Finding Freedom
Chapter 22
Previous ChapterNext ChapterI woke up before the sun was fully up. Pinkie hadn't yet woken up, or had decided that this one day she wouldn't start a fight. Last night seemed so long ago. Like a faint dream that would soon fade. I could remember something about some core, and Derpy was there too. I shook my head to clear my thoughts. Most likely I got knocked out in some weird fashion and had an odd dream. Rainbow had probably picked me up and put me in a cloud. Besides I had some shopping to do. I needed to get gifts and stuff for our new holiday.
I laid down for a little while allowing myself to fully wake up, just in case Pinkie was hiding somewhere. After a few minutes I got up and dived off the cloud. I felt the sensation in my wings, and adjusted them accordingly. It didn't go away though so I slowed down. The sensation was still there, and no matter what I did I couldn't get rid of it. I tried flying straight, even upside down, but nothing worked. I started to head to the ground, when my wings locked up.
Without them moving to produce air, I fell. I couldn't stop myself, and I fell from the sky. The ground was rushing to meet me, and I couldn't stop myself.
"Well fuck." My mind was racing trying to find a situation out of my predicament. As every tiny amount of time past my breath grew heavier. I sucked in a huge breath to calm myself. I let it out slowly, and then in one big gust. I grinned as fell closer to my death. I began sucking in a lot of air, feeling like a pink puffball. I breathed it out and sucked it back in. I caught a little bit of it with my magic, but it was too far from my wings to be very effective.
I continued with my efforts as I could start making out everyponies face. With a last final effort i let out a huge breathe. I tried to focus all my magic, but it proved futile. I barely managed a small cushion in between me and ground. I hit said ground, very hard. However, I wasn't granted merciful unconsciousness. I had twisted my body so I landed on my side, and not my head. It hurt, a lot. Yet, it only reminded me that I was alive, for how long was still questionable.
Ponies began running up to me, trying to help. This was certainly unexpected. Dying hadn't been something I had been planning. The pain began to numb, and I started o feel my legs again. In fact I have never felt better. My wings returned to their normal state and I stood up.
"The hell?"
"That was quite some fall, are you okay?"
"Apparently…"
The ponies began to disperse, but Rainbow flew over to me.
"I've taken some bad falls, but that one looked pretty bad. What were you trying to do?"
So when I'm not falling, I'm trying to commit suicide, but when I fall uncontrollably from an even higher height, I'm supposed to shake it off? That makes sense.
"I couldn't stop myself, I couldn't adjust to the wind speeds."
"I've heard of that, the Pegasi who encounter that call it, turbulance. You seem okay though. I've been trying to get Pinkie a present, but she won't leave me alone. Think you can take her?"
Apparently no one cared that I had fallen from the sky and lived. Well what makes sense to them makes sense to me.
"Sure, then I can just shop for everyone else. Is everyone getting theirs done early?"
"Well Twilight is waiting, and Rarity has locked herself in her boutique. She won't let anyone in. I haven't seen Fluttershy, and AJ asked Caramel to go with her to the mall."
"Well I can wait till tomorrow then. Alright I got an idea."
I spied Pinkie Pie hiding next to a stall carefully watching Rainbow. I tried to sneak up on her, but she turned around and shushed me. I walked up to her and hid down next to her.
"What are we doing"
"Seeing what Rainbow is going to buy."
"Hmm…"
Rainbow just stared at us blankly.
"Well this is boring. I've got an idea!" I poked Pinkie with my hoof and ran.
"You're it!"
"I LOVE THIS GAME!" She bolted after me.
I'll hand it to her, Pinkie can run. If she had race AJ and Rainbow, I think she would've won. Provided there was cake at the end anyway. I ran as fast as I could onto the trail towards Fluttershy's house. Pinkie was gaining on me, and I thought about just flying away. She would probably just find a way to get me anyway. I continued running, and I didn't look back. I could see Fluttershy's house in front of me and pushed myself even faster.
I burst through the door, scaring Fluttershy who was currently helping a squirrel do something. I dived behind her, and just in time to. Pinkie slammed into Fluttershy who then slammed into me. We fell into a pile with me at the bottom. I should've been in great pain at the moment seeing as I had just hit the ground very hard, but I shrugged the thought off.
Pinkie was bouncing around the house, "Your it Fluttershy! What are we playing anyway?"
"Distract Pinkie while Rainbow buys her present."
"Oh that sounds fun!"
"Yep."
"…."
I just looked around as silence descended on us.
Pinkie didn't say anything for awhile. Fluttershy looked at me and gave a nervous smile. Time seemed to crawl as Pinkie continued to smile at us. Either she was incredibly stupid or was waiting for me to snap. If she had been waiting then she won.
"Pinkie, Rainbow is buying your present right now."
