Chapter One: Shattered Diamond
Diamond Tiara glanced around the big hall. It was quiet. The only sound that that heard was the shuffling of papers at the teacher's front desk, and the sound of pencils swiftly moving on papers. Diamond looked down at her test paper. She wasn't afraid of the test. She was afraid of her. Diamond felt a paper be thrown at her. She looked to the right of her to see a crumpled paper on the floor. She bit her bottom lip as her eyes climbed up the snowy-blue unicorn filly's body until she reached her plum-purple eyes. Diamond quickly looked away as the filly gave a look of disapproval. She felt a paper hit her back once again. Diamond sighed as she met the gaze of filly once again. She pointed to the paper on the ground, then to the filly, and then to herself. The unicorn only shook her head in frustration as she ignited her horn. A golden aurora surrounded her horn, and then the crumpled paper. It teleported in front of her, and wasn't at all crumpled. The filly gave a small smirk to herself, but her face then fell as she picked up her pencil within her golden grasp and began to write. Diamond held her breath, ready for what was next. She saw the filly slowly move the paper in her direction with her magic until it was in front of her. Trembling, she mentally read it to herself.
Why didn't you start your test yet? I need to copy! Remember? If I don't pass this, I won't go on to modeling school! I need copy off you! Those were the words written in the filly's cursive writing.
Diamond closed her eyes as she picked up her pencil with her mouth. She thought for a second and then wrote down on her paper. The filly teleported it to to her, and she looked mad. She quickly wrote on it and teleported it to Diamond.
What do you mean you didn't study? I need 100% on this test! If you don't give me a perfect score, I'll ignore you for the rest of your life! I'm warning you, listen to me!
Diamond Tiara kept reading the note over and over again. She glanced at the clock. It was a 10-minute test. She wasted 3. She sighed in defeat, and her ears folded down against her head. She felt something brush on her forehead. It was the paper. The unicorn filly had a stern look on her face. Diamond picked up her pencil, and sadly began to fill in the answers to the questions.
5 minutes past. 2 were left. Diamond looked at the filly and pointed at her paper. The filly happily smiled as she teleported the test paper to her, and began to copy the answers. Diamond glanced at the clock once again. 1 1/2 minutes left. She banged her head on the desk.
Why did you let her get to you?! What's wrong with you? Ugh! Why is everything so complicated? Diamond mentally face-hoofed herself.
Before she knew it, a loud ring! ring! ring! sound was heard from the clock.
"Time is up! Please set down your pencils. I'll be coming around to collect them." The teacher said.
The filly quickly shot up and teleported Diamond's test to her, but all Diamond Tiara could do was bang her head on the table once again. She felt a hoof touch her shoulder. She looked up to see the teacher. Diamond let out a small groan as she picked herself up and allowed the teacher to take her test. She watched as the teacher collected the snowy-blue filly's test. It was the last one. The teacher returned to her seat.
"Students, class will end in a little while. Talk among yourselves if you please." She said as she packed the papers into her bag.
The bell rang a few minutes later, startling everypony with its loud buzz! sound.
"Tiara! Whatever is wrong with you? You have been acting quite strange these past two days!" A prissy-elagent-annoying voice said.
Diamond slowly lifted her head up to reveal the unicorn filly from a while ago.
"And why have you put your head down for the past 5 minutes? Did you get any sleep?" The filly asked.
Diamond shook her head.
"No worries, Star. I'm perfectly fine."
"Oh, I don't think your fine!" Star snapped.
Diamond rolled her eyes.
Oh... Sure! Be nice to me, then be rude! Sweet Celestia, why is this filly in my life? Diamond thought.
"You didn't show me the test! You know that I want to be cool and popular! That's my entire goal!" She yelled. But she then shook her head. "Let us talk about this outside. This room is too... Big. Wouldn't want anything we say to echo in this big room." She said, and slowly walked out of the classroom, head up, making a 90-degree angle.
Diamond sighed and followed her. Before you knew it, they were outside. Diamond gulped and Star turned to her.
"You know how much modeling means to me, Tiara! I need decent grades! 65% or above in all my classes to get in! And may I asked you why do you think I've scored 80% on all my tests, and not copied everything off you?"
Diamond hung her head low, her eyes half opened. She rested her pupils on the hard white marble-tiled floor.
