Finding Freedom

I slowed down when I started to get near Ponyville. A large boom resounded when I finally slowed down. It was deafening and I almost fell. I came to a near stop when I reached the library. It would probably be a bad idea to smash into one of the buildings. The moon was starting to rise and soon it would be at the apex of its orbit. I approached the library and saw that the lights were still on. I landed down next to the door and walked in.

Twilight was sitting in the main room along with Fluttershy, Rainbow, and Spike. They looked up when I opened the door, and then looked at each other.

Twilight asked, "How was your meeting with the Princess?"

I shuddered and said, "Ask her about it. What are you guys doing?"

Twilight sighed, "Rainbow here thinks someone is trying to steal her favorite trick, and as I was saying. A sonic boom is when something breaks the sound barrier, if you could do it I'm sure other speed loving Pegasi could manage it. Your unique color is what makes it a sonic rainboom, and I don't think anyone could copy that."

Rainbow tried to say something, but I interrupted, "Why do you think someone is trying to steal your trick?"

"Didn't you hear the boom? Besides Twilight, the boom is the hard part. If they manage to copy my color scheme then I'll be nobody again. I won't be the Rainbow dash, fastest flier in all of Equestria anymore. Then the Wonderbolts won't accept me."

Well the boom had come after I had stopped flying, so I had nothing to worry about.

"Then come up with a new trick. After all surprises only work once. Maybe you should draw something in the air with your rainbow trail. Speaking of that, quick question. How do you leave a trail?"

"That's a great idea silver. The Wonderbolts often leave images in their smoke, so If I show that I can already do it, then they won't have a choice, but to accept me!"

She took off and left without answering my question. Oh well I didn't really care that much about it. Twilight was just shaking her head smiling.

"What are the Vunderbolts anyway? Are they just entertainment, or are they an elite force?"

"It's pronounced wonder, and they're a little bit of both. They mostly do shows, but if Equestria is in danger, then the princess usually calls on them. Now tell me what happened at the princesses meeting."

"All I will say, is that I'm never going to talk about it again. Now if you will excuse me, I've had a rough day and I need to sleep. Goodnight."

I left the library and I found a nice cloud to lay on. Tomorrow I was going to get my shopping done for sure. If only I knew what to get. I closed my eyes, trying to forget the events of the day.

The next morning I woke up to the usual snowball in the face. I shook myself to get rid of the cold. I flew down to ground level where Pinkie was waiting with a pile of snow balls. She threw them all at me and I tried to dodge them, but there were too many. Soon I was under a small pile of snow. Laughing I shook it off and stood up. I flapped my wings and threw a mini blizzard at Pinkie. She was quickly covered in snow, and looked much like a snowball with eyes. Looked like things were back to normal. I sighed as Pinkie shook herself laughing.

The last few days had been hectic, and more than once terrifying, but whatever had been causing it looked done. I ducked as another snowball sailed over my head. I looked back to see Twilight's face covered in snow.

"Remind you of late night's with Lunar?"

She blushed furiously and chocked on nothing, "WHAT!? That is just disgusting. Why would you even say such a thing?"

"Well usually you and Lunar have snowball fights at night. What were you thinking about?"

She just shook her head and magicked some snow at me. I let it hit me as I was too busy laughing at her to move. It felt good to laugh, and even better to annoy Twilight.

About an hour later, the entire gang was once again in the library in front of the fire. Fluttershy who had once again skipped out was waiting for us. I sat on the couch with her, and said,

"So 'Shy when are you going to join us?"

"Oh well…. never?"

"Even Rarity has joined in. I promise it’s a lot of fun."

"I'd rather not…"

"Stop pushing her Silver." Twilight berated me.

"I reckon he 'pushes' her quite a bit when we aren't around, if ya know what Ah mean."

Woah that was unexpected. AJ usually just shook her head at us. I checked her face for any signs of blankness, but when all I could find was mirth I laughed. Fluttershy was blushing deeply at the looks we were getting. One night we had been in AJ's barn alone together and didn't come out until the next morning. I won't repeat what happened in there, but it wasn't what everyone is thinking. I had made Fluttershy promise not to repeat it either.

She said nothing, so I stood up for her, "And I reckon you get a lot of 'bucking' done now that you're with Caramel."

She laughed at this statement, and shaking her head said, "Now don't y'all bring in apple farming puns into this."

I looked over at Rainbow and Pinkie, "So when are you two going to find someone to 'buck' with?"

Rainbow blushed, but Pinkie as random as ever said, "Oh I already have loads of people to do that with! Since I host parties and stuff I meet a lot of people."

Well that was… interesting. Rainbow said nothing, but Rarity said, "Oh I know someone who I wouldn't mind 'bucking'."

