Chapters Moonbreaker and the Moon.
From one life, to another.
THWACK....the ringing in his ears was more immense than it had ever been. Not to mention the broken nose, bloody lip, and dislocated jaw. Vaguely hearing a noise over the ringing, he barely lifted his head and noticed a pitchfork aimed directly at him with grievous intentions. As he lay there beaten into submission and on the verge of death via farming equipment he began to recall the events of just moments before.
~~~
It had been a hard days work on the farm. He plowed the fields, harvested the ready crops, and fed all the animals as well and did it all without being able to use his magic. Not that he could actually do any to begin with. Because when you have a father who hates unicorns it doesn't help being one in the long run. And it's even worse when that same father treats you like a slave, working and forcing you to do everything for all your worth. The only reward you ever get for work is the privilege to sleep in your own room instead of the barn and even that had to be earned. Otherwise you'll just end up getting chained to a post just close enough to food and water along with some source of heat.
Moonbreaker had just finished rounding up all of the farm animals and leading them to their respective housings. Of all the work he did he found the ones with the animals to be the least grueling as they had legs to move themselves, though sometimes you couldn't tell the difference between them and a living bolder. But with all the animals in their respective areas Moonbreaker was finally finished with his daily routine, but even then it brought it's own hardships. With his work done that meant it was time to eat and then bed, but it also ment he had to be in the same room as his father. The thought alone sent chills down his spine and aches all over his body from where he had been beaten with what ever the old stallion could get his hooves on.
Not that he had a choice. He could either starve and spend the rest of the night and most of next morning in agony. Or he could eat and just hope his father doesn't come in drunk off cider and decides his wife's to good to beat. In the end the choice was be miserable now or be miserable later and Moonbreaker had learned a while ago to take the meals he gets with as much gratitude as if they have been given by the princesses themselves. So he hung up his pitchfork on the rack of the barn wall and proceeded to head back to his home and much to his surprise he's greeted my his mother smiling instead of scolding him as she usually does.
She shouted from across the lawn "Come on hurry up and wash off before your father gets here and gets mad".
Moonbreaker was startled by this at first but shrugged it off as he figured something exciting must have happened for his mother to be so happy for once, a rarity in this place normally. Having learned to follow requests from years of slave work Moonbreaker was quick to oblige and proceeded to the houses washroom so he could clean himself off. In his own opinion he wasn't that dirty to begin with though there were patches of mud and gunk on his coat that he had gotten when he was rounding up the chickens and one ran between his legs and caused him to stumble over into a mud hole. As he washed himself he thought back to the appearance of his parents and compared them to himself. For one both his parents were earth ponies but he was a unicorn. His mother had an egg white coat with golden eyes and a black mane and tail. While his father had a dark green coat and and even darker mane and tail with blue eyes. Moonbreaker then thought back to himself, he had a dark blue coat with purple eyes and a ghostly white mane. For the longest time he thought for certain he wasn't their son and in the back of his mind still does slightly but has largely stopped thinking about it. When he finished washing up he walked into the dining room of the home to see a table covered in more food than he had thought possible.
"Well go on sit down, your father should be here soon" she had said with a large grin on her face.
At this point Moonbreaker was more than freaked out at his mother's apparent enthusiasm at clearly something exciting. He would have asked what all the excitement was but he knew even if he could talk he wouldn't get a word in. Oh how he wished he could speak or at least laugh but even that he couldn't manage to do. He sometimes wondered what he would sound like if he had a voice, would it be deep and masculine, or high and squeaky or most likely somewhere in between. He continued on these thoughts unconsciously sitting down. He didn't even notice his father enter the room and walk up behind him. It took his father screaming in outrage to finally get Moonbreaker out of his trance.
"WHAT IN THE NAME OF CELESTIA IS THIS! WHY IS THERE SO MUCH FOOD GOING TO WASTE".
"Dear you don't understand it's not going to waste. I made it all because I have some exciting news".
Never had he heard his mother talk to his father without some sort of spite taking place between them. He was now more interested than ever to figure out what this news was and hoped it had something to involve him getting a break or leaving this place. When his father finally calmed down and sat at the table both him and Moonbreaker were intrigued at what the news was.
With a smile bigger than she had ever made before she burst out in excitement "I'm having another foal".
In an instant both stallions eyes shot open at the statement.
"What do ya mean your having another foal. We've been trying for the past twenty years because we've just been stuck with this idiot" he finished glaring at Moonbreaker.
"I know because I've been going through all of the symptoms morning sickness, odd cravings, mood swings everything. Ohh Shepherd isn't this such fantastic news".
Two things caught Moonbreaker's attention in that moment. When was his mother so smart about this. And he now after twenty years, nearly twenty-one, he knew his fathers name.
"Marigold this is some of the best news I've gotten in a long time. When do you think your due".
"Well I'm not sure when it happened because my heat doesn't start till fall. But my guess is around spring next year. Around the same time as...."
Her silence keyed Moonbreaker in on what she was going to say and also helped him realize how she knew so much about having foals. Before Moonbreaker was born she had twins, two colts and earth ponies like their parents. They both died a few months after Moonbreaker was born. The two were only three when it happened. While they never said it Moonbreaker was certain he didn't always have his current name; and that they changed it out of anger and spite to princess Luna and the moon. From what he had learned his brothers both died on full moons and his parents blamed Luna for it. But maybe now he could finally leave this place and find a home for himself, or at least after the foal's born anyway.
"Your right this is a good enough reason to have all this food. And I'm sorry for making ya feel bad. But I have a question, just why in the world is he in here instead of in the barn".
Moonbreaker could see his mother's eyes wonder over her husband and then to him. He knew what was going to happen and already started walking to the door. He glanced over his shoulder to his father and sent him an angry look. In his still largely drunken state that's all it took to set him off. Before Moonbreaker had time to react he had been tackled by the drunk stallion and was currently being flung out the door with his father on top of him. Miraculously when they both hit the ground Moonbreaker ended up on top but that was quickly changed when suddenly he was on his back with a pair of hooves crushing his windpipe. He started the flail his hooves around at random hoping to get a hit off and at least disorient the stallion on top of him. Luckily he was able to get a hit off on the stallions jaw and knocked him off so he could a breath. That moment of calm didn't last however as his father was filled with rage and the only thought going through Moonbreakers head was run. Moonbreakers first instinct was to get to the barn and lock the door, unfortunately for him despite his fathers age he was still faster than Moonbreaker by far. Before he knew it once again Moonbreaker was on the ground, this time getting beaten instead of chocked. Since it worked last time, once again Moonbreaker started flailing his hooves around but to no avail. Since he was out of ideas Moonbreaker decided the best thing to do was use his head and quite literally at that. Launching himself up as fast as possible he slammed his face directly into his fathers. It did its job and Moonbreaker was able to get back up again but in doing so not only did he bite severely into his own lip he also smashed his nose out of place. Again he started running to the barn but again his father was on his tail.
"Why won't you just stay down" he screamed in his head.
He was finally at the barn and just about to close the door and lock it behind him when....THWACK.
_____________________________________________________________________
As he slowly began to regain his sense of direction and hearing the stallion above him stayed as solid as a rock with the pitchfork aimed straight ahead. Moonbreaker was certain this would be his end, he'd finally be allowed to leave but instead his father got close and pinned him to the floor and began talking in his ears.
"You are the biggest disappointment for a son I'd ever known. You be more useful as a mare than you are now. Because as a mare at least you could be bread and bring more foals into this family".
