MLP: Tales of Oración
Ch.1: The Fall!
Ok. When they said flight school, I thought there would be a bit more, ya know, flying. What's a pegusus gotta do to catch some air around here?! Instead, I've been stuck with all these other classes... I mean, isn't the point to teach us how to fly?
I sighed and laid my head on my desk just as a piece of paper slid into my line of vision. Lifting my head, I was met with the sight of a bright red F stamped finely at the top of my latest quiz. "Great..." I muttered. Knowing my lousy track record with grades, there was no getting out this one. I was sure to hear more about it at home.
I scanned the page to see if the teacher had written any comments and to no surprise, she did. 'Eve, Colonel Waffle is not a famous figure from pony history.' Ok, so maybe I was a bit hungry.
My eyes wandered over to the pony in front of me. Tremolo Bow. Local know it all and teacher's pet. She was yellow with a blue and orange mane, and a red and green tail that looked somewhat like a flame. Neither of us had a cutie mark yet, but I had always assumed hers would be a book or something since she was such a book nerd. She had made an A on her quiz. No doubt about it. I didn't even have to look.
I mentally sighed as we were dismissed and stood up, only to be confronted by Tremolo herself. "Another bad grade Eve? Honestly, you need to work harder. It's not all about flying. You need to know this stuff." She lectured.
Not that I listened. I had been forced to have tutoring sessions with Tremolo ever since my grades dropped below a C, so needless to say I had heard a lot of it. "Yeah yeah. Speaking of which, don't you have some sort of studying to do?"
She rolled her eyes. "Just because I get good grades doesn't mean I study all the time. And studying's not a bad thing. We'll talk about this in our next session. You need to try Eve. You're smarter than you realize." With that, the pegusus gathered her belongings and left the room.
I was about to do the same when I heard quiet laughter off to my side. I looked to see two colts, Bolt and Jolt, having what seemed to be a hushed conversation. I cast them a suspicious glance before leaving the classroom myself. Bolt and Jolt were brothers who were known in the class for being serial pranksters. Not the good kind either. They'd often get other ponies in on their plans to try and humiliate their targets. Nothing but jerks if you ask me.
As I left the school building, I noticed Tremolo off to my side sitting on a bench. Like always, she was reading a book. 'So much for not studying all the time.'
"Hey Eve. We need to talk to ya." Said someone from behind me. I turned to come face to face with Bolt and Jolt yet again.
I sighed. "What do you guys want? We just got out of class and I want to fly so make it quick. You're clouding my air space"
Bolt snickered. "It's about that tutor of yours. We heard she's a pretty weak flyer. That's why she gets special flying lessons and can sit out from flight class."
I raised an eyebrow. "So?"
The two laughed. "So, since she likes teaching you lessons, we figured we'd teach her a lesson instead."
This gained my attention. I cast a worried look over at Tremolo. "What are you talking about?" My question came out much more like a demand.
They looked a bit confused by my change of tone, but didn't seem startled in the least. "Why don't you see for yourself?" The two pointed in her direction as they laughed.
I looked over to see two fillies. These two I recognized quite well. Static Streak and Summer Gleam. They had lifted the bench Tremolo had been sitting on and flown it well over the edge of Cloudsdale. Tremolo was clinging to the bench, eyes closed and shaking with fear.
I faced the two colts in anger. "Are you crazy?! She could get hurt!"
They just shrugged it off. "Relax. Those two are awesome flyers. If she falls, they can just catch her. Besides, it's what she gets for being so annoying."
"You guys are real jerks!" I exclaimed before running in the direction of Tremolo. "Hey! Bring her back! It's not funny!" I shouted over to the two holding the bench, but they just laughed it off.
"Pfft. Oh yeah. Real funny Eve. A prankster stopping a prank. Come on." Static laughed as she took one hoof off of the bench. That was a mistake. As soon as she did, the whole thing shook and Tremolo lost her grip, falling fast.
"Tremolo!" Before I knew it, I found myself leaping over the edge of the cloud and diving down towards her. They were right. She really was a weak flyer. I dove down, gaining as much speed as I could manage, but it still took a good five seconds before I could catch up to her. Instead of spreading herself out so the wind could catch her, she had curled up in fear, causing her to plummet downwards at a faster pace.
Reacting fast, I wrapped my arms around her waist and opened my wings slightly. I started to pull up, but when I looked up, we were too close to the ground. Instead, I angled myself as best I could before pulling in my wings and bracing for impact.
We hit the ground hard, tumbling for quite a distance due to the momentum before sliding to a stop in a grassy field. Where exactly that field was, I had no clue. I was in too much pain at the moment to tell.
After taking a second to clear my head, I attempted to sit up. Luckily, I hadn't broken anything, but I was more worried about Tremolo. I released my grip on her and checked her, but it seemed she was even luckier than me. She didn't have a single injury.
"Ugh. That wasn't awesome..." I muttered before tapping Tremolo's side. "Hey. It's ok. You're ok now."
At that, she instantly shot up and looked around. "H-huh?! Eve?! I'm alive... Did you just save my life?"
I smirked. "Of course. I wouldn't be able to call myself a pegusus if I couldn't perform a simple emergency landing."
She let out a relieved sigh. "Oh please. There was nothing simple about that. I knew you loved flying, but I had no idea you were that good..." She then paused. "Wait... Eve. Is that a cutie mark?"
"Huh?" I looked down at my flank to see that a strange white star accompanied by several smaller stars now occupied the space. I smiled widely. "I don't know what it means but it looks so cool!"
"Well it wasn't there before you saved me right? Maybe it has something to do with that." She paused, her expression forming into a nervous smile. "Thanks by the way..." She suggested, thanking me in the process.
I shrugged. "Well I wasn't just gonna let you fall. My mom would kill me if I lost my tutor."
Tremolo frowned and gave me a playful shove. "Yeah, cause that's a reason." She said sarcastically.
I laughed nervously. "Alright, fine. You're my friend. Ok?"
She smirked. "Oh, wait. What was that you said? I'm your..." She asked in a very teasing manner.
I rolled my eyes. "I said I'm your friend. Don't push it or I might just change my mind about helping you with flying."
Tremolo's eyes lit up. "What? Really?! You'll do that for me?!"
I nodded. "If we're gonna be friends, I can't have you sinking like a rock all the time."
She smiled and hugged me. "Thank you'll much! You have no idea how annoying it is to be privately taught flying lessons!"
I thought back to class this morning. "I think I may have some idea..." I sighed. "Anyway, where are we?"
Tremolo scanned the area. "Hmm... Well I think Cloudsdale was supposed to be heading towards Ponyville. Maybe we're somewhere near there? Why?"
I unfolded my wings. "I've had enough flying for today."
Oddly, she started laughing. "What? What's so funny?" I asked. To be fair, we had just crash landed a few minutes ago.
She smiled. "Oh. It's nothing. I just never thought I'd hear you say that about flying."
I gave her a playful shove. "Hey. I don't fly all the time."
Tremolo smirked. "And I don't study all the time."
I sighed. "Ok, ya got me there." I replied as we both shared a laugh. "So... Any idea where Ponyville is?"
Tremolo looked troubled. "Umm..."
I shook my head. "I'm in sooo much trouble..."
