Breathing Life Into Death
Chapter 1 : Alive Again
Load Full StoryYou awake with a deep inhale of oxygen. The dark gloom of a abandoned lab are your surroundings. The sting of the ice cold operating table kissing at your back and the smell of mold and rot fills your nostrils. You slowly bring your hand up to your face, your right hand is stitched at the wrist. A pale green coloration on your hand and the rest of your arm a dirty white with a tinge of yellow. You watch intently as you open and close your hand. Laying it back down to the steel table, you scan the room the room with your eyes. Old Broken machines with broken levers, buttons, and gauges fill the room. they are covered in copious amounts of dust and cobwebs. You move the fingers on your left hand in a rubbing motion against the metal of the table, craning your head your head up, looking down at your body. A large section of your flesh was pulled off to the side with a pair of pliers, your heart slowly beating inside of a small copper cage. Copper wires entangled throughout your intestines and ribcage. In certain sections of your veins you are able to see a soft and steady blood flow.
You groan at the sudden sight, a mixture of distress and irritation. You shift your body to stand up, as you arise your spine and shoulders pop an crack. The loose piece of flesh sways from side to side as you attempt to get to your feet. Gradually your hooves touch the floor, even more popping from your legs can be heard. Your legs begin to shake and give way, you hit the hard cobblestone floor with a loud thud. You let out a loud yell in anger an agony, you gradually get back to your feet. Stumbling awkwardly around the room, you grab onto the side of another near by table. Lifting your head up, you notice a mirror in front of you. putting more pressure on your arm you manage to stand yourself up and look at yourself. On the right forearm there is another row of stitches and staples along it, holding the side in place. Your right thigh is sewn onto the rest of the limb, witch happens to be pale green in color. Nine inches away from the bottom of the left hoof is another ring of stitches, the hoof being the same texture of green as your other leg. On the underside of your left wrist is a vertical line of stitches, at least seven inches long. you had two screws protruding out of both sides of your neck. A long line of stitches runs along your left eye. Your eyes, oh your magnificent eyes, so golden and as bright as a full moon. You raise a hand to your head and run it through your pitch black hair, as black as the soul of King Sombra himself. Lightly brushing your fingers against your stitched on right ear. Groaning in discontent, you see your teeth, slightly yellow stained and some made of copper. The rest of the more fleshy parts of your mouth are a heather grey, such as your tongue and gums. You gaze down at your hands , shaking and trembling with anger. Knowing that the outward appearance you see is wrong. You know you being alive is wrong.
In the sudden rage you ball both of your hands into fist and bring them violently down on the mirror. With a loud crash the mirror is shattered and spread all across the floor. Shouting angrily you grab the closest steel dolly, as you pick it up all of the scalpels and other assorted lab equipment. Bellowing out in pure anger you throw the dolly across the lab as though it were as lite as a feather. Shaking your head you eventually come out of your rage. You scan the room looking for any way out, the only way you see seems to be a large wooden door. Grabbing the door handle, you push and pull to the point with witch the handle breaks out of its bearings. You just drop the handle and push the door open hesitantly. Jumping back as it creeks open as slow as though a spirit had taken hold of it. Crossing the threshold a cool breeze runs through your fur, open chest cavity, and...nether regions. There is a long winding stair case going nowhere but up, windows along it with moonlight leaking in, lighting your way. Carefully step by step, you make your way up the stairs and stare out to the stars every time you pass an open window. As you reach the upstairs you are greeted by an open hall with many overturned tables and silverware, plates, and many empty wine bottles. The open hall might as well have been just like the lab, the whole room filthy, empty, forgotten, just like you. You felt as though you were in danger, so you creep silently and slightly crouched, lowering your head down to your shoulders. The only thing that truly muffled your steps was the silken walk way. When you reach the end of the room the only thing in your way, keeping you from entering the outdoors, two massive wooden doors. The wood was old and faded to the color of grey, the metal holding it together was rusted and brittle. You look behind you, almost afraid to leave the sanctuary of emptiness and dark secrets. Nothing truly holding you back from leaving. Placing both of your hands on the door, you shove the doors wide open with all your brute force and strength.
An outside breeze slides around your body and blows the dust on the floor at the entrance of the large complex, creating a large dust cloud behind you. You carefully press your hoof against the grass, as though someone else would test the water at a pool. Eventually you find yourself fifteen feet outside of the building and observing the night sky and the stretch of forest nearby. The moon was so bright you could see everything around you. The stars astonish your imagination, rocking your head back and forth, staring into the heavens. Eventually you loose interest and shuffle over in the direction of the forest. You briskly wander through the forest , everything around you seems to be repetitious. The trees all looking the same, every rock and bush looking identical to their counterparts. You eventually come to a stop, everything utterly silent. You fall straight down onto your rump with a audible thud, and lean against a tree. A yawn escapes your lips, along with an annoyed groan afterwards. Your eyelids growing heavy, your breathing becoming lighter and calm. Eventually you fall fast asleep.
You awaken to a loud and feminine voice, everything around you became black as the hair upon your brow. Its as though you were floating in a purgatory of abyss. This does nothing but upset and scare you. You find yourself crying out in terror and anguish. Eventually you feel calm and at peace, almost as if you were being cradled by and other worldly force. A sensation over comes you, a feeling as though somepony was wrapping their arms around you in a motherly and caring manner.
"Sleep well my child."
Your eyelids clinch and blink rapidly as the blinding light caresses your face. You lift your arm up to shield your golden eyes from the harmful rays. After a few moments of sitting against a tall Oak tree, you gradually stand up. An odd feeling runs through your body, almost an empty feeling.
*gruuuuuuuugh*
The odd sound emanated from your stomach. Not really understanding the meaning behind the odd occurrence, you dismissed it as though it wouldn't happen again. You walk through the woods leaving a trail of large hoof prints in your wake. Your eyes scan the Forrest, taking in all of the activity around you. Birds chirping they're harmonious tune, the wind shaking the leaves softly. It's comforting in a way, but was very short lived. You saw something move silently through the trees. You stopped immediately and lowered your body. Creeping forward, you ducked behind a bush. Softly moving your hand to push the leaves away, you hear another noise. You hesitate, but curiosity takes hold of you.
Your eyes widen at the sight before you. A creature that looks so similar to you, just different. It's crouched near to a stream, splashing the water about in an odd manner with something in it's hands. There is something made of wood filled with cloth. Your brows narrow at the odd sight. The creature is wearing the cloth, it's fur was a lively green. The mane was red and looked to have been unwashed. You move out from the bushes quietly not to spook the being before you. Upon closer inspection you see it has quite a slender figure, unlike your bulky form. Inching closer you freeze when you see its' ears twitch.
"Hello? is, like somepony there?"
The strange being looks over its' shoulder at you. You both stare at each other for what feels like hours until it stands to look at you. you now recognize the shape of its body, it is a she. "Hey man, what are you doing way out here?" she said while gradually walking closer to you.
