I was awoken from one of the many coughing fits that had plagued me since I became ill with what I assumed was a cold.
“Ugh... I guess it's time for a new dose of my cough medicine.” I thought, an annoyed scowl plastered upon my face as I tried to get out from my bed.
Unfortunately, my arms were restricted to my sides by something. Noticing this fairly quickly, I opened my eyes to attempt to find the culprit of my binding. My vision met by a blood stained, padded material instead of my usual pillow.
“Aaaarrrrgggg, give me a break!” I cried out as I rolled onto my back.
Now paying more attention, I noticed that my breathing and voice was muffled by something. I reluctantly looked down to find myself in a straight jacket with a mask covering my mouth. The room that I was in had blood stained padding all along the walls, obviously to stop prisoners from hurting themselves.
“Needlestorm, can you give me a break please?” I said through the mask to the best of my ability before my cough returned with a vengance.
“Well, I guess if I'm gonna get anywhere I'll have to wait for Needlestorm.” I thought as i stared at the ceiling.
My mask was beginning to make me struggle for every breath as it was squeezing the life out of me, reluctantly I slowly passed out of consciousness thanks to a lack of oxygen.
(Sometime Later)
I awoke slowly from a fairly refreshing sleep too see an oxygen mask against my mouth. I attempted to get up but was unfortunately stopped by what seemed to be various straps that I couldn't see. As I attempted to break free I unexpectedly heard a bird chirping in the room somewhere.
“How did a bird get into Needlestorm’s world?... I hope it manages to escape from this place.” I thought in sympathy while it's squawking slowly faded away from the room.
I quickly noticed I was breathing lot better. My assumption was that the oxygen mask she gave me had a kind of medicine to help me with my cold. I suddenly felt a cold chill for no apparent reason before I heard somepony coming into the room.
“Well, you got very severe pneumonia somehow. Could you please tell me how you got it?” Needlestorm asked while moving closer to me.
“The doctors lied to me again. Thank you for telling me that... anyways, I might know how I got it.” I replied with a sad expression on my face.
“ No matter, it might kill you without any medical treatment.” She said with a noticeable tone of concern in her voice.
“Why are you concerned about me? If I get better from your medical treatment, i have to face you every night.” I exclaimed with a confused expression on my face.
“Because, I have friends that are watching you during the daytime. They told me about your struggles to trying live with our species peacefully. I thought you were harming ponies, so I was sorta of haunting you to try and kill you via depression or insanity.” She admitted sadly, one of her hands was lightly touching one of my hands.
Unfortunately, the medical treatment couldn't stop the coughing from my illness entirely. After a few minutes of coughing in agony, I finally stopped . I didn't know why she was helping me, or why she was concerned about me. I needed to watch her every move incase she tried something to me.
“Are you ok?” She asked, apparently still concerned as she continued to gently rub one of my hands with her hand.
“I’m ok, but I think these straps are making it harder for me to breath. Can you remove them for me, please?” I replied with a hint of hope in my voice.
“Sure thing, just, please don’t try anything to hurt yourself.” Needlestorm said cautiously before removing her hand from one of my hands.
I was dumbstruck by her act of mercy. She quickly and carefully removed my straps one by one. Everytime, she removed one of the straps from my body I could breath bit easier. I was still puzzled why she was being so nice and willing to do that for me. Finally she removed last strap that was holding me down.
“Thank you for removing the straps were holding me down. For the record, I’m smaller and weaker than every type of pony species, plus I’ll not harm them unless they harm me first.” I stated honestly with a mixed set of emotions expression on my face.
Needlestorm quickly noticed my mixed expressions and went back to rubbing one of my hands.
”I know what you’re thinking. Why am I helping you? And why I’m very concerned about you. Please, I promise you can trust me this time.” Needlestorm pleaded with an noticeable tone of sadness in her voice.
“If I give you the benefit of doubt, can you give me break and go easy while I am in your care?” I said grimly with a defeated sigh.
“Of course, thank you for giving me this chance, you’ll not regret it.” Needlestorm cooed happily, hugging me like a python.
“First thing... could you please stop... hugging me like that... I think i'm gonna pass out...” I asked awkwardly between each strained breath.
“Sorry Waylon, I guess I don't know my strength.” She answered shyly, after she ended her hug and backed away.
After I got my breath back, I looked up to find her with a deep red blush that covered a large portion of her face.
“Why is she blushing?” I thought, “Does she have a crush on me?” I never expected her to like me.
“Do... do you like me ?” I asked hesitantly, not wanting to set her off into some sort of rage if I was wrong.
She thought for a moment before responding, “Y-Y-Yes, but you probably hate me now after what I put you through.” Needlestorm stuttered out softly, her ears falling down in apparent shame.
“Nah, I’m used to ponies trying to kill me now. I have to warn you though, I already have an overprotected marefriend so I hope you don’t mind having to share me with her.” I exclaimed with a chuckle.
“Of course I don’t mind sharing you with her. But who is she?”
“Good, she’s Redheart. She’s a nurse at The Ponyville Hospital. She was working during day shift, but unfortunately at the time the hospital was running low of employees that were working during night shift. So they changed her shift to night, naturally she was mad at them when they did it.” I answered sadly.
“Dang, you got lucky there”
“I know right, I'm guessing you are curious as to how we’re couple?” I replied with a smirk on my face.
“Yup.” Needlestorm replied, a look of interest on her face.
