Prologue: Where it all Began
Gather around, one and all, and let me tell you the tale of a magical land far away, where your biggest dreams and worst nightmares thrived together. I am the Narrator of All, and I will be the one to guide you through this story of tragedy, comedy and most importantly, girl on girl action I mean, love.
Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there was once a beautiful yet tyrannical and arrogant princess. She lorded herself above all others and made their life generally miserable. She thought herself to be the most lovely in the land, and no one dared to disagree.
She was cruel and unjust, even the nobles who thrived in other rules, trembled in her wake. Occasionally, she held court, but anyone with anything other than praise for the princess were always turned down. Even her own staff began to hate her, yet unable to do anything to save themselves or the country.
One day, a certain village’s people had enough. They went to an zebrican enchantress who lived in the Everfree forest. The enchantress called herself Zecora. She was not well-liked, but anyone who could help them would be considered a hero. They pleaded with her to do something about this tyrant. She thought for a while. She wished to be accepted. So she agreed, but on certain conditions.
One, she said, is that I will only resort to magic if she is truly beyond hope. The townsfolk reluctantly agreed. They had no other choice after all. Two, she continued, if I must use magic to deal with her, then I will not kill her. Monster or not no one deserved that. The villagers readily agreed. Third, she finished, if I do succeed in solving this problem, then I wish to be accepted and not feared. The mob of creatures immediately agreed, seeing no reason why the enchantress should think otherwise.
Her conditions met, Zecora the enchantress set out on her quest.
Disguising herself as an ugly beggar (to throw off suspicion), she knocked on the door of the castle. The butler answered the door, surprised to see an old beggar. Zecora asked for an audience with the princess, telling the butler that she could help with the staff’s problems with the princess. The butler agreed, knowing the princess could use some advice. He too had begun to grow wary of the princess’ actions and attitude, despite his pledge of loyalty to the family. He let her in, but told the enchantress to beware of the princess’ temper.
Once within the court, the zebra told the princess to stop her tyranny. She informed the princess of the way her subjects hated her and thought of her as cruel and unjust. She told of how this would lead to the downfall of her rule. Yet the princess simply refused to listen. Speaking of how an ugly beggar could not tell her how to rule her subjects, and how she was better than them all. She was after all the princess.
Finally, tired that the princess was so very shallow, selfish and arrogant enough to turn someone down for there looks, the enchantress released the illusion. Zecora granted the princess the chance to redeem herself. To apologise for her misdeeds. So, when the princess saw that it was the feared spell-caster, she paled in fear. An apology danced on her lips, yet her stubborn pride did not allow her to apologise.
Zecora finally realised the princess was beyond her ability. She placed a curse on the princess that would turn her into a hideous demon, and keep her immortal, until she found her one true love and learned her lesson. The one who she would love and be loved in return, and managed to look past her demonic looks would be the one who would free her frozen age and allow her to return her normal form and continue to live. This creature, she said, will be able to cure you, help you better yourself and will help you atone for your misdeeds. But, she warned, is this being does not love you, then you will perish.
She granted the princess a magical mirror that would show her everything she desired, except the future and her true love. This would help the princess keep an eye on the changes to come in the centuries she would now be alive. She also transformed the servants and staff into cutlery and furniture-while also granting them immortality, and to keep the princess company and to help her should her true love ever arrive. Zecora, after all, was not heartless.
Ashamed of her now beastly looks, the princess locked herself into her castle while wondering how any pony or creature could love her in this form. The enchantress cast a spell on the Everfree to grow around the castle so that none would ever find it and returned to the village. She was hailed as a hero and had a feast held in her honour.
Two new royal families were elected, in a bid to keep the previous tyranny from repeating. Using unique and rare ingredients and spells that can never be replicated, Zecora gave the families the power to move the celestial bodies. The Solaris took power over the sun while the Nightshade family the moon. Each time the ruler died, an heir would be born with the power to move these bodies. The creatures and ponies agreed, an era of peace was born.
As the story became a legend, the castle became forgotten. The alicorn families covered up any remnants of this time so that no one would go looking for the castle. Ponyville (the village that had went to Zecora) though, insisted that the princess was real, if the statue of the zebra was any indication. Despite all this, the castle remained untouched as dangerous creatures such as Timberwolves and Manticores moved in.
No one dared go near such a dangerous forest as the Everfree.
That is until, Twilight Sparkle, daughter of Night Light Nightshade III and Twilight Velvet Solaris, 4th in line for the throne and an alicorn, decided to poke her muzzle where it didn’t belong.