"Ugh, Tiara! I have told you many times that the colts don't go running for the smart ones. They go looking for the cute ones. I have the looks, but I don't want to seem smart. I don't even know how to add! I copy as much as I can off you to get a decently passing score. That way, the colts know that I at least want to pass. Even though next year, this stupid work will be gone! All I need to do it look hot." Star lifted up Diamond Tiara's chin. "Listen to me, Tiara. I'll be going to modeling school. You'll be left here in Canterlot. I need you to handle yourself. And by that, I mean you yourself a cutiemark. I mean, you look the part. All hot and pretty! But your a blank flank. Get a talent, will you? Let ponies know your special, alright? And make sure you get yours before that 'Bent Fork' friend of yours." Star said, tilting her head in the direction of a silver-coated earth pony whose mane was in a side braid, had purple eyes, and light blue glasses.
"Silver Spoon?" Diamond uneasily asked.
"Look, whatever that filly's name is! The important thing is that she's not with me. You are. I want you to be more important than her. Oh, and stop being so helpful, will you? Always wanting to be friends with everypony, stop! It doesn't help you in the social standards. Be there to look out for the Rich family. That is your legacy after all, isn't it?"
Diamond slowly nodded her head. Star proudly nodded as she walked off.
"See you tomorrow. And after that, see you never!" She sang as she levitated her violet-colored comb and brushed her silky black mane. A group and colts followed her out of the school.
Diamond Tiara hung her head again. She felt a tear escape her left eye. She quickly turned to her locker.
"Nopony likes somepony who can't handle herself..." She mumbled.
"D-Diamond? Are you alright?" A voice asked.
Diamond turned around to see Silver Spoon before her. She gratefully smiled.
"Sorry about everything, Silv. It's just been hard. You know, being around Star."
"It's alright! Come on. Let's walk home." Silver said, trotting to the door.
Diamond sighed. She knew what was coming.
Silv is just going to ask me about Star again, ugh! I swear, that filly! Ever since she came, she's ruined our friendship! Diamond thought, slamming her locker shut. She quickly marched after Sliver.
When she finally reached her, Silver began to talk right away.
"So... DT... Did you let Star copy off you, again?"
Diamond sighed.
"Yes, and I just don't know why! I mean, if I ever do anything bad to her, she could complain to her parents, and mine would be ashamed!"
Silver shook her head.
"Your parents love you, DT! They would never believe anything Star says against you!"
Diamond shook her head.
"It's complicated, Sliv. My dad and Stars dad have been best friends since they were colts. If they find out that there's tension between their daughters... Oh, Celestia! Who knows what'll happen?"
"But it's Star whose being mean. She always downcasts you. Stick up for what you know is right."
"Look, you just... Just... You just don't understand. If you were in my place, you'll know what I'm talking about. She's got a bright future ahead of her... And-and..." Diamond said, trailing off at the end.
Silver sighed.
"Alright, whatever you say..." Silver said, picking up the pace. Her house was just up ahead, and Diamond's was right next to it. "See ya..." She said, walking into the house.
"Yeah... S-See ya..!" Dimaond slowly shouted. She sighed and walked into her home.
"Miss. You've arrived back. You would like anything?" An older voice asked.
Diamond looked to see a peach-colored unicorn mare with a front right hoof and right ear the was colored cream. The mare had a short pink and blue mane, and purple eyes. She was one of the few servants in her house.
"Nothing for now, Sparkler." Diamond said.
The maid nodded, and turned to set up the couch for Diamond to sit on.
"Thanks... Hey. Do you know where mom and daddy are?" Diamond asked.
"Mr. and Mrs. Rich went out for a while, miss." The maid replied, and a piece of paper appeared in front of her. "They gave you this note."
Diamond nodded.
"Thanks... Again..."
The maid humbly nodded before returning to dusting the shelves. (I dunno wut a maid does, leave me alone! XDD)
Diamond sighed and opened the note.
Dear Diamond,
This is your father. You're mother and I have some news to share with you. We went out to shop for just that. We'll tell all you need to know when we get back home. It's exciting news! Your mother and I have had some conversations about this for a while now, and we'll be glad to tell you everything! We'll be home soon, Sweetie!

