"I told you I'd be back"

Me and the Doctor were on a walk in Canterlot, the day was cloudy, and I don't know why, but I had a sense of dread, or perhaps it was foreboding. I dunno, maybe I was just hungry.

"Hey Doc!" I said with a smile. "I'm going to go say hi to Minnuete! Maybe go see Princess Luna. Okay?"

He looked up from his scanner and gave me a quick smile. "Sure, sure... Just be back before dinner, I got a reservation for that new restaurant, the Tasty Treat? And I don't want to be late, I just hope that this doesn't explode on me before I can find the source of that disturbance that popping up..."

"Okay, bye Doc!"

I start walking in the other direction, I heard him mutter something under his breath, it sounded like...

"Stay safe Ginger."

I always try to Doc, besides, what could happen on such a innocent day?

I had just barely gotten out of sight of the Doc when I heard it...

"Ginger, over here!" I looked to my right, there was an alleyway, and I could hear hoofsteps running down it.

"Hey wait!" I called, and ran after them. They went faster. I had to see... I knew that voice, I'm sure I did. They ran through the alley, and I came to a crossway, which way?

"Ginger! This way!"

To the left!

So it went, I ran through the maze of back alleys. Following the voice... That voice. I knew it, but where?

"This way, almost there!"

Almost where?

I started getting my first sense of doubt, the hooves stopped, and I found myself in an abandoned area, a small space between the buildings. It was filled with bits of rubbish, and junk. And... A weird box, it looked like a box built onto the wall, but it was so out of place. I felt... Déjà vù?

I place my hoof gently on the door, and I felt a warm buzz go through me...

My eyes widened. Oh no...

"I told you I'd be back... Ginger." A smug voice said from behind me.

I froze, panicked, stomach churning, head fuzzy, heart pounding, my face going hot... A flood of emotions.

I turn around slowly, the only entrance to this place was blocked by a blue stallion with golden eyes and a golden mane. The way he was looking at me...

I swallowed hard. "Long time no see... Goldie."

"Ah! So you do remember me! I'm touched." He gave me that smile and a wink. "It took me a while to find you, Sweetheart. But you do have a bit of explaining to do. With all these different faces, I'm having trouble telling you apart from you."

He took a step towards me, and I instinctively took a step back. He looked slightly hurt, but it passed in a flicker. "What's the matter Ginger, scared of me now? Had time to think, huh? Well, I guess it was to be expected."

He was... hurt, I could tell. Even though he was still smiling. I mustered up the courage and took a step forwards towards him.

"It's not that, I'm just... Surprised... It's been so long." I admitted, although a part of me was still wary. He walked towards me, and I couldn't read the look in his eye.

He came right up to me, and I backed into the wall, his gold eyes stared deep into my green ones, I felt scared of him. His voice was soft, and almost threatening.

"Why didn't you tell me?" He breathed into my ear.

"What do you-" I started to say, but then he kicked a barrel that was right behind him.

"You know what I mean!" He shouted, and I fell to the ground, cowering.

He huffed for a while, and I was shaking like a leaf, my hooves covering my face as I hunched on the ground.

He took a deep breath. "I'm sorry Ruby. I'm still getting used to this. He knelt down besides me and gently tapped my head. "Please don't be mad. I just... Why didn't you tell me about you and the Doctor?"

I looked up, slightly confused. "What about us?"

He avoided my eyes. "Well, I know you said the two of you weren't a couple, but... You act so close to each other, and, well..."

I can't help it, I start laughing.

He looks at me as if I'm crazy, and I laugh harder.

"You-ha ha- thought- ha ha ha- that we are- ha ha- s-sorry but- ha ha ha!"

It took me a good seven minutes to calm down.

"Sorry, but... I guess I'll explain. I'll tell you the whole story, if... You promise to not get mad at me for not telling you sooner."

He nodded, and I told him, from about Jenny, and how she was made, her story, how she died and came back.

"Wait, you're Jenny? The Doctor is your DAD!"

He looked about to have a panic attack.

"No! No no no no. That's not it!" I sputtered.

"Ah, what a relief. I was worried for a moment there."

"The Doctor is my Grandfather. Jenny's my mom."

And... He lasted three seconds.

He froze. And he looked absolutely terrified. I have no clue why though...

