Refusing To Be Generous
Trying To Get In
Load Full StoryOne Day Rarity was humming a tune to herself while she sowed a dress together. It was a huge blizzard outside and snow and ice covered everything so that's why she was inside for the day. She was drinking hot tea while she sowed not worrying about anything.
She hoped that the weather will calm down soon so that she could go outside. Soon she got a little bit cold so she wrapped a blanket around herself and continued to sip her tea as she was glad she wouldn't have to read any mail until the storm goes away which wouldn't be for a while yet.
She took another sip of tea as she continued to sow as she was glad that she had stuff to do while a storm raged on outside which had canceled all her meetings she had for today forgetting that there would be a storm today. She took another sip of tea slowly so she didn't spill it and burn herself.
As the tea soothed her cold body she heard a knock on her door. She shrugged as she thought nothing of it as the wind was probably making a tree hit against Carousal Boutique. She then waited to see if she heard another loud knock but she didn't. She did start hearing a muffled voice though. She looked around her place knowing that the only two ponies that were there were her and Sweetie Belle. She heard a muffled yell and it sounded like somepony was calling for her.
As she listened the voice became frantic. Rarity became annoyed knowing that she would have to open her door to find out who this was. She got up and looked out her window and saw a figure standing there shivering. The pony probably had nowhere else to go so she went to her place.
Rarity knew she should open the door for whoever was out there due to her being the bearer of the Element of Generosity and that she would help anypony in need so she decided to open the door and help them. As she opened the door a pony in a black coat stood there with a hood covering there face.
Rarity stood back as the pony took off her hood. Rarities eyes grew as Applejack showed her face. Rarity was quiet for a long moment.
"Can I come in?!" Applejack asked in desperation. Rarity sighed and spoke
"Why are you here?" Rarity asked. Applejack took her coat off and spoke raising a brow.
"Um because it's snowing?" Applejack responded in obviousness. Rarity sighed and spoke.
"You can't stay at my place you need to leave." Rarity said in annoyance. Applejack looked at her in shock.
"Why not? It's a blizzard where else am I going to stay?!" Applejack said upset at what she was hearing.
"I don't care where you stay as long as you don't stay with me!" Rarity said rudely. Applejack couldn't believe her ears as this was unlike Rarity.
"But your my friend! You know me!" Applejack exclaimed in sadness. Rarity snorted.
"And you have other friends as well. Go to them!" Rarity said in annoyance.
"B-but t I won't be able to make it even if I tried. You were the closest!" Applejack exclaimed even more upset. She started to tear up as she could not believe how her friend was acting.
"I don't care! Now leave!" Rarity yelled. Applejack started to stutter and sob in utter sadness and disbelief as it Rarity did not sound like herself.
"But.....you... You're the element of generosity!! That is so unlike you! Why do you want me to go?! I'm your best friend and your the most generous pony I know!?" Applejack sobbed as she couldn't believe that Rarity didn't feel generous.
"I don't care! Leave!" Rarity yelled. Applejack cried silently as she faced the prospect of staying outside Applejack cried as she stared in disbelief. Her friend was generous enough to help other ponies but was unwilling to help her and the thought made her depressed.
Applejack was terrified about going back out there. Tears streamed down Applejacks face as her friend might make her leave.
"I can't believe how your acting towards m-me Your the element of generosity! Did I d-do something bad t-to you so you can't let me in? Tell me and I'll apologize!!!" Applejack pleaded desperately. Rarity narrowed her eyes.
"No. You can't. What's your reason anyway!?" Rarity yelled.
"Because I'm s-scared and I'm hungry and I feel like I'll freeze out here! You have to listen to me!! I'm your friend for Celestias sake! You are generous to anypony else but with me you won't be?! That's disgusting!!" Applejack pleaded and ranted while sobbing.
Rarity thought over on what Applejack said trying to decide. She knew what Applejack said was right. She helped lots of ponies. If she didn't help Applejack then she was unworthy of her element. On the other hand she had the feeling of telling Applejack to go away and find somepony else to help her. This was her chance to act on her element or not act.
If she didn't let Applejack stay then Applejack would certainly freeze to death. Rarity looked Applejack over and knew that Applejack would waste her winter supplies. But as she looked her over she also knew that Applejack was scared about the prospect of She didn't know on how to go about it.
She knew that if she didn't help then Applejack would be devastated at Rarity not being generous and possibly freeze? Applejack shook as she was scared Applejack spoke wanting Rarity to be generous towards her
"Please b-be generous t-to m-me as you are t-to other ponies." Applejack said as it was as she was sobbing from the prospect of not being allowed into Rarities home.
Rarity thought about what Applejack had just said as Applejack shivered. Those words made her think very hard about what to do. Applejack had a good point. Rarity struggled with her options. If Rarity refused then Applejack would surely let her friends know and Celestia would probably strip her of her element if she survived. Rarity knew that she wouldn't seem nice or generous if she refused to let Applejack stay. But Rarity didn't seem like she had to.
