A Dragon's Heart

A long time ago, before the fight against pony races ended, and way before their journey for new land was made. Far away, within the deep parts of the named Badlands, dragons were once as kind and caring as the ponies you know today. There were many dragons of height, color, and forms. All of them lived peacefully under one ruler that was the most unique dragon on the land. They were called the Stone Dragons, but not by their smooth black scales or their yellow sclera. But the most noticeable feature: their gem. Each gem was unique and special. It incased their soul and everything the hold dear in their heart. And just like every gem, all the dragons were pure. Their leader, Alexandrite, was the strongest and most beautiful dragon, she ruling the kingdom of the dragons.

Alexandrite was, what most dragons would say, the greatest ruler in all the land. She was kind to the little ones, took care of the elderly, and made sure that everything was right and equal under her rule. She used to have a best friend, his name was Copper. He was a normal bronze dragon. He wasn't the strongest, but he was smart. He saw how every dragon loved her, and thought that he was only friends with her cause of her stature. He also saw how some dragons were jealous of both him and Alexandrite. No one knew if this was by peer pressure, jealousy, or inner greed, but she wanted what Alexandrite had. He wanted to be noticed, to be loved, and for dragons to do whatever he told without question.

So, he gathered all the dragons who were against Alexandrite rule, and stormed her cave without warning. Luckily, she wasn't there, but her offsprings were sound asleep in the cave. To show no sign of mercy, they took the lives of all her dragon cubs, and stole the gems that had their souls and love inside.

They made sure that they didn't leave a single trace, and buried the dragon gems within their mountains of gold and jewelry they hoard. But that wasn't enough, and Alexandrite figured out who took the lives of her children. Alexandrite gave no warning as she stormed into the caves of those who took her offsprings' gems, and took their lives as punishment. Copper was the only one still alive, but he only made it look as if Alexandrite was greedy over power, and those who opposed would be killed. When all the dragons of the kingdom shunned and rejected her, she was banned from the kingdom forever, and so were the Stone Dragons. They were never seen again, and no dragon was in control of anyone for almost a thousand years.

Somewhere between those lines, instead of a king or a queen, they decided to crown a Lord of the Dragons, using the Goblet of Fire, a staff made by the eldest dragon, it rumored that the old and wise dragon's soul was within the red stone. Some dragons saying that the one who made the staff was a Stone Dragon. Though, none of this was proven true. Years have gone by, and Stone Dragons were thought to have been extinct, the Badlands being rather dangerous if wandered into unknown territory.

That is... until one faithful day.
