Long ago, before the rule of the two princesses, there were four tribes. The Pegasus tribe, the Unicorn tribe, the Earth pony tribe, and the mysterious Vampire ponies or Vamponies for short. The vamponies had the power to either kill a pony by sucking their blood dry or turn the ponies of the other tribes into one of them by biting them and leaving them. Both are slow and very painful. Some were born vamponies and some were turned. One can tell the difference by there impulse control. The turned have little to no control of their bloodlust. They all have blood-red eyes, sharp fangs, and bat-like wings. Turned unicorns can be mistaken for alicorns. Their magic is heightened by 50% compared to when they were "alive", but, they are usually never as powerful as alicorns. Super-powerful vamponies are usually "Pure-breed" vamponies. "Pure-breed" vamponies are also called "Nobles" and the turned are also called "Spawns".
One cold winter night, over 1000 years ago, a normal unicorn with no name was walking through the Crystal Empire, on her way home to her 100 pet bats. She was shy and had no real family. Before she was even halfway home, a mysterious stallion came up behind her. "Can I help you?" she asked. This stallion looked weak and helpless. "I'm so...HUNGRY." he said. Being the soft mare she is, she felt sorry for him. She asked "What do you...". Before she could finish her sentence, the stallion showed his fangs and blood-red eyes. The mare froze as the stallion bit into her neck. The pain she felt was unbearable. She could barely breathe. Her body felt like it was breaking 1000 times over. As she was passing out, she saw the stallion had bat-like wings. It was a vampony noble. He had dark-grey fur and a snow-whit mane and tail. He had a scary fanged smile on his face as he walked away. The mare passed out as the stallion walked away.
The mare woke up the next evening, surrounded by her bats. "They must have all worked together to get me home." she thought. They all looked shocked. The mare got up and walked to a mirror and saw that she has transformed into a vampony. Her blood-red eyes widened as tears escaped. Her head-bat, Night, lay on her back, like nothing has changed. The mare was more than thankful for the loyalty of her ravens. Since she had no name when she was alive, she wanted one now. She thought for a while as she looked outside to her rose garden under the tree in her yard. A name came to her at that moment. The more it played in her head, the more she liked it. Shadow Rose.
And that was only the beginning...
Shadow Rose's bloodlust only grew stronger as time went on. She sucked many ponies dry for several nights. She was hunted and had to hide in the nearby mountains. She lived in a huge cave with her several ravens as company. Shadow Rose would feed on mostly unsuspecting travelers who come across her cave. She would listen for Night to alarm her of an "intruder" and she starts to sing a charm spell to attract her meal. The spellbound stallions would come into the cave to their doom. Shadow Rose would cry after every meal. She did not choose this. She did not enjoy this. She was suffering through each kill. She watched many ponies slowly and painfully die before her very eyes.
One day, a handsome young pegasus stallion was traveling along the sky above the mountains. He was singing out loud to himself. Shadow Rose heard him. She could not come out to see since the sun was up. She found the stallion's voice quite beautiful. He came into the cave to rest his wings and she saw a very handsome, strongly-built Pegasus with red fur and a black mane and tail. He wore his mane in a ponytail (no pun intended). He had a large saddle bag on his back. He also had a guitar case. He sat down and started to play the guitar. Shadow Rose hasn't heard music like this in the mounths she has been turned. She listened to the music for a while until she started to sing. The young stallion looked to Shadow Rose's direction and smiled. He finished, stood up, and walked toward the shy vampony mare. "Hello." he said. "Hello..." said Shadow Rose. "I'm Thunder Note." the stallion introduced himself. "Who are you?" he asked. " Um...Shadow Rose..." said Shadow Rose. "Your voice is quite lovely" Thunder Note complimented. "So is yours." answered Shadow Rose. "Thank you." said Thunder Note. "Could you please step into the light so I may see your face?" he asked Shadow Rose. She hesitated. "I cannot." said Shadow Rose. "Why not?" Thunder Note asked. "The sun." Shadow Rose answered. Thunder Note was so confused. "What about it" he asked. "Wait for the moon to rise and you will find out." Shadow Rose answered.
Later that night, Thunder Note was waiting by the entrance of the cave for Shadow Rose to come into the moonlight. He played his guitar and sang with Shadow Rose all day and, somehow, he fell in love with this mysterious mare and her beautiful voice. He was in for a surprise. Shadow Rose came into the moonlight and revealed a young unicorn mare with light-tan fur, carmel mane with snow-white streaks, blood-red eyes, bat-like wings, sharp fangs, and a black rose for a cutie mark. Thunder Note was shocked for a moment, but, he walked up to to Shadow Rose and kissed her cheek. Shadow Rose was shocked. "You are not afraid?" she asked. "No, I am not." said Thunder Note. "Why?" Shadow Rose asked. "If you wanted to kill me, you would have done so sooner." Thunder Note answered. Shadow Rose relaxed and kissed Thunder Note's soft lips and he kissed her back. The sound of happy ravens sounded throughout the cave.
Thunder Note had to return home to the Crystal Empire, but, he promised to return to see Shadow Rose as often as he could and for several weeks, he kept his word. Then, tragedy struck when King Sombra took over the Crystal Empire and all crystal ponies were enslaved, including Thunder Note. Shadow Rose waited for a long time for her lover to return. Then, one night, she saw the two princesses flying toward the Crystal Empire and decided to follow. She saw the damage Sombra had done to her old home and witnessed all of the crystal ponies, along with Thunder Note, disappear beneath the ice as Thunder Noth cried out for Shadow Rose, declaring his love for her. She flew back to her cave and cried in there for so long, it felt like years. Her ravens stayed with her and comforted her. She restarted to feed on travelers again and her blood-lust got worse. She sucked everypony drie every chance she got. It would be centuries before she would sing again.