By now Moonbreaker determined that the few blows he got off to his fathers head had caused some damage on top of his already drunken stupor. Not that it made the scene any less unnerving and unsettling.
"You'd make the perfect little brood mare. Every time you popped a foal out I'd put one right back in you. You'd be completely submissive to me; and if any of your brothers slash sons showed interest you'd treat them just the same. Even after you stop producing foals you'd still be nothing more the a fuck slave. Until the day you died".
Before he knew it Moonbreaker was unconscious and drifting off into the void of his mind. When he woke up much to his own surprise he was still in the barn. His head hurt like tartarus and his nose and jaw were still out of place but he could fix this with relative ease. One of the perks of having been beaten for years he has not only a high pain tolerance but has learned how to reset his jaw, legs, and nose when need be. Not to his surprise when he had finished fixing himself and went to the door it was locked. Apparently his father was to lazy to carry him out to his post and instead just latched the barn door shut from the outside. Moonbreaker guessed that the same could be said for the other smaller doors but he wasn't really complaining, he'd get a night to himself for once since it seemed to be around midnight. Oh and what a beautiful night it was. The light of the moon shown through the cracks and holes of the barn and the sparse number of windows.
Moonbreaker walked over to one of the windows that had moonlight shinning through it. When he reached the window he leaned over onto it and peered up at the moon in all its beauty. He sat there for what felt like ages just watching the moon cross the night sky like a carriage crossing an open field. Thinking back to it this was the same way he had gotten his cutie mark, just watching the moon one night when he was still a young colt. Back then he wasn't beaten, he wasn't forced to work to sleep, he wasn't a hostage by his own family. He was free to have fun and to play. But than one day that all changed and he was forced to do everything around here while his father got drunk and his mother criticized him on everything he did saying he wasn't good enough. He missed those days, the days in which the pain hadn't existed and never should have. He breathed on the glass and drew a heart around the moon and wrote "I love you" beneath it. Another thing the past gave him was the ability to write, he'll be it crude, sentences and phrases. Slowly he began to drift off to sleep still leaned on the edge and his hoof on the glass. Just before his body fell to the floor with his sleep a hoof placed itself next to Moonbreakers on the other side of the window before the sound of flapping wings echoed through the night.
_____________________________________________________________________
As the months trailed onward it became very obvious that Moonbreakers mother was indeed pregnant with a foal; and with it came more and more work for Moonbreaker having to not only do his normal chores but prepare every single meal his mother asked down to the T and having to get a room ready for the foal as well. Eventually once it started getting cold enough all he had to do was feed his mother and keep the room in check. The best part of it all was that he was allowed to sleep in the house since he was taking care of his mother constantly. They turned his room into the foals room so he has to sleep on the floor but it's better than nothing. His mother is actually nice to him instead of constantly scolding him and his father doesn't always come home drunk, slightly buzzed but not drunk. As much as he hated to admit it, deep down he hated the idea of a new foal not because it'd get all the attention but because if it died he'd be right back where he was. And even if it lived it might come to the same fate as him.
Slowly that hidden hate grew. Ever so slowly increasing in intensity and Moonbreaker had no idea as to why. He might actually have a living sibling and yet he found it to only enrage him more. Something inside him hated the unborn foal and it wanted it dead, but Moonbreaker wouldn't allow it. Not now and not ever. He just needed an outlet to let his anger out on. One winters night on a full moon he snuck out of the house and went out into the now snow covered ground and sat down in the white powder and stared up at the sky observing the moon and the stars. He was more than happy that his outlet was something he loved and he wouldn't need to hurt anything or himself. The moons presence calmed him and allowed him to think straight and clear his head, it just helped and he loved it and the silence more than anything. He barely heard the hoof steps behind though; and it was to late to react when he did.
"What in the world are you doing out here boy" screamed his father barely over the increasing wind. "Your mother's been calling for ya for the past ten minutes. Now unless you want to sleep in the barn tonight I suggest you get movin".
The wind was picking up exponentially at this point and clouds began to blot out the moon. Moonbreaker thought he saw his father step closer to him through the darkness and the snow that had been picked up because of the wind. He could hear him screaming and shouting but the wind was to great to hear anything noticeable. For some reason the hate that he felt for his father started to surge within him. For some reason he actually felt like acting on his dreams for once he was going to try and kill his father. The only problem was finding him in this sudden blizzard. The wind kept picking up and Moonbreaker could feel himself begin to freeze but his hate kept getting stronger and pushing him onward. It felt like it took five minutes to move two feet but through the blizzard he could see the outline of a pony. His anger spiked at that moment and he charged. Suddenly he couldn't feel the wind or the snow all he could feel was his head pointed down ready to impale the pony in front of him. What he didn't expect to hear was his mother.
He pulled back, his horn covered in blood, to see lying on the ground before him was his mother. And next to her was the pony he wanted to stab. As fast as it showed up his murderous rage disappeared and was replaced with horror. He could see the hole in her chest, right next to her heart, and the amount of blood leaking out of it as her breath began to increase and slow at random. For the first time in his life, or from what he could remember, his father was crying. He could see the tears running down his fathers face as he held his wife in his hooves. Soon the tears that ran down his face stopped as he turned to face Moonbreaker with blood covering his hooves. He finally snapped. Faster than Moonbreaker had ever seen his father move the old stallion had him pinned to the ground and beating the life out of him. Moonbreaker could feel the force of the punches against his body and face yet he couldn't feel the pain of it all. The only real pain he felt was when a punch missed it's mark and slammed directly into his horn. The reaction was instant as Moonbreaker felt his horn break in two, somehow not completely breaking off. When he shot his hooves up to his head to stop the bleeding Moonbreaker managed to knock his father off of him. Quickly stumbling backwards he reached up to feel his horn. It had been almost split in two down the middle but the base remained intact. Where it had split the edges were rigged and jagged and the tip was broken off in an almost serrated point.
It was his fathers screams the broke him out of his pain induced trance. He didn't know what to do but needed to do something. He began to focus, on what he wasn't sure, but on something. He thought about what to do when he felt an energy run through his horn. He had herd a loud thud once as his father was hit by something and a second when the stsllion hit the ground. When he opened his eyes, Moonbreaker saw his father a few feet away on the ground, impaled on the pitch fork. It's spikes going through his chest and into his heart. He'd finally done it, he'd finally gotten rid of the bane of his existence, but he felt no joy in its happening. Instead the horror that befell him upon the site of him stabbing his mother only doubled at the site of him killing his father; and the worst part of it all was watching his mother slowly crawl over to the corpse of her husband as she slowly bled to death. All he could do was watch. His breathing all but stopped as time stood still. When he finally moved, it was away from the place he'd lived for so long, away from his life, away from his family. And he never stopped, not until he was nearly dead himself half frozen in the middle of nowhere.
"Fitting a monster like me should freeze to death. At least I know where I'll end up".
And with those finally mental sayings he was gone, lost to the darkness and never to be free. If only he wasn't saved by an angel of the night.
_____________________________________________________________________
The room he was in was lit with a brilliant golden light with walls as white as snow.
"Where am I" he thought to himself. "Why am I here. Is this some trick or am I just dreaming as I freeze to death".
These thoughts and more were interrupted by a knocking on the door. Before he could walk over and open it himself a pony wearing metal all over its body entered the room.
"Hurry up sir, don't want to be late do you".
