Author's Note

so just a heads up, this is my first story, i'd enjoy criticism and comments but go easy on me please, plus this hasnt had much editing done to it besides me reading over it 3 times

a normal day

Spike sat up from his bed and yawned, knowing it would be the start to another normal day, but he couldn't be more wrong. Spike walked out of his room of the castle, since he was now 18 he couldn't share a room with Twilight. He was about to knock on Twilight's door to wake her from her slumber but stopped when he smelt the delicious aroma of gems, coming from the kitchen.

“Is Twilight cooking with gems?” the dragon asked himself. “I better go find out.” and with that he walked down the hall and into the kitchen only to be shocked to see that twilight had made jewel pancakes, and she rarely did that.

“What's the occasion?” he asked in his stern more teenage like voice, causing the purple unicorn to jump a little, then turn to see him.

“Oh, spike you gave me a scare.” twilight said calming down. “ and what do you mean ‘what's the occasion’ I can't cook my little dragon some breakfast?” she asked with a smile.

“Well I mean, you almost never cook breakfast anymore, i just thought something special was going on.” spike confessed scratching the back of his head.

“ well yeah, we usually just go out to eat but i woke up early today and thought that i’d surprise my little dragon” she said warmly as she laid plates of various breakfast foods on the table and then took a seat. “ now stop standing around and come eat.”

Spike gave her a small smile as he went to sit at the table and looked over all the food. There were eggs, pancakes, and cups filled to the brim with orange juice, and spike’s pancakes had jewels baked into them while twilight’s were just normal. They ate like normal, sometimes glancing at each other giving one another a smile, until they were finished with their breakfast.

“So” spike started as he wiped his mouth. “Where's Starlights’ breakfast?”

“Oh no...i forgot starlight” twilight said as she frantically raced back to the kitchen in an attempt to cook a little more before Starlight woke up. With all the quick moving around and look of worry on her face, spike giggled a little as he stood up to help her. A normal day, that's what they had...for now.

“Um, i'm very grateful that you cooked twilight but i had plans to go out on the town with Trixie...sorry” Starlight had politely declined Twilight’s offer for breakfast as she was heading out the door, which made spike all the more happy.

“More for me i guess” the dragon spoke briefly as he shoved her pancakes down his throat.

“Spike, if you eat too much you're going to get a stomach ache” the alicorn complained, as she used her magic to put the dishes in the sink.

“I'm not a kid anymore Twilight, I know how to ta-ta-” spike could no longer continue as he made a throwing up like motion but nothing left his lips.

“Ha told you” Twilight said coming closer with a bucket. “Here use this”

Spike bent over and coughed up something Twilight assumed was barf but there wasn't any sound of liquid hitting the bucket, just a small ‘thunk’ which intrigued her to look closer when spike had moved his head, only to reveal a scroll, this surprised twilight only because the princess never sent scrolls anymore, for spikes body got too large, almost twice the size of a normal stallion, and the scrolls would usually get caught in his long neck and he’d cough all day until he spit it out.

Spike coughed a little. “I hope it was worth my pain and suffering”

“ hush spike, i'm reading, and this seems very important” Twilight said for she had already started reading.

When twilight had finished reading she let out a loud gasp as she teleported away quickly, forgetting everything she usually grabs before she leaves. Spike picked up the paper that had leisurely fallen to the ground moments after twilight had left, and began reading.
“Dear princess Twilight,

I regret to inform you that there's trouble down in the crystal empire, princess Mi Amore Cadenza has fallen ill due to an unknown disease, she has had the best doctors and nurses try to help her, but nothing seems to be treating her illness, we please beg of your presence for, you might be the princess’s last hope.

Spike worried a little thinking that princess cadence might be deathly ill, but settled when he thought about Twilight going to see her, if anyone could cure something un curable, it was her.
