Nightmare Moon is basking in the glory and wonder of eternal night and ruling over Equestria with an iron grip. However, her emotional conflicts end up making her a little less than satisfied with the way her life has turned out.

Rainbow Dash is one of Nightmare Moon's best knights. Her loyalty is soon tested when she falls in love with Fluttershy, a maid in the castle. Pinkamena is Nightmare Moon's steward and soon takes an interest in Twilight Sparkle, another castle maid. Applejack is the castle's main blacksmith, trying to live a normal life with her girlfriend and wife-to-be Rarity, the castle's interior designer.

They will soon come to see how the magic of friendship can bring them all together.