The odd pony quickly led or well more pushed Moonbreaker out of the room and into a large hall. They both began to walk down the hall in silence for the most part other than the noise of the metal wearing pony. They walked for a few minutes before they entered a large open room with rows of ponies on either side of a long ed carpet that came out of a dark hall and ended in front of a podium. The podium itself was also greatly decorated with white roses with an arch above it also covered and white roses and other flowers. With out his know Moonbreaker unconsciously kept walking until he was standing on one side of the podium. He stood there for a few minutes before the sound of music caught his attention. Every pony quickly turned their heads towards the hall as two ponies came out of the shadows. One was wearing a beautiful gown patterned like the night sky with part of it covering their face. The other pony was a giant compared to all others in the room including the one she stood next to, who even then was taller than all the other ponies in the room.
The pony in the gown stood across from him next to the podium while the tall one placed herself behind it. With the pony being this close he determined it was a mare. As well he took notice that he was actually taller than her by about an inch or two. While he began to process all of what was going on he barely noticed he was being called upon.
"Well....do you" asked the tall pony staring at him with a very serious expression on her face.
Not knowing really what to do he responded "yes, I do". It took him only a second before he realized. "I, just spoke" he said in his head.
He was brought back to reality when the tall pony began to speak again.
"So then by the power invested in me I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride"
Moonbreaker had to replay what he had just heard. Did she just say husband and wife you may now kiss the bride? He was beyond scared at what he'd just accepted, but was even more so if he didn't follow through. His hooves began to move on themselves however as he was thinking and had reached the cloth covering the mares face. Slowly he lifted the cloth to reveal the mare; and when he could see who it was it shocked him more than anything else that had just happened.
"You!!!" Is all he managed to say before the world around him faded to black.
_____________________________________________________________________
He felt....cold NO....hot no....cold, he felt like he was laying down on something and was covered by something else at the same time. Was this a bed? Did all he do only happen in a dream? Did he really kill his parents and sibling. He couldn't tell, especially with his eyes closed like they were. He tried to open them but they seemed frozen shut, which didn't help his this is all a dream theory. He put more effort into opening his eyes and slowly the crust that had formed around them began to crack and break apart allowing him to get a glimpse at the world around him. After being blinded for a moment he looked around to try and figure out where he was. Finding the ceiling wasn't much help he started to raise his head to get a better look on things. While doing so he let out a rather loud moan and pushed himself back with his hooves to come into contact with a wall. Once he was able to focus more he noticed the mare in front of him rather late for she was already meer inches away from him. When he did noticed, he more or less jumped back a few inches away from the mare. She was small, or it was just because he was on what he assumed was a bed. She had a white coat with a red mane and tail, with baby blue eyes. She began to slowly raise her hoof towards his face but he lowered it out of the way with his own and took notice of a rather obvious size difference.
"Astonishing, you've been unconscious and bedridden for months not to mention the extreme frost bite you experienced and yet you still seem to have full body movement. How is this possible at most you should only be able to look around and even then you'd be to brain damaged to take notice of the world around you. Tell me what it feels like when I grab your hoof."
Before he could react she had grabbed the opposite hoof he'd used to pushed hers out of the way. However she let go near instantly and looked up at him with even more astonishment.
"Your hooves are freezing cold" she said grabbing his other hoof just to launch her hooves back again. "How didn't I feel it when you pushed mine out of the way? Probably because of my shock but I wonder if your this cold all over."
Before he let her do anything wierd he slowly pushed her away with one of his back hooves and questioned why how warm he was was such an interest to her. Finally he started taking notice of the room he was in. It was a rather large room if it was actually ment for a medical room. There was a rather large amount of space not being used and there were windows far larger than what they needed to be. As well the bed he was in seemed for the sort to sleep in and not for injured ponies, but what did he know. Still blatantly aware of the strange mare to his side he pushed himself up and out of the bed. He landed of wobbly legs but quickly he readjusted himself and slowly started walking around the room, again catching the attention of the mare. This time instead of trying to physically examine him she left to the room in somewhat of a hurry. He continued to walk around the room taking note of all that he saw and what he didn't see. He was about to try the door to the room when he spotted a strange pony staring at him. It took him a moment to realize that the pony staring at him was actually him looking at himself in a mirror.
"What happened to me." The words played in his head over and over
The pony in front of him barely even looked like him. His mane had grown an exponential amount reaching nearly the floor at its longest. As well his tail had gone through the same change as his mane with it dragging the ground behind him. How he didn't notice these two things before hoof he had no idea. The same could be said for how his coat had changed, it a much light faded blue then before. The thing that shocked him the most however...were his eyes. They weren't their normal purple anymore they looked like his mane and tail. Except instead of just being a pale ghostly white....they seemed to glow with some unknown power; and that scarred him. He was so entranced with his own reflection he didn't hear the door of the room open and close nor the hoof steps behind him. He continued staring deathly into his eyes, their glow entrancing as they shone in the mirror. Even after the ponies that had entered the room stood behind him in plain view of the mirror themselves he still didn't look away from himself. He didn't know how long he'd been staring at himself but what one of the ponies behind him place a hoof on his shoulder it caused him to quite literally jump out of it.
Were it not for the fact the mirror he was starring into was attached to the wall he might have just taken it to the floor with him. As he started to pick himself up he thought he'd herd some sort of laugh or maybe a giggle, he wasn't sure and was more focused on finding out who he assumed were his saviors. Pushing himself up he turned to face the ponies behind him, if only his new mane hadn't gotten in the way. He tried blowing it out of the way but that didn't work. He probably would have let out a grunt of frustration if he could have, but instead continued with his work of removing his mane from his view figuring to just use his hooves. When he had gotten enough out of the way to see who was in front of him again he jumped back, this time about a foot or two, and once again had his view obstructed by his mane. As he once again was forced to the ground by his own nerves and shock again he moved his mane out of the way with total shock in his eyes at the ponies in front of him. Another laugh came from one of the ponies in front of him
"It appears he is having a moment of shock Lulu. At least he's not completely disabled like we had suspected him to be."
"I've told you time and time again I do not like you calling me Lulu not just in public but everywhere. As for his condition I am pleasantly pleased he is alive and well, even if the magic therapy had some unexpected side effects."
"Are they talking about me" he asked himself getting over his shock surprisingly fast.
"Come on Luna, you say you don't like being called Lulu but I can clearly see that you do. And besides if the nurse were hear I wouldn't have said it anyway nor mentioned how you actually like being called it."
"I truly do not know what you mean. And even then what makes the nurse and our new guest any different."
"For one Luna I doubt he can even comprehend what's taking place in front of him if the silence is anything to go by that or he's still in shock. As well he knows no pony in this castle except me and you. And even then he only knows us because we're the princesses. Shall I continue dear sister, because I have a few more reasons if you'd like to hear them."
"You've made your point, you don't have to keep talking."
"Thank you Lulu, I mean Luna."
The tall mare that had finished talking let out a slight giggle at the obvious annoyance givin off by her smaller sisters expression. After the two sisters little verbal bout they both shifted their attention over to Moonbreaker and his odd amount of silence. By now he was back up on his hooves again just starring at the two princesses in front of him. While the three ponies seemed more or less locked in a staring contest Moonbreaker was actually taking advantage of his new found appearance since his eyes were barely noticeable when they were moving and was taking in all he could from the two ponies. They both looked like the ones in his one dream, the last one he could remember before waking up. Just like in his dream the white one was very much taller than both him and the one he determined was called Luna; and just like his dream he was taller than Luna, maybe more than in his dream. He wasn't focused on that at the moment and more on figuring out how to ask why they saved him. Along with that he wanted to know what happened to his family, if he really killed them. Thinking back to his family even for just that moment he felt something about him change ever so slightly. Soon after something had gotten the princesses attention as well.
