Bioshock: Lost in the Sea
A chance encounter with Titans of Industry
"Hello? Sunset? Are you there?" Twilight scribbled furiously in her journal she used to communicate with Sunset Shimmer "You haven't written to me in a long time." Twilight sat the book back on her writing desk, waiting for a response.
Usually Sunset would have normally written to her about school or how her lessons in friendship are going, but this was highly concerning.
It's been over five months since her last entry from Sunset telling her about a trip she was going on. This concerned Twilight more because she waited so long to find out what happened.
The more she thought about it the more worried she became. "Maybe," she thought out loud " they forgot about me?" The thought of her friends forgetting about her also plagued her mind. No! Of course they wouldn't... Would they? She pondered this. Well they do have other Twilight there, they could have replaced me... With me.
Shaking my head that's ridiculous, even for me. I'm not that... self-centered right?
Giving up on hope of hearing back tonight, I got up from my desk and made my way to my door away from all these confusing thoughts. Maybe Spike has made some food as I've been staring at that book for a better part of 3 hours. Waiting for a reply. I slowly start to think about what plans my friends here in Equestria might have, Pinkie probably has some crazy party planned for some unlucky mare or stallion who happened to walk by funny. Applejack is working the fields, she really needs a break... Just not to a spa. Rarity is probably working on a new dress. Rainbow practicing new moves for the Wonderbolts. And Fluttershy is probably drinking tea with Discord right now. Looking at the clock it's half past four. And I'm bored out of my mind.
As I left I heard a slight buzzing sound, stopping in my tracks and hurrying back into my room. I saw the book glowing and vibrating, the pages a light yellow meaning Sunset replied to my entry. I hurried and flipped the front of the book open, reading and skimming until I came across our latest entries.
" I am not this Sunset you are asking for neither will I fall for your poor excuse for a magic trick. I've seen plenty of vagabonds to know what a con is. And I will not stand by as taint my fair city with your lies and deceit."
As I gazed upon the words on the page two things became apparent. First, this wasn't Sunset. Second, his writing style was really something else. I say he because looking at different legislatures and laws being written up by the bureaucracy of the government you realize what's written by males and females. This was a male.
I raise my pen to the paper " I'm sorry sir but this is not a trick I use magic to communicate between these two worlds. I do not wish I'll intent toward you or your city. I only wish to find my friends." I finish trying my best to sound as cordial as possible trying not to offend the man. A few seconds later his response.
" I truly appreciate your attempts at dissuading me from my original assumptions, but I am afraid without proof I can't believe in this "magic" you speak of. I'm a firm believer in science and rational thought. I cannot say I have seen this trick before but I can with science and technology. But I am willing to go on a little bit of faith, until I am proven right as I sure I will. I must ask in lieu of the commonplace, may I ask you your name?"
" Twilight Sparkle, Princess of Friendship, and a Princess of Equestria. And who might you be?"
" I am the founder of the greatest city in the world. A city where people can pursue innovations in Science, Art, Medicine. Where every drop of sweat is for yourself and my great city, pulling along on the great chain of industry . Where you won't be subject to adhering to limits to your imagination so you are free to create. My city of Rapture. I am Andrew Ryan..."
Andrew Ryan sat the book down on his desk as he stood looking out at his glorious city.
The year was 1958 in October. Two months left til New Years. Everything was set and ready for the festivities. Atlas and his thugs lay at the bottom of a gorge with no chance of escaping. Things can finally move forward and we can set new foundation for a new age of innovation and progress. Starting with the catalyst and a right push in the direction we need.
He grins "Soon we will have everything in order and nothing will be able to take my city away from me."
He steps back and sits at his desk. He moves the book to the side and presses the button on his intercom to his secretary's desk " Ahem, can you send in the assistant structural engineer and security supervisor for the South Wards." He releases the the button to hear a barely audible " Yes sir." Before it went dead. He was about to pull back his hand when he presses it again " Oh and please bring me some of that tea you always make, it's rather delicious." He states flatly as his doors open up reveling to of his brightest employees. "Yes Sir!" Was all he hear as he muted he's intercom. The two employees stood side by side one wearing blue coveralls with orange trim her blond hair pulled into a ponytail. And the other wore a security uniform her Rainbow colored short hair didn't bother Mr. Ryan a bit as he's saw it as a personal cosmetic change to make her stand out. And a second later a third girl entered his office with a saucer with a tea cup,pot, cream and sugar and poured him a glass to the way he likes it, as she mesmerized it by heart ,and left the room again without a word.
He looked at his two workers and gave a warm smile " Is everything ready to begin?"
" Yes Mr. Ryan Sir!" They both answered in unison.
" Good, You may leave." He says as he turns picking up his tea and walks back towards the window of his office. Both Applejack and Rainbow leave without a word. Leaving him to brew.
" So the infamous Twilight Sparkle huh? What would you do with a invitation to my fine city. We all make choices but I wonder what you will choose." He sips his tea and stares at Persephone wondering if his project is complete yet.
