Twilight's Destiny
Twilight had everything a pony could dream of. She was smart, a celebrity who lived in a brand new castle after the defeat of Tirek and was one of the six Elements of Harmony to boot. For awhile she thought that life would be smooth sailing and that nothing could bring her down as long as she had her friends.
The higher the pedestal the harder you fall.
Twilight thought to herself.
It had been a hundred years since her friends had died. She thought everything would be alright and that the high point of her life would never end as long as she had her friends. She remembered back to one of the reasons she was accepted into the Canterlot's School of Magic was because of her knowledge of abstract math and magical theory aside from the multitude of other already mastered subjects required.
Twilight Sparkle sat in her study thinking and writing in her journal, it had become her favorite pastime in the last two decades to write her feelings on paper. It gave her a sense that she was writing to friends no longer with her. She herself was now in relative isolation from the world now that Spike had grown up and left to find his origins of where he came from before Twilight managed to hatch him during the entry test. She found her self when her schedule was empty wandering the many passages of a now empty castle. Though it wasn't entirely devoid of life as she had it in the past, when everyone was welcome since it still acted as a library back then aside from the seat of power of the Elements of Harmony, It was now patrolled by guards and a plethora of servants and maids that made sure the castle itself ran and stayed in good condition even though the amount of staff seemed to Twilight at first to be ridiculous she eventually came to know it as a sort of constant background noise that very rarely disturbed her. Ponyville itself had also changed the last hundred years. From the small town Twilight once knew was a sprawling metropolis that dominated the once green woodland of ponds and rivers farmland. Aside from her castile many Tall buildings now dominated the skyline, including a massive corporate H.Q. building titled "AppleJack Apples Inc." This was still run by Applebloom at the ripe age of ninety as she was one of the few faces Twilight could recognize at a glance.
But as Ponyville grew, her friends begin to die. One by one she watched them grow old and perish like a flame with out oxygen. The last of her friends funerals she attended was Pinke Pie. Her ceremony was small and quiet in sharp contrast to the pony she was but, in a way the faces of Pinkie's dozens of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren told Twilight that Pinkie's life was one well lived. But was being immortal and watching those around her dying was something that led her down to where she was now. This was a debate she had with herself and the other three princesses for awhile but eventually was dropped due to the conversation going in circles. But now she came to the only reasonable conclusion that she had come to for the last few days. If she couldn't live with them in the real world. She could live with them in the afterlife, since her life now had become a dull and tedious task. The constant stress from her mentor and Applebloom's constant complaints had finally driven her to do what she was about to do. If only they knew what she was going through and the pain that she felt inside her they would then understand why and besides how were they ever capable of knowing the grief and sorrow which now consumed her every waking thought.
Twilight got up from her desk and began with her magic, to tie a noose from the chandelier that was given to her as a gift from Rarity 50 years previous before she was raped and beaten to death. It arrived a week after her death and she had asked some of her guards to install it in her study. As she finished her noose she took one last look around her study which in recent times had become shrine to her long dead friends. A picture of Rainbow Dash sat on her desk in full Wonder Bolt costume with a big grin on her face. An older Applejack teaching Applebloom how to buck since she herself had grown too old to do it. Fluttershy on her chair in front of her cottage petting a robin with her old wrinkly hooves, her face still had the same gentle grin that had brought Twilight up from some of the worst moments of her life. Finally a old black and white style sill shot of she and her friends and the CMC when they were kids and all of the people she helped in one picture taken by Flash Photo the day before Tireks return. Then a picture of herself stunned upon her arrival in Ponyville for the first time which had showed her in complete shock aside from the pink pony behind her doing a cartwheel behind her and the towns people welcoming her into a place she would never once leave until today.
Tears began to build in her eyes as she gracefully glided up to the noose tied to the bottom of the chandelier positioning her neck above the noose.
"Don't worry everypony I will see you soon, and then we can do all the fun things we did when you were still alive, with me."
Twilight took one last look before commanding her wings to stop moving allowing herself to fall on to the noose.
Twilight landed on the rope with a sickening snap.
The last thing Twilight could hear before she died was the sound of flapping wings and the happy giggles of Pinkie Pie and all of her friends.