"Brrr when did it get so cold. Is the window open."
"Even if it was open Luna it's the middle of spring. I highly doubt that a breeze could be that cold at this point in the year."
Moonbreaker didn't understand what they had ment, for he felt nothing. What caught his ear was the case that they had said it was the middle of spring. Was he really unconscious for that long. Yes the nurse said that he'd been bedridden for months but....how. It had only been a few days into the month of Hearths warming when the blizzard hit. Meaning he was out for maybe four or five months. The thought that he might have been out for a slightly longer and or shorter period also crossed his mind but neither really lingered. The two ponies in front of him quickly got past their sudden cold chills and turned their attention back over to Moonbreaker.
"So tell us, what is the name of the pony that my sister had rescued all that time ago."
And this is what he was hoping to have figured out by now. How could he tell them that he can't speak...if he can't speak? He started thinking it over darting his eyes left and right, though the princesses couldn't really notice, and decided to try and tell them with his hooves. He started by pointing to his mouth and once the princesses acknowledged that they saw what he was doing he shook his head left and right hoping that they'd understand what he ment by it.
"Are you trying to say that you can't speak. Or do you wish for something to drink to help clear your throat."
Moonbreaker redid the motion but this time trying to act out some form of word with his mouth. The princess that had asked the question seemed to understand what he ment and summoned a parchment and quill and handed it to him.
"You can't speak, do you at least know how to write especially with your horn the way it is."
He hadn't even noticed or remembered what had happened to his horn. When he reached up to feel his horn he grazed his hoof against one of the edges and slightly cut it. He barely felt the pain and no blood leaked from the cut. He looked onward at it in slight confusion but soon stopped and focused on the writing supplies in front of him and started to write down some short simple sentences using his mouth to write them.
"My name is Moonbreaker. Where am I and what happened to me and my family."
He turned the parchment around for the tall white pony to read. The sentences were barely readable with the ink over the quill spreading outwards from every letter as well as the poor quality of the writing. The quill itself was also nearly ruins it being crushed in all parts but the tip. It took a few seconds for the tall pony to read but after she put her attention to answering his questions.
"It is nice to officially meat you Moonbreaker, I am princess Celestia incase you may have forgotten and this is my sister princess Luna. Luna is the one who saved you those months ago and is also that one that suggested the magic therapy and medicines to heal you."
Celestia stopped talking for only a second, her eyes quickly darting to the side. He barely noticed it, but he knew the motion, he'd done it plenty of times before. She soon seemed to have "remembered" what she was going to say.
"As for you and your family, the magic is what caused the change to your appearance but your family...to put it bluntly we had no clue you had one. When she brought you here my sister had said she found you on the edge of a blizzard."
So he had killed them. The thought should have made him sad but he felt nothing.
"I'm sorry Moonbreaker, but the likely hood of them being alive is very low. Luna said that it was the worst blizzard that she'd seen in centuries. Again I'm sorry."
The room fell silent after that and it stayed that for a minute or so. The two princesses silently left the room leaving Moonbreaker to his own thoughts and actions. He decided to sleep and try to clear his mind. He wasn't sure how ongoing he slept for but when he woke up the light that shown through the window had been replaced with the light of the moon. He walked over to one of the windows and stared up at his only friend. He wished he could be with it or that it could send him back before he made that terrible mistake. After a few minutes he followed his thoughts back to earlier when he met the princesses.
"I knew them and yet I didn't. I felt that I recognized them the second a spotted them. Why did Celestia stop when it came to answering my family. The two of them must be hiding something but I have no way of finding out what it is. Maybe they know more about me then they say, it would explain how I seemed to recognize them so quickly."
He continued talking to himself in his head and mixing thoughts and ideas but nothing came up. After he gave up on figuring his current situation out he just continued to stare up at the moon. If only he knew the Moon was watching him in return. Keeping him safe and calm in this dream he thinks is reality. She wished she could tell him the truth...but what if he didn't accept.
From one life, to another (part 2)
Journal entry number 57
"Today marks my second full month at the castle. I have still yet to figure out the true purpose of me being here nor why I was saved. As of late my vocabulary and writing skills have greatly increased thanks to the castles vast library (note to self rewrite previous entries). As well, due to my stay at the castle some of the caretakers and guards to the princesses have started to refer to me as my name instead of "Sir". Partially caused no doubt by my somewhat constant askings to do so. I say somewhat because I did not enjoy using all that paper to say, call me my name."
Not long after his arrival at the castle, Moonbreaker started exploring it's vast halls in search of answers on why he was saved...and a place to do his normal "duties". In search of both of these things he found a library and after some slight help and constant exploring he found a few books that would help him in the long run. With the help of multiple dictionaries and slight practice he has vastly improved his vocabulary, however silent, along with his ability to write without his hooves or magic. As well he may or may not have stolen an empty journal to write down his daily observations and thoughts.
"I still need to figure out why they saved me" the thought ran through his head continuesly. "Luna was the one to save me, she was also the one I remember most from my dreams. If either of them, it had to be her. But how can I prove it."
His thoughts were interrupted my a knocking of his door. He quickly hid the journal and went over to the large door to see who was disturbing him. He opened the door to an empty hallway. There wasn't a single pony in sight of where he was. He almost went back to writing when he noticed a note on the door. It was held in the air by magic and when he went forward and grabbed it with his hoof the magic vanished. He closed the door behind him and opened the letter.
Dear Moonbreaker,
"My sister and I have been noticing the amount of time you've spent in your chambers since your arrival. As well we've been informed of the amount of books, primarily dictionaries and writing techniques, that you have been in possession of lately and we would like to discuss that with you. For these reasons we would like you to join us for a meal this eavening. We will have sent a set of guards to escorts you to our personal dinning chambers."
Sincerely, Luna.
This might be the only chance he has to get close to the princesses and ask them about their reasons to save him; and what magic they used for him to change so much. But how could he ask them when he himself cannot speak. He could write down the questions and have the two read them, but that took to long. He walked over to one of the windows and peered outside to see the sun begin its decent to the ground. It was around during noon so he had a few hours to think things over and maybe rest. He went over to his desk and retrieved his journal from its hiding place. As the hours went by he thought of a plan until one came to him. It was simple and he could do so effortlessly.
The sky was a vibrant mix of yellows, and reds when the guards arrived at his bedchamber. He grabbed a single parchment and placed it in his mane, hidden away from the sight of any he should come by. He then went to his door and followed the guards as they led him to the princesses. As they steadily marched down the halls of the castle Moonbreaker started to think back on things, as he found himself doing much more lately. The events that had decided to come to him this time were his first few days as the castle.