“One day, I was bandaging three little fillies up from their one of many attempts to get their cutie marks. This attempt, they decided to try and get their cutie marks in thorn cutting. After I bandaged them up, I figured I should take them to The Ponyville Hospital for the hospital staff to exam them. She was working at the hospital front desk on this day. She seemed to be impressed with my concern for them and we started to talk each together while the doctors were examining them. After a few days of talking, we started to date. We quickly discovered we had similar interests and likes. We‘re unseperable now.” I said proudly, a nostalgic smile across my face.
“Wow, I really did enjoy listening to you but I'm going to have to cut this short, we need to get you to the hospital now.” She said reluctantly as she rose from her seated position.
“I have one last question for you before we go. How did a bird get in your world?” I asked with a curious expression.
“She’s my pet. Please, Last Song, can you come here?” Needlestorm said motherly, looking toward the room’s entrance.
After few seconds passed, I heard Last Song reply back with a cute chirp before she flew in the room and landed on one of Needlestorm’s shoulders. She was bigger than a normal hummingbird plus her beak, feather tips and tail tips were glass needles. Her single eye was a reddish pink color with a cat like pupil and her body feathers were sickly green cascaded into a blood red. In a short summary, she looked like she was pieced together by a mad scientist.
“Uh she’s adorable but kinda evil looking, Needlestorm,” I admitted honestly with a slight tone of fear in my voice.
“Over time, you’ll get used her being in your life if we do make a herd.” Needlestorm cooed encouragingly while petting Last Song on her head.
“I’ll put you to sleep, you will wake up in your home. After which I'll take you to hospital and meet your marefriend.” She promised motherly before kissed me on my forehead.
I promptly fell into a deep sleep soon after she kissed me.
I was suddenly awoken by a coughing fit. I realized after recovering that I was wrapped tightly in my custom weighted blanket. It was a gift from my marefriend, she had it made with her cutiemark across the top of it while the rest of it was a thick fuzzy fabric. Red’s nightstand lamp suddenly turned on and caused me flinch little bit.
“Sweetie, is that you?” I asked hopefully.
“Sorry no, it’s Needlestorm. I’m here for take you to hospital and meet your marefriend.” Needlestorm answered back.
“Ok, can you give me a minute to put on some clothes please?” I asked, vaguely mortified that she had seen me naked.
“I already dressed you and wrapped you in your weighted blanket tightly. I kinda wante to carry you to the hospital...” She replied nervously with a slight shyness in her voice as one of her hands pushed on my chest to keep me from getting up.
I reluctantly turned my head toward her voice and found her nervously playing with a thread of her mane with one of her fingers. I had to admit she was acting adorable.
“Sure, you can carry me to the hospital, but this isn't gonna be a common occurrence.” I said, looking her right in the eye.
She gave me no response, instead Needlestorm came to my side of my bed and gently picked me up with my blanket like a newborn baby. After she puled me up, she put her wings around me like an extra blanket. I noticed her wings were normal pegasi wings looking and their feathers were reddish pink that lead into white.
“How come you changed your wings into normal pegasi wings?” I asked sleepily before letting out a yawn.
She gave me a cute giggle.
“My species can transform into normal versions of ourselves in order to blend into a crowd of ponies.” She answered, directing a smile at me.
Having no other questions, it didn't take long for me to fall back to sleep in her embrace.
I drowsily woke up to two familiar voices talking to each other. I recognised knew one voice’s owner was my sweet Red, but I couldn't figure out which of the two was talking.
“Do you agree with our deal?” Red asked, irritation lacing her voice.
“What kind of deal? And is my sweetie irritated?” I thought to myself.
“Yup, I only can be with him when you’re watching us.” The other familiar voice answered.
I silently tried to cuddle more into my sweethearts embrace, assuming that she was holding me, unfortunately she noticed my failed attempt.
“We’ll talk more about you wanting to join us as a future herd later.” Red while tightening her embrace on me.
“That's fine... I guess I'll see you later.” The other voice replied nervously before Red shut our front door.
I waited for a few minutes for talk my sweetie.
“Are you ok, honey?” Red asked after she put me onto our bed.
“I’m better than normal after my nightmares, why?” I asked honestly with a raised eyebrow.
“Needlestorm told me anything about what she did to you and that she’s wanting to create herd with us.” She responded with a grim while undoing her hair bun, letting her mane down.
“You almost sent me to The Ponyville Asylum when you thought I was going crazy.” I replied jokingly as I struggled get out of my weighted blanket.
“You know I'm Sorry for that, honey. I’m going to go get your medicine for your pneumonia and glass of water for you.” She said before walking in our bedroom's bathroom.
I quit my attempt to get out of my blanket fairly soon after she left, realising I was getting nowhere. As I relaxed back I fell into yet another coughing fit.
“Are you ok, Way?” Red asked as she turned off our bathroom’s sink and came out from bathroom.
“I’m ok and thank you, Red.” I asked as reassuringly as I could while looking her coming towards me.
Red carefully gave me a pill and I greedily drank the glass of water. Red put the empty glass on her nightstand and turned off her lamp, after which, she got in our bed with me.
“I don’t quite trust her yet, but I’ll try this herd idea with her.” She admitted while unwrapping my weight blanket from me. When my blanket was removed, I saw I was not wearing my pajamas, at least, my shirt was gone. My chest got a various bandages over it. I became concerned about how I got bandages on my chest apparently Red noticed my concern.
“Your bandages are covering the wounds caused by Needlestom’s medical equipment.” Red answered my unasked question sadly while embracing me.
“Thank you for explaining.” I replied with a smile.
“Your welcome.” She replied back with a giggle.
Shortly after, she and me fell to sleep.
