Another day finished, the final bell rang out through the halls of CHS as the students flooded out if the classrooms, gathered their things from their lockers and headed for home. After waiting for the crowd to disappear, two students walked out of the music room. Vinyl Scratch and her twin brother Treble Clef, who looked like her but with red hair with white stripes. He wore a black t-shirt with a red treble clef symbol on the chest, a pair of red jeans and black and red boots and a pair of black fingerless gloves on his hands with two red armbands on his wrists. His red sunglasses sat atop his head revealing his crimsion eyes.
The two walked in silence as they made their way towards their shared locker. Not that they didn't want to talk, they did, but they couldn't. Vinyl was born mute, and Treble was, for some reason, stuck to two words at a time. All the doctors could figure out was some sort of fault when their brains were developing, but they were never given a solid explanation.
As they closed the locker after retrieving their books, Vinyl felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. Taking it out she read the message from her roommate, Octavia. As she read she sighed and motioned to her brother that she had to go. Treble just smiled and waved his had, gesturing to her that it was alright. She kissed his cheek before running out the front doors. Treble just chuckled as he knew what was going on, he figured out what kind of relationship her and her roommate had early on, but Vinyl still tried to be subtle about it. He wasn't fooled.
As he himself was about to walk out of the building, he spotted something out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head slightly to the right and saw none other than Adagio Dazzle standing there with her usual sly grin. "Terrific..." He muttered under his breath, he knew what was about to happen, every time she had that look on her face, he knew what she was going to do. As he took a few steps towards the front doors to try and avoid confrontation, he found himself blocked by her arm. Adagio then slipped in front of the young man and loved him in the eye with her alluring eyes.
"Hello there Treby, driving home alone today?" Adagio asked as she looked him up and down, sliding a finger up his exposed arm.
Treble just rolled his eyes and nodded slowly.
Adagio smirked and stepped closer, placing her chest just under his and looked up with a seductive smirk. "Well, I'm not doing anything, how about I keep you company?"
"Why not just leave him alone for once?" The two of them turned and saw Sunset Shimmer standing there with her arms folded.
Adagio glared and stepped back, giving Treble his space while turning towards the newcomer. "Why should I? He's not saying no. Besides, what's it to you anyway, didn't you two break up?"
Treble and Sunset shared a glance before Sunset turned back to the siren. "We did, but we're still friends, so I want to save him the trouble of trying to give you a reason to stop when he can't speak." She answered in a matter of fact tone, receiving a thumbs up from Treble who got a friendly wink in response.
Adagio turned her attention back to Treble and cleared her throat. "Well...since it appears I am not wanted here, I will be on my way." As she walked past Treble she brushed her hand over his cheek before walking off down a hall.
"Thanks Sunset." Treble thanked with a small smile.
"Anytime big guy." Sunset pat his shoulder before waking out of the building. When Treble was about to follow her out, he looked down the hall to see Adagio walking slowly. No subtle sway of her hips, no strut, no energy. It was as if all her motivation had just drained away. Curious, Treble began to follow her. He didn't understand, normally when he rejected Adagio she'd smirk, give one last flirty remark and be on her way with the same level of confidence, but yet she seemed so void of that confidence, that power.
When she turned a corner, Treble stopped just at the edge of the wall and peered over. Adagio just stopped and sighed before folding her arms and leaning against a locker. Treble began to feel a small amount of concern, wanting to ask what was wrong if he could, but he was smart enough to put two and two together.
He just stood there for a little while longer, watching Adagio rub up and down her arm slowly while hanging her head low, hiding her face. He sighed as he stepped out and cleared his throat, causing her to jump slightly from the sudden appearance. "Woah! Don't sneak up on people like that, that's my job." She tried to quickly craft a mask over her true self with a forced, awkward joke that was followed by silence and no reaction from the silent boy in front of her.
Treble just raised a brow before shaking his head and taking in a more concerned expression. "What's wrong?" He asked softly, she wasn't acting aggressively or forcing herself on him, so there was no need to be hostile or dismissive towards her.
Adagio looked him in the eye for a moment in silence before turning away. "I'm fine, just tired."
Treble gave her a look that said "I don't believe you" and folding his arms while tapping his foot impatiently.
Adagio sighed and rubbed her arm nervously. "I guess since Sunset and those others defeated us at the Battle of the Bands, I've been-" She was cut off as Treble flicked her nose. "Hey! What was that for!?"
"Truth, now." Treble demanded in an authoritative tone, making sure to clearly show he wasn't going to put up with her trying to shift the conversation.
Sighing again Adagio turned away and folded her arms while closing her eyes. "Why can't I just win with you?"
Trebles stern expression turned to one of confusion.
"I can have any guy I want, any that I choose is easily won over or seduced, all except you." She opened her eyes and turned to him with a slight glare. "I have never been rejected by anyone as much as I have you. Even at the Battle of the Bands, you weren't under our control, I couldn't get you under my spell." Her features softened and she slowly looked down. "When I realised I couldn't win you over with my magic, I took it as a challenge. At first it was just for sport, but over time..."
Treble took a moment to process this, he now knew why she started targeting him specifically, but at the same time there was more to this. So, before he came to any conclusions he'd let her finish.
"I guess after awhile of trying to earn your attention, I began to crave it. I started learning about you, seeing how you act and how you go about your days, and I think it became less of a challenge and more of a personal goal to get your attention any way I could." Adagio brushed a few strands of hair back into place before placing a hand of Trebles chest and looking up. "So I flirted, schemed, lied, anything that I could come up with to make you mine. But...I've obviously failed."
She sighed softly as she took her hand off his chest and placed it on her own.
"I just wanted someone who didn't just want to be with me because of a spell or my body...and you're the only male I've met that's resisted both. The one guy I couldn't have..."
Treble rubbed the back of his neck while looking away, feeling slightly ashamed of the times he had been rude to her when all she wanted was genuine affection. A part of him still thought this was a trick or another one of her schemes, and he'd keep that part of him there for awhile in case it was just an illusion.
"I don't really expect you to believe me, especially after all I've done. But all those things were out of jealousy, when Sunset got to you first, I was just so angry and...I lost a bit of self control. Heck, I should be behind bars for the things I've done, I don't know why I haven't been arrested yet."
Treble knew why, the law enforcement in Canterlot wasn't the greatest police department in the world, and any magical mishaps were always dealt with by the students. Unsure of what to do, he just stood there, processing what he had just learned and trying to come up with something, he wasn't sure what he was trying to come up with, but he felt like he needed to do something.
Adagio shook herself and took on her usual persona, but with a more dismissive stone. "It doesn't matter, it's obvious you don't want me, il guess I was just tricking myself into liking you and feeling like I need you, now I just realise it and can't go further with this facade. I'll try my best to stay out of your way. Goodbye."
As she was about to walk past him he grabbed her arm and turned her around so her attention was on him again. He suddenly put a hand to the side of her face and quickly planted a soft kiss on her forehead. He pulled away and Adagio just looked at him slightly shocked. Treble just shrugged and patted her head before walking off.
Adagio shook herself and placed a hand on her forehead as she watched Treble turn the corner and disappear. Her lips curled into a smile. Not a grin, not a forced some and not one of ill intent. Just a small, genuine smile. "Guess that was the right way to reach him."
Treble just walked out the front door and pulled out his car keys, ready to go back to his home and lie down. His thought went back to Adagio and what he had just done. He wasn't exactly looking for a relationship at that moment in time, but he wouldn't be against having one. He just hoped that what he did showed her the right way to go. Maybe, just maybe, if she played her cards right and made the right choices, he'd consider it.