_____________________________________________________________________
He didn't consider the time when he first woke up to be his first day but it was comparable to the ones he did consider his first few. They went more or less the same really, he'd wake up in the morning to find some oats and an apple waiting for him. He'd eat it savoring every bite purely out of instinct and when he was finished he'd let it sit and just stare out the window or lay in his new bed. He was timid to say the least. Come evening roughly and hour or two before sunset a pony would enter his chambers or knock on the door and bring in a salad with a mix of foods he'd never had before. Once he finished his meal the pony would take both the dishes of his breakfast and diner with them leaving Moonbreaker with nothing to do or stare at. He tended to spend his days in boredom and grief, either staring out the window of his room or thinking about his family and how he no doubt killed them. Yet when the sun gave way to the moon and the stars all of his grief seemed to disappear. Under its brilliant glow the moon helped Moonbreaker feel safe and calm. Much like when he slept in the barn he would draw a heart around the moon with his hoof. He saw the moon as his only friend and had become almost dependent of its shine to the point it was the only thing keeping him alive. However things began to change once he started to explore the castle he now resided in.
The only reason he did end up leaving his room was out of boredom. He didn't want to go down the halls any further than need be, but he kept walking. Hours probably went by as he roamed the halls getting glances from guards and care takers alike. The looks on most of their faces were that of shock or anger. He could hear the ramblings of the ponies as they walked by. Most think him blind and deaph instead of mute. The words they spoke hurt or at least should have, yet he didn't care. It was when he found the library did he himself find shock. It was also where he woke up the next morning with three books in front of him. They were all books fit more for a colt or fillie instead of a full grown stallion but he didn't care. They were simple and easy to learn teaching books. The books were ment for helping him read and write and in general help him with his new life.
It took him considerably less time to find his room than it did to find the library; and when he returned to his room the pony he guessed was the one who brought him food in the morning was standing outside the door; and the stallion seemed shocked to see him outside of his room. The pony tried asking him where he had been, but Moonbreaker simply ignored him and closed the door. He had the books, all he needed now was something to eventually practice on. After some time he was able to find some blank books and snuck them out of the library. In all, it took about a week for him to get all that he needed to start writing again, and it only got easier after that. He spent most of his days in the library reading and as he kept reading it seemed to get easier and easier. Once he got to a point, he started writing in his journal for more than just practice.
_____________________________________________________________________
He couldn't reminisce to much on his thoughts as the guards snapped him out of his daydreams. He could see on their faces they were interested in what he was thinking but both knew there would be no answer. They all continued for another minute or two before they reached a small barely lit corridor with a small door on the far wall. The guards that had accompanied him pointed to the door and Moonbreaker calmly headed towards it as the guards who escorted him, went on to their normal nightly routines. The corridor while barely lit was still bright enough near the torches to see the pristine marble walls. When he reached the small door, he took notice of the detail that had been carved into it. He gave a slight knock and meer seconds later a small blue coated mare opened the door. She stared up at him with the slightest hint of shock on her face as his eyes, in their glowing appearance, seemed to peirce through the thin veil that kept her mind safe. Moonbreaker simply walked past her and met the princesses at a small round table with a single seat no doubt saved for him.
He proceeded over to the seat and when the two sisters gestured towards the cushioned rest of the seat, he sat down. The table they sat at had already been set covered in exotic foods, as well as some that Moonbreaker was more familiar with. The smells of the food and the candles mixed together to form a masterpiece aroma. After taking in the sight and smell of the food before them, the three began to indulge themselves with their meal. It was quiet for the most part, the only sound being that of chewing, smacking lips, and the silverware Moonbreaker had to eat his food. The princesses had consumed two plates each in the time it took Moonbreaker to finish even one, he being more invested in matters more important to him than food.
The two mares pushed their plates aside as two ponies came in to take them. After the two cleaned themselves up they both turned their attention to Moonbreaker. He took notice quickly and as such did the same to them, placing down his utensils and staring at them both with interest apparent on his face. The sisters turned to face each other each sending the same stuff gestures on who should go first. After the most silent argument Moonbreaker had ever witnessed they both turned towards him and began asking some questions.
"So Moonbreaker, are you enjoying your stay at the castle. Have you found it stressful in any way."
He wanted to smack her. Had she forgotten that he was mute. No offense to Celestia but Moonbreaker had figured she might have remembered that he couldn't talk.
"Sister have you forgotten something about are guest. A problem involving his voice."
"Oh yes I apologize Moonbreaker I seem to have forgotten about that. I hope I did not offend you" she finished with an embarrassed blush on her face.
He shook his head no, hopefully she'd understand what he ment, and turned his attention to Luna. It took her a moment to see he was glaring at her but when she did, she asked her questions.
"Like my sister had said, are you enjoying your stay"
He thought it over for a second, then shook his head yes.
"That's nice to know. Now, like we mentioned in the letter. We've been noticing from our staff that you've been spending lots of time in the library and your chambers as of late. Is this true?"
Once again he shook his head yes. He saw no reason to lie besides, these two had eyes and ears every where in this castle.
"Well it's nice to know that you've been acquainted to at least some of the castle. But we were wondering if you'd like to accompany us on our business in the morning. It will hopefully get you more known around the castle and allow you to be more acquainted with others instead of only your books."
The question caught him off guard to some extent. Why were they inviting him along is one of the things that came to mind. But he didn't want to remain answerless for to long, and so once again he shook yes.
"Excellent" bellowed Celestia before her sister could have the chance. "Now then, time for dessert."
With a glow of her horn, the table changed from being covered in normal dinning food to sweets stacked as high as the ceiling. While Moonbreaker and Luna sat in awe with the mound of sweets Celestia just looked forward with pure ecstacy. Compared to their actual meals, Luna and Moonbreaker eaten next to nothing for desert. Luna being more interested in staring at Moonbreaker as he sat with his mouth hanging open slightly at the sight of Celestia before him. Morsel after morsel of cakes, pies, and other sweets disappeared into the endless pit that was the princesses stomach. Continuesly she kept stuffing sweets into her mouth, only slowing for her to cast a quick spell before she continued.
The tower of desserts was soon gone, Moonbreaker having eaten the last peace of cake subconsciously, while Celestia lifted a small napkin to her mouth and wiped away any excess cake or pie.
"I must apologize Moonbreaker, it seems I haven't left any dessert for you. I am deeply sorry."
Moonbreaker snapped out of his trance and began to shake his head to let Celestia know it wasn't a problem. After some slight laughs from the princesses, a few servants entered the room and began to clean the table and refluff the seats. A few guards entered the room not long after that, and gestured to Moonbreaker that they were his escorts and it was time to leave. He waved his hoof at them and walked over to princess Luna. When she took notice of him next to her she asked him want the matter was. Calmly he reached into his mane and pulled out the letter. He moved it forward for her to take it; and it soon was floating out of his hoof. She began to to unfold the small piece of paper and read out what it had written.
"Why did you save me?"
The writing was neat, large, and simple. When she looked back up Moonbreaker had already turned away from her, and was walking towards his escorts. She looked at the letter but just folded into back up and gave it to one of the servants.
_____________________________________________________________________
The next morning, just as the night before, a set of guards knocked on the door to Moonbreakers chambers. When he answered the guards were surprised at the sight before them. Moonbreaker looked like his normal self for the most part, but his mane and tail had been changed. His tail was shorter with it only just touching the floor instead of running along it, while his mane had gone through the same change, only his mane went to just below his shoulders. The guards made a quick glance into the room and sure enough a large length of hair was on the floor. Moonbreaker was already down the hall when they realised that he had went ahead of them. The walk was somewhat of a long one, but Moonbreaker meerly laughed internally at the reactions the princesses had. They both seemed to make a double take at the sight of him, though for the most part they didn't seem bother over it. Despite this Celestia did tell one of the servants to go check his chambers for any excess.
