RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The school bell rang. All of the ponies fled out of the room before you could say "Super Speedy Cider Squeezy". Tidal Wave got up from her seat and put on her bags.
"Hey Raindrop! Wait up!" Tidal shouted to her friend standing at the door.
"Hurry up then!" Raindrop replied jokingly. Tidal walked over to her friend and they exited the classroom.
"So?" Raindrop asked as they stood at their lockers, "Are you excited or what? Tomorrow's the last day of school before spring break!"
"Yea I am!" Tidal answered and grabbed a few books from her locker.
"Oh if it isn't Rainflop and Tidal Weirdo!" Roseluck said teasingly as she past the two and knocked the books out of Tidal Wave's hoofs. Tidal blushed with embarrassment and bent down to pick her books up.
"Hey!" Raindrop intervened, "Don't you have some 'Miss-Prissy-Know-It-All-Diva-Pagent' to get to?"
Roseluck sneered at Raindrop and replied, "Actually, for spring break, I'm going to Canterlot to attend a royal dance hosted by Princess Cadence herself!" Raindrop rolled her eyes as Tidal Wave stood up with her books in proper place.
"P-princess Candence? What ab-bout Princess Celestia?" Tidal asked.
Rose Waved her mane back and stood in a proud pose, "Well, it's a crystal themed dance, so it's hosted by the crystal princess, obviously. Although, with all those books you read, I thought you would already be nerdy enough to know that."
Raindrop was furious, she stood about an inch away from Rose's nose and shouted, "HEY! LEAVE US ALONE! YOU DONT WANT YOUR PRISSY LITTLE MANE TO BE MESSED UP DO YOU?"
Rose giggled and simply said, "Oh, you don't want to be suspended again, do you Rainflop?" Tidal Wave saw the situation's tension rising. She didn't want her friend to get in trouble. So she tapped her hoof on Raindrops shoulder.
"Umm Raindrop? We should go...."
"You know? You shouldn't let her get to you T.W. You're usually so vibrant and extroverted, but, when she's around, you're shy and nervous. Plus you stutter your words." Tidal shut her locker and walked off with Raindrop.
"And YOU shouldn't always resort to violence. You just wouldn't understand Raindrop.... we have...a history together." Raindrop knew that Tidal didn't like sharing her personal personal life. She wouldn't talk about her problems unless she was comfortable with it, and she clearly wasn't comfortable with her and Roseluck's past. So, she left the conversation alone. They made their way home.
"See you tomorrow, Raindrop!" Tidal said as she waved her friend goodbye. They always walked home together. Everyday, at the corner where the "Couches and Quills" store was, they would split up and make the rest of their "journey" home alone.
"Dad! I'm home!" Tidal shouted as she walked through her front door.
"How was school?" Tidal's father, Shooting Star, asked from inside the kitchen. Tidal's mother had died when she was very young, only 2 days after she was born. Her father had told her that her mother had wanted to name her Tidal Wave, meanwhile her father wanted to name her Navy Night due to her dark colored coat and stripped mane. When her mother died, her father named her the name her mother wanted to name her, for obvious reasons. Tidal Wave walked over to the kitchen.
"School was fine Dad, what's for dinner?" Tidal replied.
"It's your favorite! Carrot and radish mash with potatoes on the side." Tidal's mouth watered at the thought of it. She had loved that meal ever since she had teeth! It was her mothers recipe.
"Smells delicious Dad!" Tidal said dreamily, "I'll just be in my room." She started to make her way upstairs.
"Okay honey! Dinner's ready in about an hour!"
"Okay Dad!" Tidal yelled from upstairs as she entered her room. She lied down on her bed with her bag beside her. She grabbed her headphones from her bedside table and put them on. She was always a fan of music, and even wanted to be a singer, well, before Roseluck came along and IT happened. She turned the headphones on and closed her eyes as she was whisked away from her boring world into her own world run by DJ Pon-3's dubstep mixes and Octavia's smooth symphonies.
