Nightmare Rising

Looking at her life from the outside she had it all. A kingdom to rule with her sister, a beautiful daughter and a loving husband. But, on the inside was a different story. For some time now she harbored a deep and painful ache. Yes her family loved her very much, but the one thing she truly wanted was the adulation of her subjects like her older sister got.

In the beginning the love of her husband did a lot to mitigate some of the pain for awhile. Then their daughter's birth healed the hole in her heart even more. Still the empty feeling was always still there.

Of course the husband was the first to notice her pain. How could he not. It was the little things he noticed. Like, her smile not being as bright or him noticing his wife sitting and starring at her moon for long periods of time.

Eventually he brought it to the attention of his sister in law. When the Princess of the Sun asked her little sister what was troubling her, the younger one just brushed it off by saying she didn't feel well. That lead to the discovery that the Princess of the Moon was pregnant. With the new found joy of the news she seemed to be back to her old self and all was right once again.

When the news of a royal birth soon to arrive the whole kingdom rejoiced for their lunar princess. The day the newest addition arrived she was met with much adoration. It wasn't long before the old feelings of jealously started to surface for the Moon princess. But this time the Nightmare had taken root. Over the next three years she was on a down ward spiral that nopony could stop.

It had gotten so bad that she had isolated herself from her family. The one most affected was her by then five year old daughter. The littlest Princess would cry for hours in her father's arms simply wanting her mother. They couldn't have known that by this time that their loved one was no more, for the Nightmare had full control. And so on the longest night of the year the Nightmare decided it was time for the eternal night to come.

Her first order of business was to remove the ones she held most precious to her from harm. Even though she was not the same mare anymore, the thought of causing any harm to her husband or daughter turned her stomach. First, she made sure the little Princess was out of the castle by having arranging a sleepover for her at a cousins home. Next would be the hardest confrontation in her warped mind. Her husband.

Her plan was to seduce him then put a powerful sleeping spell on him till the fight she knew that was coming was over. But like all good plans it didn't go as she wanted. Her seduction failed and in a misguided attempt banished her beloved husband to a unknown realm. Knowing what she had just done only added to her pain and misery. Hoping she could figure out how to get her husband back later she left to begin the final confrontation with her older sister.

Of course, history has written the outcome of that battle. But the true cost of said battle is only known by the remaining two royals. One being Princess Celestia and the other being the little Princess who at the tender age of five lost her mother and father on that unforgiving night. Both had hope for the future that atleast they could get a mother and  sister back in a thousand years, but the fate of a father and brother was unkown to them both.

The Royal family has authorized this true accounting so that the ponies of Equestria would know what happened that night so long ago. We will explore indepth the night in question from all four of their views now that both Princess Luna and Prince Shadow Dawn has returned to us. The first chapter will be from the Littlest Princess's point of view. The Prince will follow, then Princess Celestia with Princess Luna's being last.

The point of the book is so that everybody can see that even though the common pony may call them gods they really are not much different than we are. They have the same problems we face everyday. The very same wants and needs. We make them out to be gods. To us they are perfect, but as you will see they are far from perfect. The only real difference between them and us is the enormous power that they wield in the name of protecting Equestria. They can still die just like us.

The one thing that the Royal family hopes that we can learn from this book is this. They are not infallible. In a lot of ways they are just as fragile as we are.

During my work on this biography my own eyes have been opened. The pain that the Royal family they went through during this period is astounding. Losing both of her parents was very traumatic for Princess Moonlight, not to mention the struggles of her parents  reintegration into society. Many are hopeful that Equestria will become stronger with their return. As it should since the Prince is the guardian of our country and Princess Luna has once again taken control of her night's. With the restoration of the family complete, my we have many years of prosperity.

Sidenote

Just so nopony is unprepared. The Prince is not a pony. He is from a race called humans. He does not appear in public much. When the Prince does go out it is only for various functions and prefers to remain in the castle. So if you see him out and about please have the courtesy to not stare and give him the respect he deserves.