"Sparkler!" Diamond yelled three-minutes later.
"Yes, miss?"
"Did daddy tell you he and mother were coming home?"
"I'm afraid not, Diamond."
"Okay..."
"Would you like something to drink?" Another maid said.
"No thank you." Diamond said, shooing the maid off.
"The time is an hour passed if you must know." Sparkler said, passing behind the sofa.
Diamond sighed.
Diamond was getting ready to go to bed.
Mother and father haven't come... She gloomily thought.
She made her way to her bedroom. Then, she heard something outside. It was her parents carriage!
Diamond made her way downstairs. She saw Sparkler open the door for her mom and dad.
"Mother!" She said to the pink-coated mare with the her purple mane that was in a wave-curl at the ends. She had wonderful aqua eyes with dark lavender eye-shadow. She was wearing a teal shirt, and a golden chain necklace.
The earth pony's eyes fell upon her daughter, and she smiled.
"Why, hello, Diamond Tiara." She said, patting her daughter on the back.
Diamond Tiara faked a smile as he mother passed her. When her mother was gone, she hung her head low. But she then spotted her daddy trot through the door. Diamond put on a real and big smile.
"Daddy!" She exclaimed, running up to her dad to embrace him.
"Diamond Tiara! Come along! You're mother and I have some very exciting news for you!"
"Okay!" Diamond said, trailing behind her dad into the family room.
Her mother was right there, an annoyed look on her face.
"Alright. So, Diamond!" Filthy began. "You're mother and I have decided that we shall be moving!" She said.
Diamond's happy face fell flat.
"M-Moving?!" She choked, hardly above a whisper. "W-Where..?"
"To… Ugh, Ponyville…" Her mother replied.
"P-Ponyville?!" Diamond said in shock. "T-That little town below Canterlot?!"
"Yes!" Her said said, nodding his head.
"W-W-Why?!" She frantically asked.
I-I can't move! She thought. I-I won't have Silver Spoon with me, and-and… What am I meant to do, I'm a blank flank! Ponies in ponyville hardly care about that kinda stuff! I bet my whole class with have their cutiemarks when I get there! And-and I've got to start all over there!
Spoiled Rich noticed her daughter's worries.
"Ugh. I told you, Filthy. Diamond doesn't want to move." She said, rolling he eyes at her husband.
Filthy shook his head and smiled.
"Silver Spoon will be moving too."
"Wait… Really?!" Diamond happily exclaimed.
"Yes. We know that the two of you have formed such a special bond with Star, and with each other." Filthy began. "And you know that you lost Star to modeling school, so now, we offered the Spoons to move with us, and they agreed. They'll be having this very talk with Silver Spoon."
"B-But… Ponyville..?" Diamond uneasily said.
Spoiled grunted as she got up.
"Diamond, success sparks from the smallest of places. They is so much news about one thing for a lang time here in Canterlot. Ponyville, everything is new." She said. "And besides, out training partners, the … Apples, they live in on an apple orchard on the outskirts of Ponyville. It'll be good for business if you know them. Their head of the farm, Applejack, she be fully aware of knowing you. Just to warn you, be careful about what deals you make with her. She tricked me and your father into believing their granny was sick."
"Sweetie, they was because of the feud she and Big Macintosh were having." Filthy said.
"Hmph!" She said, turning her head into a 90-degreee angle, and walking out the room.
"Mom is… Just like Star…" Diamond muttered quietly.
"Sweetie?"
"Oh, yes, daddy?"
"The Apples have a little filly around your age." Filthy said.
Diamond's eyes lit up.
"Really?!"
"Yes. Apple Bloom if I'm not mistaken." Filthy looked at his daughter. "Come on, Diamond. Go get some rest. You'll be walking to school with Silver, and you'll get to say goodbye to Star."
At the mention of that snowy-blue filly's name, Diamond felt like throwing up, but she faked a smile and walked to her room.
"P-Ponyville!" She said, going to her window and looking at the small village below. "At least, I'll be with Silver." She said, putting her tiara down on the side of her desk. She then climbed into bed. "Let's see what the future holds." Diamond whispered to herself before closing her eyes, and then, falling asleep.
