In an alternate Equestria, Rainbow Dash never does her original Sonic Rainboom, thus not causing the catalyst that originally connected the Mane 6. But a strange pony has a special gift of sight, despite her haywire eyes, or perhaps because of, that allows her to see into other realities. The 6 are still special, and before Nightmare Moon returns they must find that special-ness without help from the boom. Can 6 very different ponies become the friends their counterparts are?
