The first batch of donuts
Donut Sentinel didn't mind another day of patrol on the walls of Canterlot Castle. The view was good, and had a belly full of his donuts. Some of his friends sometimes needed them to help them get through their shifts. It didn't seem that way today, though. Everypony he saw looked alert.
He saw a pegasus land on the wall and trot up to him. “Donut, do you have any of your namesake on you?” he asked. “Brasstrail, did you forget to eat breakfast again?” Donut asked. The pegasus nodded. Donut looked at him with mock anger. That was the fourth time this week alone. Both stallions smiled and chuckled at each other. “You're in luck, I have one left.” said Donut. He reached into a hidden compartment in his armor and pulled out a donut. Brasstrail looked at it almost like he had been given a gift from Princess Celestia herself.
Brasstrail devoured it quickly, then patted his stomach. “Delicious, as always. If you aren't already, you should start getting paid for this.” he said. “You aren't the first to tell me that.” said Donut. Another Earth Pony, Brass Finish, had told him the same thing. It seemed that more and more ponies in the Royal Guard were being informed of how good his donuts were, even though he wasn't actually trying to spread the message. First, it was just Brasstrail. But Donut was noticing that Brasstrail wasn't the only pony asking for donuts. Most of his friends were, and he unwittingly picked up a rumor that even the high-ranking officers were catching wind of it. 'Maybe I can get a promotion.' he had thought.