"Why should I?! Why are you asking me? You hate me!" Rarity snarled in anger. Applejack looked at Rarity in disbelief.
"I d-don't h-hate you! I l-love you!" Applejack cried in honesty as she continued to sob as she couldent believe Rarity would ask something like that.
"Why should I believe you?!" Rarity snarled in anger. In one last desperate attempt Applejack spoke.
"B-because I-I'm the element o-of h-honesty!" Applejack said determined to persuade Rarity stuttering with tears as she hoped that this truth would make Rarity allow her to stay in.
Rarity thought about what Applejack said and thought of Applejacks element. Applejack never lied. Applejack continued to speak.
"And your the element of generosity! You help anypony in need so help me the element of honesty!" Applejack spoke desperately. Rarity tried to decide on what to do.
"Please help m-me! You h-have to decide to h-help me o-or not! If you d-don't do help then that would t-tarnish our f-f-friendship and your element! You have t-to decide between r-right and w-w-wrong!" Applejack sobbed desperately.
Rarity thought long and hard about her options. She knew that leaving Applejack out there would be horrible. She knew what was right and wrong and now she had to decide on what she would do. She saw Applejack waiting in fear as she was scared of freezing outside. Rarity thought long and hard on what she should do. Should she show Applejack true generosity. Applejack was always honest. Was she truly being honest now?
"I-if you were i-in the same position I-I would a-allow y-you to t-t-take shelter!" Applejack spoke. Rarity heard true sincerity in Applejacks voice. Rarity knew that if she waited even longer Applejack would freeze. Applejacks whole body was shivering profusely now.
"I-I'm your friend Rarity! D-do for me a-as you would do for anypony else!" Applejack said shivering. Applejack felt like she couldn't even move anymore. Rarity knew she needed to decide as she hadn't decided yet and If she did refuse to let Applejack come in then Applejack would need somewhere else to go. She could refuse to let her in and then point her in the direction to a shelter from the storm.
Finally after thinking all of this over she looked around her place and grabbed instructions to nearby snow shelters. She looked at Applejack one more time set the paper down. She thought of the prospect of Applejack freezing to death along the way of walking to a shelter as Applejack has already been out for quiet a while now but she also wanted to keep her place clean and she knew that Applejack was always dirty.
Rarity wanted to make sure Applejack didn't hate her and liked being her friend as she wanted to clarify that a second time. Rarity continued to shake.
"Do you really love me?" Rarity asked.
"Y-yes I-I do! I'm b-being honest! I do n-not hate you! You w-wouldn't keep me out h-here if you loved me to! Do you h-hate me!?" Applejack asked shivering.
"Of coarse I don't! I was just making sure you didn't hate me!!" Rarity said. Applejack shivered shaking her head
"You should know I d-don't h-hate you!!! I love you!! Why w-would you d-doubt that!?" Applejack shivered. Rarity knew what Applejack was getting at. Rarity stepped aside and urged Applejack to come in. Applejack rushed to get in. Once Applejack was in Rarity closed the door and spoke.
"I'm sorry kept you out there Applejack it wasn't right! Please don't tell my friends what I did and if you need to yell at me then yell! What I did was not right!" She said starting to cry. Rarity looked down as she got ready to receive hate and yelling but none came. Applejack walked up and hugged Rarity.
"I'm upset at all the stuff you accused me of but I'm not mad at you. I can't believe you acted like that but I'm going to forgive you." Applejack spoke getting warmed up. Rarity was truly shocked at what she heard. Applejack was showing her kindness even though Rarity didn't show her generosity.
"I'm a failure as the element of generosity! I wasn't generous enough to let you in!!" Rarity said sobbing. Applejack spoke as she continued to hug her.
"You made a mistake. Nopony is perfect! I'm upset that you didn't believe me but you know what? You finally showed your generosity and let me in while asking for forgiveness. You still deserve that element." Applejack spoke softly. Rarity smiled.
"Thank you so much Applejack! I promise I will never do that again!" Rarity said Applejack nodded. Rarity sat Applejack down and gave her warm blankets to warm her up. Her and Rarity sat by each other as Applejack snuggled into the covers as she was still shivering.
Rarity rubbed Applejacks back as Applejack warmed up. After half an hour Applejack finally stopped feeling cold. They both hugged and broke away. Rarity wrote a letter to the princess.
"I learned that I should never be doubtful of a true sincere friend and should never think the worst of them." Rarity wrote. She then put "From Rarity" on it and addressed it to the Golden Oaks Library for it to be mailed to Twilights house so that it can be sent to Celestia by Spike.
After a day the storm ended and she put the letter into the mailbox. It was sent to Twilights and Spike got it and saw that it was from Rarity addressed to Celestia. She told Twilight about it and Twilight smiled and Spike sent it to Celestia. Celestia read it and nodded smiling thinking that it was a very good lesson.