She gave me a saucy wink, but I just frowned. I knew it was all in good fun, but Fluttershy wouldn't stand up for herself, and I felt bad when she was in the same room. We all looked at Rainbow who was trying to shrink into the wall.

"Well I uh…" She was saved from a knock on the door.

Twilight rose to open the door and I laid back and pulled Fluttershy closer to me. I nearly froze when the door opened. Celestia stood behind the door looking concerned. I didn't even wait. I decided to be safe and took off flying towards the balcony. I smashed open the windows and sped out the doors. I heard cries of surprise behind me, but explanations could come later.

Once again desperation to get away from Celestia filled me. I started pumping more and more air with my wings. Magic flowed freely throughout me and I felt that resistance building up. I pushed harder and harder, but this time my adrenaline was fading fast. Sweat poured off of me as I worked harder than ever to break the resistance. Then just like last time, I broke through and was flung across the sky.

I flew over the everfree forest and slowed once I was a good distance in. As soon as I slowed down a boom could be heard from over Ponyville. At first I thought Rainbow was chasing me, but no rainbow colors followed. I found a cloud and laid atop it, looking out for any giant ponies.

"What is this that I see? A flying green pony?"

I looked down from my cloud and saw Zecora. Oh this was going to be terrible. I could already feel the rhyming coming. I flew down to her and landed next to her.

"My name is Silver."

"A green pony named Silver?..."

She stayed silent for a while and then I realized something. Nothing rhymes with Silver! I wanted to laugh in her face, but I was content to watch her struggle. After a few moments she opened her mouth and I leaned in to hear what she had to say.

"But you are not the color of a chilver."

That had to be a made up word, I made a mental note to ask Twilight. I didn't really want to talk to the Zebra, as rhyming had a tendency to piss me off.

"Well nice to meet you, but I gotta fly."

I left her without another word, and flew back to Ponyville. As I neared the town I landed. I sneaked around the town trying to avoid Celestia if she was still around. I got to the library again and peeked through a window. I didn't see anyone, so I opened the door and walked in. The door slammed behind and I saw Rainbow holding the door closed. I gulped and lifted my wings to escape if I needed to.

"And just what in the hay was that all about?" Twilight was glaring at me from the top of the stairs.

"You guys aren't going to try and tie me up or anything are you?"

Twilight let out a breath, "Why are you so difficult? No we're not going to tie you up."

I sighed in relief and closed m wings, "Good. Now I have a question much more important than that one. Is chilver a real word?"

Twilight blinked at me, "What?"

"I just need to know. Is chilver a word?"

Twilight shook her head, "Well yes it is, it's an old word for female lamb. Now back to my question, why did you smash my window?"

Damn, so close. Oh well I guess I would just have to get Zecora to say orange. "Um… I was surprised by Celestia?"

Twilight huffed at me, "Well you better fix my windows. Oh, and Celestia told us what happened yesterday."

I had hoped she wouldn't, "What did she say?"

"She said that you never showed up, but that her guards told her that you had spoken to two of them, and that they spotted you running into the garden maze. Care to explain what you were doing in there?"

No good excuses were coming to mind, "Honestly I have no good reason for what I was doing."

"Then why didn't you meet up with the princess."

"Well I was going to, but then uh… Some guy told me there was treasure at the center of the maze. Ya, that's it." I'm not very good at lying on the spot.

Twilight just raised her eyebrow, "Riiight… Well Celestia said she just wanted to ask you a few things about earth, but Lunar volunteered to do it for you. Now I'm going to join them, but I don't want anything else broken in my house."

"Well technically you don't own this place, but okay. See you around."

Glad that that was taken care of. I went to sit down on the couch to rest a little, but Rainbow stopped me.

"Why didn't you tell me it was you that did the sonic boom?"

"Simple, because it wasn't me."

"Yes it was. I saw it with my own eyes!"

I thought about it for a second. If I was going faster than sound, then the sound of the barrier breaking wouldn't reach me until I slowed down… Realization dawned on me as I thought about this.

"I broke the sound barrier? I hadn't realized."

"Are you trying to steal my spot on the Wonderbolts?" Rainbow seemed really upset, like she wanted to cry, or hit me.

"Do I look like an entertainer? No thanks, you can have that spot. I would rather work on the farm than that. Besides, if I had wanted that spot, would I give you advice on how to be better?"

"I guess, but I'm still the fastest flier in Equestira. You'll have to settle for second best."

"Keep telling yourself that."

I looked outside, and I saw that it was a few hours after noon.

"Sorry, but I have some shopping to do. I'll catch you around later."

I left the library and set out to the stores of Ponyville. I had no idea what to get, but things like this tend to just come to me.

AN: We come closer to the end of the story. And yes chilver is a real word. There is also a word that rhymes with oarnge, but i don't remember it.