"So Moonbreaker, are you ready to accompany my sister and I"
With a simple nod of his head, Celestia smiled and and asked him to follow her and her sister. From what they had said the night prior he figured the business was something involving the castle, but when they exited the massive stone structure and entered a carriage, he began to wonder what they were actually doing. Two lines of pegasus stallions were lined in front of the carriage, and as he expected, Celestia and Luna both entered the carriage with himself right behind them. It was a nice summers morning, the sun had been up for some time, but the world still felt cool in the breeze. As the stallions began to run forwards, they flapped their wings and soon the carriage was soaring through the air. The trip to their destination was quiet, and peaceful, it didn't take too long however and Moonbreaker was rather curious at where they were going. In just thirty or so minutes since their departure the carriage was scraping against the ground. They sound of ponies cheering was rather prominent, and when the princesses stepped out it increased two fold. A single pony approached the princesses and greeted them corjuly, the whole time Moonbreaker stayed on the carriage. Were it not for Celestia telling him to follow, he probably wouldn't have showed his face at all.
When he finally did exit the carriage, the change in the crowd was rather prominent. He could sense every eye on him, most continued to cheer in glee at the princesses, but some kept their attention on him. Here he was a none alicorn pony, with glowing white eyes, snow white mane, a dark blue coat, and at least three or four inches taller than Luna, Celestia was still a giant compared to all of the ponies in Equestria, but a gentle and peaceful one at that. The pony that greeted the princesses walked over and raised a hoof for Moonbreaker, he took up the offer, but the pony had recoiled back the moment he made contact with Moonbreakers hoof. Moonbreaker could see the pony muddle something under his breath before he looked up and instead just gave Moonbreaker a quick nod before asking the princesses to follow. Moonbreaker looked at the crowd and then followed the princesses. The princesses were led to a small platform in the center of the town, the two stood behind podiums while Moonbreaker stayed off to the side.
With a voice worthy of a titan Celestia echoed out to the crowd "ponies of Canterlot. It is with great pride and honor that the pride and joy of equestria, as well as its capital. Will soon be home to the new castle of my sister and I. We both, thank you all for allowing us to make this jewel shine even brighter."
Moonbreaker slowly began to drown out the sound of the crowd and the boom of Celestia, as well as now Lunas, voices as they spoke. He instead just watched the mass of ponies surrounding them. They were all focused on the princesses, jumping and screaming with joy as well as some form of pride in their celebration. Despite all the movement, when a rustle took place in a far tree, Moonbreaker noticed it like a hawk during a hunt. Normally it wouldn't stand out, but the movement in the tree was to large to he a squirrel or the wind. He continued to watch the tree line, and as the wind down drew down and Luna to the center stage, Moonbreaker noticed a strange color come from the tree; and then the ones around it. Something came from the main tree he was watching and then from the others, it wasn't magic but moving fast. He rushed forward and pushed Luna away from where she was and lifted a hoof in time to feel a pain so distant it was barely there.
"There in the trees. After them" yelled one of the pegasi.
When Moonbreaker looked back up, the other objects that had been fired towards the princesses had been stopped. They stayed floating surrounded in a white aurora. It took him a moment to realize he was the one doing it. As he let the objects drop he felt his horn, in its destroyed state, numb for a moment.
"Moonbreaker are you alright" asked Luna pushing herself off the ground.
He looked over at her and shook his head yes, before feeling a sensation in his hoof. When he looked down an object like those aimed for the princesses was lodged in his leg just above his hoof. He couldn't even feel it, even when Luna began to pull it out with her magic. When it was finally dislodged it looked as it nothing happened to it, not a single drop or blood on it, or from Moonbreaker; and yet this went unnoticed.
"An arrow" Celestia said puzzled. "At least it was a bit more subtle this time."
"Even with the magic barriers we cast around ourselves on these outings sister we must remain vigilant. Were it not for Moonbreaker, if we had forgotten the barriers I could have been killed. Which is why I must thank you, Moonbreaker, for acting upon a danger to my sister and self."
_____________________________________________________________________
The ponies that attacked Celestia and Luna were caught within minutes of their attack. From what they said, all of those that had participated in the attack were against the construction of the new castle. They were to be brought to the current castle and thrown in the dungeon for an attack on the princesses. However the princesses and Moonbreaker were to be returned to the castle first before the attackers. On the way back while Celestia and Luna debated on their assailants punishment, Moonbreaker began to drift off into his mind and recall the events that took place. He had acted on instinct and without reason, despite this he felt he did. He protected both the princesses but felt himself do it mainly for Luna. His mind was flooding with dreams he had of her, she had been in his dreams for years, watching him grow up, like a mother almost. He could remember her voice, and her face going back long before his was even ten. Going back to the first time his father had beaten him, the day he first earned his cutie mark. As well as the memories, his feeling for her returned. He did not know who the mare in his dreams was, even after having married her in the most recent dream he had of her. He distanced himself from the two for the rest of the trip, ever anxious to spend some time alone.
Moonbreaker and the Moon.
From one life to another (part 3)
Something has gone wrong. We don't seem to have an archived copy of that chapter. Moonbreaker and the Moon.
As the sun hang low in the evening sky the two princess sisters sat quietly as the discussed about important matters. The eldest being the one to take point.
"The problems in the Crystal empire need to be delt with. And soon. King Sombra must be stopped before he goes any further with his plans of control. If he plans on taking the throne, I'm afraid if we do not act he may be able to do so. However there is also the case of...your ailment" Celestia finished putting enfasis on ailment.
"I've told you I'm fine. Even if I am carrying. The state of equestria at the moment matters more to me. Besides I am still capable of combat and as equestrias greatest warrior I know when and when not im capable of fighting."
Celestia sat in silence at her sisters response. It went with out saying the Luna was a pony capable of besting almost any combatant in nonmagical combat. However with the possibility that her sister is carrying a foal; with it's concievemnt having happened little under a month prior, or at least that's when Celestia walked in on her sister with Moonbreaker still buried within her as they both slept, she didn't want to take the risk. However not only was Luna a master combatant she was very stubborn; and Celestia knew fully well Luna wouldn't give up without a fight. As well any order she could put in place to stop her sister, Luna could just as easily not follow. The two are equalls in ruling equestria so neither can take more control over the other.
"Seeing as how I can't stop you. Then you can acompany me. However you must tell Moonbreaker what were doing and about his foal. And before you say otherwise you can't deny that you are pregnant, the signs are as obvious as ever. At least do that for him, and let him have a say in the matter."
She sighs "as you wish sister. I'll inform Moonbreaker on our mission to the Crystal empire...and about our foal."
Before Celestia could say anything else Luna stood from her seat in the throne room and walked towards the door. As she walked out of the large room she informed the guards that normally watch over the thrones that they may renter, having been ordered to leave while the sisters spoke.
_____________________________________________________________________
The next morning the two sisters had risen earlier than normal to discuss their plan of attack and infiltration with each other. Once they had their plan set, they ordered the captain of the guard to gather up a small team of pegasai to accompany them with an armored carriage. The pegasai would not be coming with them on the assault as the traps Sombra no doubt had set would take most of their lives. Instead they were tasked with protecting the carriage until the princesses returned or until they froze to death, which ever came first. As they trotted along the path towards their carriage the princesses spotted Moonbreaker standing next to their armored, and weapon filled, means of travel. They could see that the leader pegasus within the travel team was talking with him, but he sat a still as a boulder his eyes now focused on the princesses as they approached.
