A new home
Surprise for everyone!
Load Full StorySpark Chaser yawned, walking towards the small home. It had been a long day of moving for her. The move from Canterlot took more out of her than she thought it would. Her small foal, however had been looking forward to the move. Sweet Cream walked ahead of her, 'exploring' he would say as he stuffed his nose into the grass. She shook her head knowingly, a warm smile appearing as she gazed at her little colt.
"Mama Chaser, our things are already set up, right?"
Spark nodded, patting the top of Cream's head, his light yellow mane soft under her hoof. She had sent all of their things ahead of time along with a detailed map and explanation of where to put things. If there was something she didn't want opened then she specifically had them set it aside so she could do it herself. It was going to be a surprise whether or not the delivery pony’s actually did their job. Especially with how much she paid them to do it. The last thing to do was to travel there themselves. Of course Cream, hearing that they could go by train, wanted to take the long way. Spark wasn't too happy about it, but gave in when he pleaded with her.
The reason that they were moving had been because there was an accident with the house in Canterlot. Spark Chaser was an inventor and of course mistakes were par for the course, but her work had become far more dangerous in the recent years. It was amazing how it happened earlier when an explosion that not only destroyed most of her house, but also landed her in the hospital happened. Sweet Cream had cried for three days straight before actually having the heart to tell her that her house 'collapsed' after they got her to the hospital. She was alright with it at first, but when the notion of moving to a new house came up, she became stupidly stubborn. Spark hated meeting new people because everypony always reacted the same way when they saw her.
"Mama Chaser! I found a ladybug." Cream leaned down to look at the little red bug. The small white pony resting on the green blades as he stared it down.
"I don't mind if you're on the grass, but stay away from the dirt; you'll get your coat dusty."
"Yes, Mama Chaser."
Cream stood up, butt first. His scruff of a tail causing a frown from the older pony. He had a long tail to match his fluffy yellow mane, but when he came to visit her one day at the hospital, it had all been cut off. When she had asked about it, he wagged the short tail next to her own; the explosion burning it down to a tuff. 'We match' he sniffed, eyes red and puffy from crying. Cream had looked a little funny at first with his short tail and long mane, but It made him happy. Who was she to scold him for something so sweet.
The place they were moving to was on the outskirts of Ponyville. It was a precaution so if something similar happened then no one would become involved. She doubted she'd get anything done as it was really about her recovery and no matter how many times she insisted that she was fine, Cream refused to have any of it and made her promise. He was way too good at negotiating with her.
The sun was kissing the hills as they finally reached the house. Cream was running with his last bit of energy with Spark trailing behind. She had expected him to go into the house immediately, but was surprised when he stopped in-front of the door. Spark raise a brow.
"What's wrong?"
"I want to go in together."
Spark blushed and smiled. The kid honesty warmed her heart at the silliest times. She trotted the rest of the way and watched him open the door as she finally walked up. Cream paused, mouth agape as he looked into the house.
"What's wro-"
A loud popping noise had Spark covered in confetti as she walked in beside Cream. Inside the house was a party that seemed like it included almost the entire town. Or at least two thirds. The one who had been holding the party popper was a pink pony with a very curly mane and tail. She had looked very happy until she caught a good look at Spark. Eyes wide like most of the ponies in the room.
She knew this would happen. Her mental sigh as she re-positioned herself. The sound of metal on wood was distinct in the echo of silence. The soft sunshine coloured coat uneven with bald patches that out lined old scars, hardened skin sitting just about where her prosthetic legs connected. Sweet Cream was used to the sight of her where many were not. A unicorn with only her right fore hoof as her last natural limb. A mane dyed in mango with a brown singe to it despite how much charred hair was cut off, what was left of her tail was in a similar state. Her eyes... Were alright. If not for that her left eye was glossy with blindness despite its yellow shine.
"Wow, a party!" Spark said loudly in almost monotone. "Cream, you love parties!"
With that she slid him forward into the room, gritting her teeth in a fake smile. She only hoped that he wouldn't be teased for having such a Franken-pony mom. Cream was not a mood reader and squealed in excitement, bounding around before chatting up a few of the ponies.
Spark took this as her cue to leave, escaping into the basement before anyone could look at her for much longer. She stopped at the bottom of the steps to listen for the music and continued on when the party had started without her. Not that she minded, she rather disliked being forced into an awkward situation with complete strangers. It at least gave her time to check any unopened boxes and if anything was out of place.
“It's going to be a hard week for Spark Chaser,” she mumbled.