Pinkie suddenly gasped loudly. She bolted out the door saying something unintelligible. I looked over at Fluttershy and the squirrel she had been helping shook his little fist at me.
I ignored it and said, "Sorry for scaring you 'Shy."
"Oh it's fine…"
A comforting silence fell over us. I think that's what really got me. I could say nothing, but still feel comfortable. I walked around picking up miscellaneous things and putting them back up.
"So why aren't you out shopping?"
"Oh…Well I'm making everyone something."
"And here I was thinking that only Rarity would bother."
Silence once again fell. I walked up to her and nudged her. She looked at me and slightly smiled. She leaned on me and sighed.
"Well I shouldn't try and sneak a peek should I? I'll leave you alone for right now."
With that I walked out the house and walked away. I debated on flying or not, but eventually stopped and just flew. I had come to rely on flying, and I rarely walked at all. I flew back towards Ponyville, but I saw Big Macintosh walking below me. I landed down next to him.
"Sup Mac?"
He didn't say anything, but gave me a blank look. Wasn't too odd, considering it was Big Mac I was dealing with.
"What are you doing out here?"
Again nothing, but now he was slowly advancing on me. Now he was starting to act out of character. I backed up a little.
"You alright Mac?"
He snorted at me. Now I was scared, he was hitting his hoof against the ground. He charged at me as I took off. He grabbed my tail before I got clear. He slammed me into the ground hard. I tried to stand, but he threw me by the tail in the opposite direction. I flew through the air in a different sense this time. I slammed against a tree and pain spread out once again.
"The hell?" Once again I found myself completely lost in the same day. Big Mac was running towards me again, but I managed to stand. He suddenly stopped, and I recognized what he was going to do. I leaped out of the way just in time as he bucked the tree I had been against. A crack resounded, and I cringed when the tree fell. That could've been me. Mac was giving me that blank look again as he prepared for another charge. Before he could move I charged him. I flew straight at him and tackle him. We both hit the ground and I struggled to get up. The pain from earlier was receding, but my vision had been clouded.
Big Mac once again started running at me, and I charged him. He was much smarter than I had anticipated and he stopped. Knowing what was about to happen I tried to stop myself. I wasn't fast enough and Big Mac bucked me right in the chest. Pain dulled all my other senses, and I barely felt myself hit the tree. I didn't even hear the sickening crack, or the tree fall behind me. I heard nothing as I blacked out.
Waking up once again, I saw it was still evening. I sighed as any pain that had been there previously was gone. I looked up to get a view of my surroundings. I nearly screamed when I saw Big Mac giving me a concerning glance. Instead I flew up and out of his reach.
"Is this where you've been hiding out?"
He didn't even acknowledge that he had beaten the crap out of me. I know how these things work, he probably didn't even remember the moment.
"Hiding out?"
"Well no one has seen you since yesterday when you fell, so I assumed you took a break and went to relax somewhere."
So I spent an entire day knocked out. Well isn't that just great. I flew back down, eying Mac warily.
"Yeah well it sounded like a good idea."
"Well the girls were worried about you."
"And you weren't?"
"Naw, you can handle yourself. Besides I knew you would come back eventually. You should go visit the girls though. Sooner rather than later. Twilight seemed convinced that something bad happened to you. I think she mentioned the Princess…"
With that I took off speeding. No need to involve her with everything going on. I didn't need an even bigger problem than the one I already had. Trying to figure out why things are acting weird is enough. Hopefully I could get to Twilight before Celestia was informed. As the city came into sight I started to look around for the royal chariot. I didn't see it, and I sighed inwardly. I arrived in front of the library and walked in. I saw Twilight frantically running around the library.
"Hey Twilight."
"Oh hi Silver."
"….."
"Silver! Where have you been? Everyone has been worried. we couldn't find you anywhere this morning. You didn't show up at Fluttershy's either.
"I was…. relaxing."
"You were relaxing?"
"Ya I needed a break from everything and just went to find a quiet spot. I guess I took longer than expected."
She blinked, "Oh well that makes sense."
No it doesn't! I didn't even sound convincing, "Ya. So did you happen to send a letter to the Princess?"
"Well yes, but she said she was too busy at the moment…"
I sighed once again.
"but that she would send Princess Luna here."
All this over me? Then again I am still an alien in their world, so they should probably want to keep an eye on me.
"Alright well I'll just wait for her to get here and explain what happened." And then hopefully everything would go back to normal."
I laid on my couch for maybe a total of 5 minutes when a small knock could be heard. I opened the door and let Princess Luna in. She wasn't nearly as big as Celestia, but she still towered over me.
"Ah Silver. Your just the pony I was looking for. My sister wants you to attend a private meeting at the castle."
Before I could even protest Luna's horn activated. In a flash I was no longer I the library. I opened my eyes to a huge feast and a blank-eyed, but grinning Celestia.
"Well fuck."