"Moonbreaker what are you doing here? Did my sister not explain what we had planned?"
Celestia sent a glance over to Luna, who was rather obviously avoiding her sisters glare. When Celestia turned her attention back to Moonbreaker a sentence of white letters began to appear in the air. Against the black carriage behind him they stood out more than normal and were easier to read.
"Luna told me you were going on some royal business" the words stayed floating in air for a short time before continuing. "I believed her until I saw this."
He finished by pointing towards the carriage. Celestia could see from the corner of her eye that Lunas ears had folded back against her head as she tried to make herself as small as possible. Celestia again turned the focus of her attention back to Moonbreaker to notice another sentence floating in front of her.
"She also said that she had a surprise for me when you two returned."
After she read the sentence Celestia turned her head entirely to her sister, who was a foot or two away from them both, with the expression a filly would have after getting in trouble.
"Luna. You mean to tell me that...you told Moonbreaker that you had a surprise for him instead of just telling him. That instead of being truthful you lied not only about are business but what I had specifically told you to tell him. And were going to risk you life and that of you..."
Before Celestia could finish, Lunas magic surrounded her mouth keeping it closed. It was apparent as Celestia struggled to speak while Moonbreaker stared towards her curiously that Luna was hiding something. And with a glow of his horn Moonbreaker again let out his opinion.
"If the secret is worth charging of into battle before telling it must not be important."
As the magic faded from Celestias maw she began to speak but her sister again cut her off.
"Yes. Indeed. It's not that important. I promise when we return I will tell you."
Moonbreaker let out a silent sigh before his horn again began to glow.
"I'm coming with you, you know. I don't care if you disagree I am coming with you. Like I said the secret must be that big."
"And as i said its not that imlortant. You could stay with the guards if you accompany us" luna continued with a smile.
"However" Celesria started. "Even with the accompaniment of the guards this is simply too dangerous for you to come with us. We know not of what defenses King Sombra has and neither of us wish to risk an innocent ponies life."
With a look of anger barely apparent Moonbreaker responded.
"I'm not an innocent pony remember. Besides I'm all but immune to magic or have you forgotten of that."
The sisters stared in silence at what had been before them. It was true that, after slight testing when the truth spell either didn't work or wore off faster than normal, Moonbreaker had a distinct resistance to typical magic; however luna never dared test dark magic; nor did Celestia when she found out. And as for him being innocent, it was only Luna the understood for the most part. Not long after they had expressed themselves to each other Luna removed the barrier on his dreams. And a very morbib and descriltive dream of him killing his parents was one of the first things Luna had seen.
"You may accompany us. But stay with the guards at all times. A base camp will be set up near the carriage upon are arrival."
Despite his victory Moonbreaker was far from satisfied as he entered the carriage. Celestia placed her hoof onto Lunas shoulder and asked why she'd agreed to let him go. Her response was less than cheerful.
"I will explain later. Let's just say he used a guilt trip to get his way."
Luna climbed up into the carriage and Celestia soon followed in silence. For the most part the journey was silent, mind the wind and flapping of wings. As they approached their destination Celestia order the pegasai to find a place to land. When they touched the ground initially it was rough, but soon smoothed out. The sound of hooves padding against snow could be herd from inside the carriage; and a moment later the door opened followed by a sharp wind. Moonbreaker stepped out into the snow covered ground and looked off in all directions at the frozen land that lay before them. The sound of spells could be herd coming from the carriage before the princesses emerged; both of them dawned in armor with weapons floating at their sides. With a quick nod from Celestia all the guards detached the front end of the carriage, where a pony might sit, and placed it on the ground. The piece they had taken off was opened by one of the pegasai and a small tent was soon constructed and anchored to the ground by magic. Once the tent was set up the guards stood in order waiting for the princesses command.
"As you all know my sister and I will be completing this mission on are own. Originally you were to stay here until either we both returned. Or until you either die or had no other choice. However with the accompaniment of Moonbreaker that has changed."
A sudden gust of wind caused Celestia to have to silence her speech for a moment. While the guards stood in position, their faces betrayed their stone demenur. Even with the enchantments the princesses too could be seen recoiling from the sudden and sharp cold. Moonbreaker simply pushed it off to the side, barely feeling it anyways, him being more focused on the fact he was forced to stay here. He had nothing against the guards, he merely wished to instead be with Luna while she risked life and limb. However he also knew thst he'd be nothing more than a weight to their efforts, so he reluctantly kept his opinion to himself.
When the wind died down Celestia continued, "as I said with Moonbreaker here the original plan has changed. If my sister and I do not return within six hours, you will take everything with you and leave"
Celestia paused for a moment and turned towards Moonbreaker.
"Is that understood?"
Moonbreaker nodded his head yes. The guards did the same. The two sisters turned towards the snow covered ground and spread their wings. Celestia took off into the snow but Luna remained motionless for a moment; before a letter floated towards Moonbreaker. He gripped it in his magic as Luna took off into the sky after her sister. The parchment was folded into a small square with the words "open if I don't return" written on one of the sides. Much to the dismay of his curiosity he followed the directions; and having nowhere else to put it, placed it in his mane. He looked out in the direction that Luna and Celestia had gone off in and wished for their safe return, whenever that may be.
_____________________________________________________________________
Once Luna caught up with her sister, their treck through the snow to Sombras castle began. As they approached the castle, the corrupting presence it had made itself known with shards of dark crystal jutting out of the ground every few feet. Once the wind had reached speeds to dangerous for the princesses to fly in they were forced to the ground; and the force of the gusts caused even the smallest snow flake feel like a blade against the exposed portions of their bodies. But they continued forward until they felt the warm touch of the Cystal empires magic barrier cross over them. Once on the other side of the barrier the extent of Sombras power and corruption became ever apparent to the sisters. The once beautiful castle now jagged and sharp, covered in dark crystals. The same being said for all of the buildings before them. What caught their attention the most however...was the lack of any resistance.
With a scoff Luna acknowledged the fact "did Sombra truly think some snow would stop us".
"I'm not sure sister. But we still need to be careful. I've a bad feeling we're walking into something"
With a silent, and slightly reluctant, nod Luna agreed. They started to make their to the castle with weapons drawn and alert at all time high. The slightest sound of a pebble being blown down the street caught their attention as they now stood before the dark crystal fortress that is Sombras castle. They remained silent and on alert, even as the massive gate that led inside the castle opened, inviting them inside. Luna held her sword tight in her magic as her sister did the same with her weapon. They stood there waiting for an attack before a voice rang out from within the castle.
"Come on princesses don't keep me waiting. I've already set up the tea and diner pastries. Or would you prefer a much more bloody evening."
The sisters glanced at each other and back to the castle. For a moment both considered the possibility to relax yet neither did.
"Make up your minds when you enter. I won't allow you to change them."
The distant sound of echoing hooves soon followed before vanishing. With a look of worry only just apparent in her face Celestia turned to her sister.
"Perhaps you should go back sister. He is stronger then we thought. At least if this corruption and influence is to go by."
Luna remained a stone as she looked forward into the dark expanse of the castle entrance. Her weapon held tight in her magic as a various number of protective spells were cast upon her. As the final spell was cast her body glisened with the shine of her magical blue aurora. With a deep exhale Luna turned to her sister, righteous fire in her eyes.
"I will not leave my sister to the hooves of this tyrant. We do not abandon each other. We are sisters, and I will not leave you to do this alone."