END OF CHAPTER ONE
Tidal Wave was standing in front of a microphone.....
All of her classmates watching....
She was singing her favorite song, "Love is Coming Through Your Headphones" or just "Headphones"....
The crowd was bobbing their heads and smiling, well, all except Roseluck.....
Whom was so full of rage that you could almost see the steam coming from her ears.....
Tidal made her finish...
The whole theater rose for a standing ovation....
Roseluck was stomping out of the theater....
It was the happiest day of her life.....
"TIDAL WAVE, SWEETIE! COME DOWN! DINNER IS READY!!!
Tidal snapped out of her daydream and found herself staring up at her ceiling with her headphones still on her ears. She looked at her phone and the music track was done. It also had been an hour since she last checked the time. As soon as she was fully back in reality, she realized her father called her down.
"OKAY DAD! ONE SECOND AND I'LL BE DOWN THERE!" Tidal wrapped her headphone wire around her phone, which is really hard to do and undo with hooves by the way, put it on the table beside her, and made her way downstairs. "Sorry I took so long, Dad." Her father pulled her seat out,
"Aww it's okay, no biggie." he replied. She sat down and they started eating. Her father always completely smothered the plate whenever they had her favorite meal. "Soooooo......." Tidal's father said awkwardly, "How was school?" Tidal looked up at her father with confusion,
"Umm, it was fine. You already asked me that."
"Oh, sorry." Her dad said with more awkwardness in his voice. They finished their dinner silently.
"Thanks for dinner, Dad." Tidal said as she finished her dinner.
"Are you sure you don't want more? There's plenty left in the kitchen." Her father asked.
"Umm, no thanks Dad." Tidal answered, "I'm just going to get ready for bed." Tidal's father didn't intervene. He knew that his daughter often went to bed early, so he didn't find it weird.
Tidal went into her room and put on her pj's. She walked into the bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. She could see why her father wanted to name her "Navy Night". Her coat was like Princess Luna's, dark blue. Her hair was long, thick, and separated into 3 dark blue colors. Her eyes were teal or aquamarine. Whatever you want to call it. Maybe that's why her mother wanted to name her an ocean themed name. Her cutie mark was a microphone with the note bars behind it. Getting your cutie mark is supposed to be a special day, but Tidal's "special day" was one she would rather forget. Her mark was on a light aqua colored blob she always had since she was a filly. Her father said it was a "birthmark". She remembered once, when she was visiting their cottage at Horseshoe Bay, seeing another pony with a mark similar to hers, plus Princess Luna had one. So she didn't think much of it.
She used a magic manebrush her father invented with the help of his unicorn friend. It has several different colored buttons. Each button corresponded with a manestyle. Once you selected the manestyle, the brush would automatically brush your mane into that style. She pressed the button corresponding to a pony tail and let the manebrush do it's work. Her father gave it to her for her 15th birthday. Her father was always a tinkerer. Tidal even suggested that he mass produce them and sell them. He refused.
All he said was, "If everypony had one, it wouldn't be special anymore." The brush finished and floated back down onto the bathroom counter. She walked out of the bathroom and into her bedroom. She turned off the light as she went in and lied down on her bed.
The Next Day
"Morning Raindrop!" Tidal Wave shouted to her friend flying down from her cloud house.
"Morning Tidal! Aren't you excited? Today's the last day!" Raindrop asked as she landed and they started to make their way to school.
Tidal replied with excitement, "I'm so excited! To bad you can't come with me to my family's cottage at Horseshoe Bay. I hope you have a good time in Manehatten, though."
"Hey," Raindrop said enthusiastically, "You said you were coming back on the Saturday, right?"
Tidal raised an eyebrow, "Yea, why?"
Raindrop smiled widely. "Because, my family's coming back on the Thursday! That means we can hang out over the weekend before school starts back up!"
Tidal smiled, "That's perfect! I'll ask my dad after school today." The two mares walked into the school, grabbed books from their lockers, and made their way to their classes.