The next day, Diamond got ready for school, and then walked next-door. She hesitated before knocking on the door. On the other side of the door stood a white pegasus mare with a long and wavy bright rainbow-colored mane, and light blue eyes. She had a cutiemark of two rainbow lightning bolts that looked like mirrored versions of each other coming out of a white cloud.
"Good morning, Rainbowdust." Diamond said. "Is Silver Spoon here?"
The mare happily nodded. "Yeah! She's just finishing up her breakfast!" Rainbowdust moved out the way, and she pointed her hoof at the sofa. "Come on in!"
Diamond went inside and sat.
"Thank you." She said, smiling at the mare.
"Is Sparkler alright over at your place?" Rainbowdust said, bringing a plate of cookies to the filly.
"Yeah... She's doing fine."
"Well, I wish we both worked for the same person. Friendship still stays, remember that, Diamond!"
"Wh-huh?"
"I mean, you and Silver will be moving out of this stuck up city." Rainbowdust said. "Shimmer and I will be trotting outtah here. I mean, come on, cousin stays with the cousin." Rainbowdust slammed a draw closed and she grabbed a cookie from the plate she brought out."
"B-But where will you two go after that?"
"Does it matter? I mean, we've both got enough money to move in with Paralex."
"Oh, your brother, right?"
"Right and pie!"
"Huh?"
"Huh?"
"Nevermind."
"Okiedokie!"
The door to the kitchen swung open, revealing Silver Spoon.
"Oh, DT! There you are!" The filly happily said, pulling her friend into a hug. She turned to the white pegasus, and her expression flattened. "Uhm... Rainbowdust. Mom and dad are busy right now, b-but they don't need your assistance for the move. O-Our house in Ponyville will be much smaller, so... Y-You're let off early." Silver Spoon walked up the stairs, then came down with three bit bags of bits. "Th-This is your pay. Sp-Sparkler will be getting her pay soon, and be getting let off."
Rainbowdust's eyes went small, but she humbly smiled, took the bags of bits, and she walked out the house.
"I-I fell bad about letting Rainbowdust go. Sh-She was funny."
Diamond smiled.
"I miss the first few years of Sparkler being the maid. she was funny, but my mom started to get strict, and Sparkler had to act 'more proper to keep her job.'" Diamond said, her smile faltering.
Silver Spoon sighed.
"I-I don't want to leave everything behind." She said, tears coming into her eyes.
Diamond grabbed her friend's hoof. "Come on, Silv."
The two walked out the house, and couldn't believe their eyes. Sparkler Shine and Rainbowdust we stood with a dark navy blue stallion with a short-top black mane, and brown eyes. The stallion had headphones that were attached to a video games set. The three of them were laughing and talking.
Diamond smiled.
"I've never seen Sparkler so happy..."
"Rainbowdust's happy factor just got times infinity! H-Hey! Rainbowbowdust! Sparkler! I-Is that Paralex?!" Silver called.
They saw Rainbowdust flash a smile, followed by a nod by Sparkler, and the three of them walked off.
The two fillies stood there, looking at where the three ponies once were.
"I-I'm going to miss them..." Sliver Spoon said, ears falling flat.
Diamond simply nodded as she slowly began to walk towards school.
"Hey, why is everypony not inside the school?" Diamond though aloud when she saw students outside, and the doors shut.
"Lets go ask." Silver said, picking up her pace.
"Silv! Wait!" Diamond exclaimed. "They might not tell the fillies and colts what's going on."
"Oh, how about we ask Ms. Harper. She trusts us with everything." Silver said.
"Okay. Ms. Harper!" Diamond called to her english teacher near the door.
A white unicorn mare with a red and pink mane, and green eyes came up to them.
"Yes, girls?"
"Do you know what's going on?" Diamond asked.
Ms. Harper lowered her voice.
"No worries, the parents have been informed about our current situation. It's that the grades for our school have been hacked. We're not allowing anypony until it's all figured out."
"Th-Thanks, Ms." Silver said, nudging Diamond Tiara, and taking her to a different part of the school. "My parents may come to pick me up." She said. "This might mean we're leaving early to Ponyville."
"B-But how can we let this happen?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, Crystal Lake Primary was the most attended, and best schools in Canterlot. But then, Canterlot Academy opened up, and many ponies began to bring their children here. What if Crystal Lake Primary.
