Chapter 1 Despair and hope
In a downtrodden part of town and inside a abandon apartment building, three girls in were inside the dark of one of the old apartments. They were the Dazzlings, and it was safe to see that they had fallen pretty far since their defeat one month ago.
Their leader Adagio sat in the corner brooding and cleaning her nails, Aria walked from one end of the room to the other. Mean while, the always blissful Sonata laid on her back, an old mattress laying beneath her, she was playing with a old torn up toy, which she held in air and humming a cheery tune and smiling brightly.
Aria stopped up in the middel of the room and kicked a buckett hard, the rainwater in it spilling all over the floor. “Aaahh! Why does everything in our Life have tp be so unfair!” Arie yelled out in frustration.
“Quit your complaining Aria, we're all in the same boat here.” Adagio reminded her, looking annoyed at Aria. "We don't need to hear you complain every 10 minute," Ardagio said. Aria turned angry towards Adagio.
“No thanks to you.” The grumpy girl scowled, Adagio looked up at Aria annoyed. “Here we go.” Adagio said and rolled her eyes tiredly. “You let the Raingoon’s get the best of us! And you caused them to get us to lose our voices! Now we can’t even at least have fast food!” Aria said, exasperated. Adagio brushed some dust off her lab and stood up, “This is nothing more than a minor setback.” Adagio defended.
“Yeah, that’s what you said last week.” Aria pointed out. “And the week before that… and the week before that.” Sonata added, not catching on the mood in the room. “Shut up, Sonata!” The other two yelled, causing her to drop her toy.
Aria and Adagio then looked angry at Sonata, "you know Adagio," Aria said and turned towards Adagio again, "now that I think about it, I don't think it's your fault that the Raingoon's beat us,". Adagio just looked confused at her, Aria then pointed her thumb at Sonata who was playing with her toy again, Adagio then realized what she meant.
They both then looked at Sonata who finally noticed them staring at her.
"What? What did I do?" Sonata asked confused as her two friends stared at her. "Ah, I see your point." Adagio said and nodded, "Yeah." Aria nodded in agreement. "What!?" Sonata questioned, still not getting it.
Adagio then walks over to the door and opened it, before pointing her finger at the now open door with an annoyed look on her face, "get out" she said in a hard tone, "Get out? What do you mean 'get out'?" Sonata asked, dumbfounded.
Aria stomped closer to her. "Get out as in LEAVE. THIS PLACE. NOW!" she said, firmly. Sonta gasped in shock. "You're... you're dumping me? But... but WHY?" she inquires, hurt and teary eyed.
The purple skinned girl held up a finger each time she said a number. "One; you're an idiot. Two; you frequently mess things up and Three; and this is a big one... we don't like you!" Aria answered. "Precisely." Adagio nodded. "You see, we don't need you anymore Sonata, for it was YOUR fault we lost our magic in the first place."
"MY fault?" Sonata questioned, stunned. "But we..."
"Nuh-uh, there's no WE anymore." Aria told her, bluntly. "That's right, and you want to know something else? Those snacks you sometimes made? We NEVER liked them." Adagio revealed, coldly which made Sonata gasp sharply.
"Never!" Aria hissed as Sonata started to cry even more. "How can you say that? I thought we were friends?" Sonata said between the hiccups she made while crying, Adagio and Aria just rolled with their eyes.
"Oh please, we only kept you around because we needed your voice," Aria said annoyed, she then walked to the side of Sonata and used her foot to push her off the bed. Sonata then fell face first on the floor, after recovering from the small fall, she sat on the floor and looked at Adagio with a begging look. "Take a hint" she said and found an old soda can and threw after Sonata.
The can bearly missed Sonata's head, "we don't want you here, so LEAVE!" Adagio yelled at Sonata, tears then began to fall heavy from Sonata's eyes, she then stood up and began to run. As Sonata reached the door, she slammed it so hard it fell off and hit the floor.
"Great, now we need to repair the door too..." Aria said.
Sonata was running as fast as she could, and she wasn't looking to where she was running, all she cared about was to get away.
She then stumbled and fell.
Sonata then slowly got up and sat on her knees, a short while later, began she to cry into her hands, "why did they have to be so mean?" Sonata asked. As Sonata was crying, she didn't notice that five men was walking towards her.
The men had a evil smile as they walked towards her. A sixth man then walked between the other five and walked up to Sonata. "Anything wrong miss?" He asked Sonata, she then looked up at him with eyes red from crying. Sonata soon stopped crying and got a confused look, "huh?".
The other men's smiles then became wider, "do you have any family nearby? Or maybe cousins?" The man asked, Sonata then began crying again, the man's smile became just as wide as the others. "Hey boss, seem like we found a good one," one of the men said to the man in front of Sonata. Sonata didn't really get what he meant by 'good one'.
Soon, Sonata felt someone taking hold of her wrist, "hey, let me go." Sonata said and tried to pull away, but the man held on tight. "Sorry girl," he said with a dirty smile, Sonata was beginning to get scared, "but you are coming with us."
Sonata then realized what they wanted with her and began to struggle, "no don't!" She yelled and made the man annoyed. 'SLAP!' Sonata then felt a stinging pain on her cheek and a red mark was beginning to form. "Now you listen girl!" The man said but stopped as the sound of bare feet's or sandals running could be heard.
"What in the...." the man holding Sonata said. Right before a foot in flip flops hit him in the face and sent him flying. Once the man hit the ground, his goons looked at him before looking at the person who kicked him.
The one who kicked him was a 16 year old boy in black cargo pants, a blue and white Gi shirt with a black belt around his hip and a black belt designed like a horse shoe mark on his right shoulder.
The boy then looked around at the men before looking at Sonata, "please tell me I hit the right guy?" He asked Sonata before the men attacked him.
