This morning was like any other school morning. Sunset Shimmer was sitting with her friends, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, and Pinkie Pie, in the school cafeteria, when suddenly...

"Attention students, please report to the gym at once. We have some exciting news." A female voice was heard over the speaker. It was Principal Celestia's voice speaking into the microphone from her office.

Inside the gym, a lot of talking regarding the news could be heard coming from the bleachers.

"What do you guys think this 'exciting news' Principal Celestia wants to tell us is?" Sunset asked.

"Ah' don't know,but it must be important," Applejack replied.

Before anyone could ask anymore questions, Principal Celestia and Vice principal Luna walked onto the stage with smiles on their faces.

"Thank you all for coming. I'm sure you're all very curious what this about," Celestia said. The students all murmured in acknowledgement. Celestia continued, "As a matter of fact, the letter Vice Principal Luna is currently holding, is an invitation to a Battle of the Bands event from a new school located on the outskirts of the city. Our school was invited to attend and compete in the event at the school, but since it is a bit small I have agreed to hold the finals here at CHS," she added.

Many cheers were heard in the bleachers, Sunset and her friends cheering along with everyone else.

"But we were not the only school to be invited to this grand event,” interjected Vice Principal Luna, “Crystal Prep Academy was invited as well."

The cheers quickly died down, and some students even frowned.

"Does that mean we will not only be against the new school, but Crystal Prep too?" Twilight was shocked.

"Oh yeah! I can't wait to beat Crystal Prep in the competition!" Rainbow Dash said excitedly.

"The principals and vice principals of the three schools will be having a meeting regarding the event this afternoon. I do hope everyone will give it their all in the competition and make CHS proud," Celestia finished. The students clapped and cheered.

"Ohh, I can't wait to beat Crystal prep!" Rainbow Dash was excited. “It's gonna be so great!”

"Don't forget Dashie, we have two schools to beat. It's not just Crystal prep this time around," Rarity reminded Rainbow Dash.

"But the question is, just how talented in music is this new school?" wondered Sunset.

"She's right Rainbow, we don't know even one thing about this new school. Not even their name! And they just invited CHS and Crystal prep to compete in this event,” Twilight added.

"Who cares? We're the Rainbooms! We never give up in these types of situations,” exclaimed Rainbow Dash, then after a quick glance at Sunset, “Especially if it's a Battle of the Bands!"

"I agree with Dashie," Fluttershy said softly.

"Me too," Applejack added.

"Me three!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed.

They then parted ways to their separate classes.

It was just like any other day at Crystal Prep. In the Cafeteria, Lemon Zest, Indigo Zap, Sugarcoat, Sunny Flare, and Soursweet were sitting beside each other at their table, when suddenly...

"Attention students, please report to the gym immediately," Dean Cadence’s voice echoed through the speakers.

Everyone went inside the gym and sat in the bleachers. Dean Cadance and Principal Cinch walked up onto the stage.

"Now,I know you are all wondering what this is all about," Principal Cinch said. "We have been invited to a musical event, a Battle of the Bands of sorts. Now, I will be honest with you, I have had my concerns about all of this, until I saw that Canterlot high has been invited as well. I know our school doesn't primarily focus on music, but I didn't want CHS to think that we would back down easily, and as a bonus I think we could break that tie we have from the last Friendship Games.” She continued, "Myself, Dean Cadance and the other principals and vice principals are having a meeting about this event later today. So, to conclude this announcement, I sincerely hope you give it your all to win against Canterlot High and that new school.” she added nodding to Dean Cadence.

"You may now all go to your next class." Dean Cadance said.

"Yes! We're going to beat CHS!" Indigo Zap exclaimed.

"Not only CHS, but we also have to beat that new school," Sugarcoat said.

"And?" Indigo Zap asked.

"First of all, we don't know who they are, second, we don't know how talented they are with music," Lemon Zest replied. Everyone nodded in agreement.

"We're the Shadowbolts, we never give up," Sunny Flare said.

"Still, of those in our group, Lemon Zest is the only one who really knows music more than the rest of us," Sugarcoat exclaimed.

“True” everyone murmured.
After their conversation, they left to go to their next class.

"We should go." a female voice said.

"Oh come now Ember, we have all day," a male voice replied.

"But we don't have all afternoon Discord," Ember said.

"That's 'Principal Discord' to you." Discord replied. A wide grin was spread across his face. Ember rolled her eyes.

"Come on, or you're gonna be late to the meeting,” Ember said.

"Hmmph, you're no fun,” Discord pouted.