*sigh* "as you wish Luna. Come then. We have a plague that needs to be delt with"
Just as Luna had done, Celestia casts a variety of spells upon herself. As her horns glow faded her body too gleamed with the shine of her magic.
"Gladly sister" Luna said with a smile.
They both walked forward into the large crystal castle, their weapons drawn and at the ready. Waiting for am attack from any directio. Despite this, the thought that Luna was more focused on however. Was the safety of her beloved.
*Five minutes earlier*
Moonbreaker sat observantky into the now empty trunk of weapons and supplies. His eyes racing between each guard almost as faster as his mind. It was too quiet. even for him. Plus the princesses had already beengone for what felt like 10 minutes.
"What are they planning. What's their motive. I never liked the guard and now I feel they're going to try and get rid of me. Somehow."
His thoughts and self conversations were the only thing keeping him vigilant. Other then that. He's not sure what he'd do. Plus his mind was still focused on the secret Luna had in store for him.
"Why was Celestia so angry at Luna. The secret must no have been that great. But what if it was. I could always find out now. But I want to hear it from her. Or not at all"
As Moonbreaker stayed out on the trunk, the guards under the magically stable, and warm, tent. Shared stories of good times, family, friends, and less then appropriate fantasies about the princesses. Moonbreaker stared at the frozen waist past the guards, the sound of hoof steps behind him muffled by the wind. By the time he heard the steps, a crystal blade was rammed through his chest. As he fell the sounds of the guards being rushed by the attackers echoed in his ear. Three ponies, dark crystal shards jutting out and through them, attacked and killed every single guard.
"Please! No! I have a wife and family plea-glk" the final guard fell with a thud as the crystal blade was ripped from his chest.
As the three attackers turned to head back into the waists. Moonbreaker, a hole through his chest, standing up before them without a drop of blood present. His eyes empty and clear like ice, while his mane seemed to be made of a snowy mist. The snow and ice around him flew up and into the wound and seemingly healed it as he lunged forward. The sounds of shattering crystal, and breaking bones being the only things greater then the wind.
*present time. In the throne room*
"Ah princesses. To what do I owe the pleasure" Sombras toothy grin wide.
"You know what we've came here for Sombra. No games" the tone of Celestias voice being assertive, and clear.
Sombra let out a silent chuckle as he jumped down before them. A scythe at his side.
"So you made your minds on what is to come of you?"
"The same should be asked for you" Luna snapped in return
Sombra snorted at the response then readied his weapon. The sisters did the same.
"Let it be known that it was an honor to have been of your acquaintance your majesties"
Neither of them responded.
"So be it then" he lunges forward
All three of their weapons clash with a metallic bang. Their eyes locked on each other. With a push they're all sent back a few feet as they readied themselves again. They all lunged forward again, their weapons clashing as the all tried to deal lethal blows. The princesses landing minor hits as Sombra does the same, each wound healed by their magics. Within moments the dark room was filled with the sparks of sharpened metal and bolts of magic. The three duelists continued to clash, Sombra noticing a weakness in Celestias stance, he sends her flying into a wall and fires a bolt of dark magic directly at Lunas horn, knocking them both to the ground.
Sombra walked to Celestia with an evil chuckle and grin "poor, poor Celestia. The ruler of Equestria. Has been beaten." He lifts her semi conscious face to his. "Such a shame you won't be witness to what I'll do to your sister. I always was fond of her" with a smile Sombra watches as Celestia falls unconscious. "Sleep tight Celestia. It will be one of you last rests" he then turns his attention to Luna.
She lays on the ground, her sword nearly 20 feet away, with eyes flaming and filled with dark magic. Hallucinations and nightmares flood her mind as she turns to Sombra. His already frightful appearence multiplied 10 fold by the magic.
"Ah Luna. The goddess of the moon. The days midnight gem. I'm sorry for doing this but. I simply have to" his horn charges another bolt of magic. Lunas eyes wide with terror. "Farewell my sweet. See you again soon. When you will be my queen" just before Sombra could fire the bolt Luna fired one herself.
Sombra flew backwards as his bolt of magic was sent into the ceiling. Shards of crystal falling to the ground between him and Luna.
"I...will not be your slave Sombra. Nor...will I ever be your queen!" With force surpassing her previous strikes Luna launched forward to Sombra. Grabbing her sword in her magic and thrusting it in his chest. "This is the day you die you welch!" she pushes it further in as he coughs and gags on black blood.
"You *cough* may have won this battle princess. But you will not win the next" his eyes shifted into a green and purple flame as a blinding multicolored light filled the room. When Luna could see again, everything was gone, the castle and all.
Luna rushed to her sister, the golden armor still visible in the snow. Once at her side Luna shook her sister to wake her. After a few minutes, her attempts paid off.
"Luna...sister what happened? Where is Sombra and the castle. The whole empire even" she asked grogily as she woke up.
"I'm afraid Sombra, in his last moments, took the castle with him. To wherever that may be"
After a few moments of silence the princesses feel themselves succumbing to the cold. They begin their treck back to the carriage. Where the remnants of the attack now remain. Nearly 10 minutes pass before they reach their destination. The bodies of guards, and crystal ponies, lay scattered across the ground. The guards having obvious stab wounds, while the crystal ponies suffered from what looked like a savage animal attack. Broken and even ripped limbs lay on the blood stained ground.
"My goodness...MOONBREAKER!!" Luna screamed as she ran to the horrific scene.
Celestia followed behind her sister. Luna standing in the middle of the scene, no sign of Moonbreaker anywhere. She collapsed to the ground in tears as Celestia fell to her side, wishing to comfort her younger sister.
"I'm sorry Luna...im sorry" Celestia whispered into Lunas ear.
through the sound of sobs, the faint sound of the carriage door opening was heard. Lunas head all but snapped completely around at the noise, her eyes widening in joy to see Moonbreaker, a crystal blade in his shaky hooves, step out of the carriage. He dropped the blade as Luna ran forward and hugged his cold body, now feeling normal amongst the ice and snow.
"Oh Moonbreaker I thought I'd lost you" she pulled him into a deep kiss as his purple furred cheeks flush a bright red. "What happened here. It looks like a beast ran through here" the faint glow of Moonbreakers horn was all but invisible.
"Perhaps we should leave this place before he tells us what happened. As well sister. There is the case of your secret"
Luna nods and gives Moonbreaker another kiss "could we teleport back to the castle perhaps?" Luna asked.
"We will see Luna. We will see"
The two sisters horns began to glow and with their combined magic they reappeared just outside the castle, with Moonbreaker beside them. Having returned home, Moonbreaker told the sisters what happened. He lied about a few parts here and there. Then came for Luna to tell Moonbreaker her secret.
"Moonbreaker...it brings me more joy then you can possibly know to say this. Your going to be a father. We're going to be a family!" Luna ran forward and hugged Moonbreaker tight against her. As her words set in, Moonbreaker experienced a moment of shock, joy, and terror as he blacked out from the news.
Moonbreaker and the Moon.
A sad state of time (Story update)
It makes me sad to say this, but to anyone who may have been keeping up with this story has already seen, I haven't posted a new chapter in a rather long time. I'm sad to say that I've lost the inspiration and can't find a way to continue the story as a whole and I refuse to make a spin off. I will continue this at some point but my hope at the time being is to put out different stories of better quality then I have before. I thank you for all your understandings and hope to see you all again soon.