After a while he calmed down, although I could have sworn that as he sat there, rocking back and forth, he was muttering something that sounded like "I kissed the Doctor's Granddaughter, I was dating the Doctor's Granddaughter..." Over and over again.

He stood up, and coughed awkwardly, the he helped me up with a smile and a wink. "Well Ginger, are you still up for... A little adventure? Just the two of us?"

I blush. "I dunno, the Doctor might get worried, and I..."

"Come on, you know the drill, pop out and in with barely five minutes passing, besides, I've got a surprise for you." He waggled his eyebrows teasingly.

I laugh, "Alright Goldie, for you." We walk into his box, he pokes out the door, as if to make sure no one's watching, then he shuts it.

He beckons me closer, and just like old times, we pull the leaver together. I'm filled with excitement as we're off! I look up at the flashing lights of the consul, but I couldn't help but notice that he wasn't looking at the controls anymore.

He was looking at me.

We stop, and I expected him to run out to the doors, but he doesn't. He just leans against the consul and gives me a look.

I look back, trying to match his gaze, but I felt my face go warm. I'm about to ask him what's wrong, when he turns and goes to the door, when he looks back at me he gives me his smile.

"You coming Ginge?"

"Y-yeah, coming, I just... Do you still have my room? I want to change real quick.

He looks at my frilly pink scarf and hat as if seeing them for the first time. "Yeah, go ahead! I'll be right out here."

He leaves.

I run to the room where I used to stay, was it really this. I was surprised when I entered. It looks like the T.A.R.D.I.S. had updated my room. If I had three words to discribe, they would be pink, pink, and pink.

Every conceivable shade of pink. I was so pleased. It's as if my room was dyed pink, the bed, the closet, the walls, the rug, the desk, everything! I went into the closet, grabbed a pink sweater, pink headband, and my silver star pin, I'm glad it was still there. I also grab a dark pink scarf.

When I was about to leave I noticed it. A letter, it looked... Familiar?

It was crisp, neat, and smelled like lemons and a hint of mint. I was about to open it when...

"Ginger! You coming?"

I shove the letter in my pocket. "Coming!"

I run outside and am met by an amazing sight. We were inside a large building, a mall of sorts, all around us were ponies and aliens busily shopping. There were hundreds a shops, and floors, and we were in the very center of it.

Goldie looks me up and down before shaking his head with a smile. "You really have a thing about pink, huh?"

I give him a glare, but he just laughs and holds out his hoof, obviously wanting me to take it, but, for some reason, I hesitate to do so.

Again, he looks a little hurt, he lowers it and we walk in silence for a few feet, the he starts explaining where we are, how it's the most popular shopping center in the galexy, and stuff. But I was hardly listening. It felt wrong almost. Being here with him. The Master, and me. The Doctor's Granddaughter...

I remembered all those moments we had shared, the good, the bad, the adventure and danger, the quiet, romantic moments...

I missed them. But could we feel like that again?

"Ginger?" I blink and see him staring at me, worried. "Are you okay?"

I smile reassuringly. "Of course! Why wouldn't I be?"

He looks away. "If you say so."

He leads me to a restaurant, it's pretty, it's located at the very top, and outdoors. It has grass, trees, flowers and it's night so the stars are out. There are a few lamps, but it's mostly dark.

He leads me to a table, near a river that turns into a waterfall. Everything is so pretty, I feel my heart lighten, and I smile, delighted.

We sit down, the table is small, round and made of stone, and covered in a soft moss-like coating. The candles were shaped like mushrooms and the flames were blue, as blue as Goldie's fur.

We used to both be blue, now... I had changed. I feel a twinge of pain again.

"It's been a long time since our last outing." He said as he casually studied the menu.

"Y-yeah. The last time I saw you was about a year ago."  I blushed and stared hard at the menu. Why did I feel so awkward!

We sat it silence. After a long time I look up from the menu, he's holding it in front of him, but he's not reading it, he's just, staring.

Soon we order food, and it arrives rather quickly. We also eat in silence, the food tastes so good, but it's like ashes to me. I feel, so... Regretful.

Wham

He slams his hoof down on the table, knocking over his dishes and remaining food. I jump back, startled.

"What's your deal?" He shouts at me, and I'm... Afraid. "Why are you acting like... This." He gestured at me.

I stood up. Not letting him frighten me again. "I could ask you the same. Master"