Sonata looked on in shock as the boy dodged, blocked and countered all of the men's attacks. While the men was attacking him, the boy was having a joyful smile on his face, as if he was having fun, he then made a back flip into one of the goons face and jumped towards a different one, as he then punched the one he was flying towards in the face.
The boy then rolled forward on the ground and stood up. "Wow, you guys are really bad at fighting," he said and dusted himself off. The leader was getting really angry, "just grab the girl and let's get away!" He yelled at his lackeys. One of them then tried to take hold of Sonatas wrist, but got an empty can in the face instead. "You goons better leave," the boy said and took a fighting stance.
"Ah screw this," said the guy who got the can thrown at him and ran, "we aren't getting paid enough for this," a different one said and ran away too. The other then slowly followed suit so only the leader stood back alone.
He then looked around and saw he was all alone, "ok Bub, we can do this the easy way," the boy said and cracked his knuckles, "or the fun way and I really hope you take the fun way," he said smiling, the leader then turned around and ran away screaming. As the scream was fading, the boy got a disappointed look on his face, "they never choose the fun way," he said, then the sound of a trashcan being toppled over was heard.
The boy looked in the Direction and saw Sonata lying on the ground, it looked like she had been trying to get away. "Hey! Are you ok!?" The boy ask and runs over to her, but Sonata looks scared, "please don't hurt me." Sonata say on the ground and shield herself with her arms.
The boy then stopped dead in his tracks, but didn't notice a banana peel and fell on his back. Sonata, although she was shielding herself, succeeded in seeing the boy fall backwards, Sonata couldn't help but giggle at it.
"Ow, ow, owww.... who put that there?" The boy asked and rubbed the back of his head, he then head Sonata giggle, "huh, looks like you are ok," he said and tried to stand, but felt a small jolt in his back. "Are you ok?" Sonata asked, the boy then stood up slowly. "Year, I felt worse," the boy then got another jolt. "Gee, hate to see what 'worse' looks like." Sonata remarked and tilted her head, before gasping sharply. "Or WORSER!"
"Is worser even a word...?" The boy inquired and cracked his back. Sonata just shrugged. "Beats me." Sonata said.
The boy then smile and offered his hand to Sonata, Sonata then smiled and took it.
Once Sonata had gotten on her feet, did the boy give her a small look over, "um, what are you doing?" Sonata asked and felt awkward for having a stranger look her over. "Just making sure you're ok." The boy said, he then took a look at Sonata's cheek. "Ouch, that's gonna leave a mark tomorrow," the boy said.
Sonata then felt how her cheek was stinging, "yeah, it really hurts," a small tear then left Sonata's eye.
The boy then felt like there was something he had forgotten, he then hit his fist into his palm as he remembered. "Oh yeah, I haven't presented me yet," he said and Sonata just looked at him confused.
He then held out his hand for Sonata. "My names Kicking Dash, but my friends just calls me Kick," Kick said and smiled, Sonata couldn't remember why Kick's last name sounded familiar. But she just took Kick's hand and tried to smile.
"My names Sonata Dusk." Sonata said and felt how rough Kick's hand felt, as if it had been used for hard labor or something like that for many years. Kick noticed that Sonata seemed a bit sad, "I hope you don't mind me asking," Kick said, getting Sonata's attention, "but um... why are you sad?"
Sonata was shocked by the question. Everything that Aria and Adagio said then came flooding back to her. Tears began to appear in Sonata's eyes and she fell down on her knees, crying strongly into her hands. Kick didn't know what he should do as Sonata was crying. "I'm sorry! I shouldn't have asked!" Kick quickly said, Sonata didn't hear him and continued crying.
Kick then tried to cheer Sonata up by doing some silly movements and funny faces. But Sonata just ignored him.
As Kick stood on one of his arms and stuck his tongue out with a silly face, he noticed that Sonata still crying, Kick made a strong push with his arm and jumped on his feet again. He then began to think.
"Hey Sonata?" Kick asked, getting Sonata's attention, "what?" Sonata asked, teary eyed. Kick gave her a smile, " why did the skeleton go to a party on its own?" Sonata just looked confused at Kick. " Because he had no BODY to go with!" Kick stood with his arms stretched out, smiled like an idiot and looked at Sonata, who looked flabbergasted at him.
As the wind blew by , stood Kick still, waiting for a reaction from Sonata, who just looked dumbfounded at him. Kick lowered his head in defeat but heard some laughter.
As Kick looked up, he saw Sonata laughing, "that was a good one," She said, making Kick smile, "want to hear more?" Kick asked, Sonata nodded her head and looked at him with a smile.
"Why did the yellow dinosaur cross the road?" Kick asked Sonata who began to think, "I don't know, why did he?".
"Because it was the chicken's day off!" Sonata then burst out laughing and clapped her hands. "Ok, how about this one: Why did the turkey cross the road?" Sonata lifted her shoulders.
"Because he wasn't a chicken!" Sonata once again burst out laughing. Kick couldn't help but think Sonata's laugh was a nice sound. Once Sonata had caught her breath did she stand up and look at Kick. "You're a funny guy," Sonata said, before she got a sad look on her face. "Do you really wanna know why I'm sad?" She asked, Kick nodded.
"Well, the two I thought was my friends, the only ones I've ever had, just told me they never liked me." Sonata said and stroke her arm. "And they also said that the only reason they kept me around, was because they needed me. But now that's over, they didn't want me around anymore." As Sonata finished her story, a few tears had found their way into her eyes.
Kick Saw the tears and quickly caught her in a hug. Sonata was surprised by the hug, but instead of getting free, she began to cry loudly into Kick's shoulder, while Kick lightly patted her on the back.
