prologue
It had been hours since the 6 ponies left into the Everfree forest. A large group of ponies waited anxiously outside the forest for their return. Among that group stood Aero Cross. He had lived in ponyville for almost a year now and nothing like this had ever happened before. The annual Summer Sun Solstice festival had been held today, and festival goers from all across the world traveled to the small village to watch the Goddess of the sun raise the sun and lower the moon.
The announcement of the goddesses presence was short lived as an evil mare, Nightmare Moon, told the crowd that she was the new god, and that the sun was never to be seen again. 6 ponies, all of a different pallet, left into the Everfree to try and defeat the malicious mare, but their return was yet to come. As time continued on, Aero, along with the rest of the crowd, started to lose hope.
The blank moon shown, giving light to the world down below and giving just enough light to see a dark shadowy figure emerge from the forest. The crowd started to grow loud with discussion on why the figure was. It was too big to be one of the 6 mares that had entered hours before. "Citizens!" A deep womanly voice announced. "This is what happens when you defy me!" The figures horn began to glow as an item began to raise off the ground, and into the light of the moon.
The crowd gasped, some vomiting, as the decapitated head of a purple unicorn gleamed in the light. Shouts erupted from the crowd, Aero stared at the head, his eyes not believing what he was seeing. A large scale crime, nonetheless a murder, had never happened in over 700 years. The shadow mare spoke again,"I am your new Queen. You will obey my rules and my commands, my sister, Celestia, is dead. Aero's eyes were wet and diluted, and his legs felt weak and trembled.
A stallion pushed through the crown yelling. "You wouldn't do that! Celestia is a god! She can't die!" He yelled.
Oh?" Nightmare Moon spoke quietly. She raised the stallion into the air with her magic, and the stallion started kicking at the air, desperately trying to escape. "It may be so, that no ordinary pony can kill a her," her voice slowly trailed off. "But, what about another god!" She yelled as the stallions neck twisted and contorted with loud screams and cracks. The stallion fell silent as his body was dropped, and he landed on the ground in a pile of blood and flesh.
The mare laughed as the crowd turned into a cluster of ponies running around and screaming. She started to pick up random ponies out of the crowd, and did the same to them as she did to the stallion before. Aero ran in the direction of where he knew his home was. He was only 15 and he'd already seen hell.
He ran up to his house and ran inside, closing the door behind him. He hid in the corner of his loft, waiting for the rest of his family to run into the house and comfort him and say everything was fine. He waited for himself to just wake up and have it all just be some fucked up dream he was living through. He bit at his leg, trying to wake himself up...but to no use. He waited for his family to arrive. They never did.
