I wake up in my room in Twilight's library. I have a room there, it is not too big, it is kind of cozy. It is my home.
—I am fixated on the concept of "home".
Today I am not lazy, like I am other days. I am ready to do a lot of good for the world. I am ready to help some ponies in need, and be self sacrificing and humble, etc. There is a vision in my mind of a purest clear ball of glowing warm light and I literally physically feel the rays of it pierce through my skin and imbue my extremities with a life and energy that is not my own. I breathe calmly and my mind is entirely clear and I love life, because I am happy and filled with an intense joy and a zeal. All I want to do today is shine like rainbows...!
—I am crying as I type this.
My bed has big warm + fluffy comforters and the softest sheets which are neither sweaty nor scratchy. In Equestria the quality of things is better than I remember it being on Earth. I think it must be the magic.
However! I am thrown out of my bed, quickly and forcefully, by the pull of the vision of light upon my own will. I do it because I know, with an unending and entirely infinite clarity beyond words, that it would be a blasphemy meriting a cruel torturous death, if I were to delay my good-doing for a selfish five minutes of extra sleep. It is pretty wild to watch yourself do something that you know that you would never choose to do on your own.
—The bed clothes are a symbol of intimate physical touch. Intimacy is exposure to me when I am vulnerable.
The wooden floors are not crude, but exhibit high craftsmanship. There is a fireplace system that warms them from beneath, as in the Roman days of old on Earth. You cannot see the joints or the screws, and there is no need for any synthetic carpet to hide them.
In my room I have a desk, a dresser, two tall bookshelves, and a closet. It is wood all the way down and there is even a smell that arises from it. Of course smells get old and unnoticed especially if you sleep with them, but it is still there subconsciously and it excites in me a reverence for and a gratitude towards both nature and the artisans who with greatest respect procure goods of the highest quality from out of the rough and unforgiving yet generous bounty of the land of Equestria.
This thought of the realities of economics reminds me that one day I will die.
—The synthetic, the man-made, is by definition the futile, cf. e.g., Eccl. 1:8-11. In the working of a craftsman with nature can be discerned a type of "harmony", defined as synergy, which is opposed to the monergism of scientistic thought.
I descend the stairs and enter the main room of the library.
The angelic Twilight Sparkle condescends to speak to me. "Good morning, Cringe. Would you like to join me on an adventure today?"
The question is not really a question. It is an arrow, and my heart is pierced. To have a pure heart, and to do things in an infinite world together with a true true friend, is life's highest joy.
"Of course!" I respond without a moment's hesitation.
"Great!" she says. "Rainbow Dash will be joining us later, so we will have to wait until she gets here."
At the mention of Rainbow Dash's name, I ascend into a state of ekstasis.
—If I were Rainbow Dash, I would smash my Playstation without any regrets. If I were Rainbow Dash, I would pursue my most idealistic goals wholeheartedly. If I were Rainbow Dash, nothing would stand in my way, because if there were any obstacles, I would toss them aside with the magical power of Loyalty.
I recall the last time I saw Rainbow Dash. We flew around as she carried me because I do not have wings. If you cannot fly by nature then it is quite a thing to be flown around on the back of a little pony who can fly. Thinking of the flight reminds me of the soaring ability of the human soul.
While we are waiting, Twilight goes to the kitchen. She bakes something, like girls do—girls often bake things. I do not know what she is baking but I know it will be magically delicious. I do my first good deed of the day, and volunteer to take Spike's place in washing up after Twilight. I feel the power from this good deed energize my heart and my body, as if I had plugged in a battery or some other comparable source of energy into a slot in my body designed to receive energy.
I get a pan and I scrub it in the washbasin. As I am scrubbing there is a rhythmic nature to it, with the back and forth of the scrubbing. The rhythm of the scrubbing reminds me of waves, which penetrate all existence, and the wave-particle duality. I think of sinusoidal motion which is hypnotic. The twin dragons of hope and despair dance before my eyes and I realize/remember some pretty deep + very "zen" truths about life.
—The water in the washbasin comes from a well, not from a centralized water tower; again with the nature.
Twilight has prepared some mille-feuilles. It is a luxurious thing I was not expecting and I eat mine up pretty good. I have a solid feeling of gratitude about it because it is a thing that made me happy and gave me pleasure, but I did not have to work for it or be self-conscious about the relative probabilities of attaining my own pleasure in order for it to happen, because it was a thing that someone else did for me.
That is how things seem to work out here in Equestria. Every time I ignore my own desires and forget about pleasing myself, someone else steps in to fill the gap.
—We all feed one another with long forks.
At last Rainbow Dash arrives.
Twilight, Rainbow Dash and I step out of the library and into the misty morning air of Ponyville.
The sun peeks over the jagged horizon. Its flares spread out and run across the sky like a cracked egg yolk, staining it with the rich colors of grapefruit, crushed blackberries, mahogany, and heart-shaking azure.
I look at it and I feel a rush through my limbs and my chest, as if I am being watched by a strong and provident, benevolent being. I become aware of my back and feel as though there is someone behind me clinging to me with a loving embrace. I am upset that I can't do anything so great as this sunrise to repay the pony responsible. I realize that all forms of suffering for any amount of time would be worth enduring for the sight of this sunrise.
—What is beauty?
Twilight sees I am affected, and comes over and nuzzles me a little. She knows I am sensitive to the beautiful things and I get a little carried away sometimes. We all sit down right there at the entrance to the library, and together we write a letter to Princess Celestia, thanking her for the beauty of the sunrise.
"Even if we wrote twelve or thirteen letters of appreciation," I say, "and even if we spent half an hour or forty-five minutes straight writing them, it would not be nearly enough."
"That's true," says Twilight. "But no pony is an island. What makes Equestria so magical is that we all work together lovingly, doing what we can for each other, so that no pony gets left behind. If everyone could do everything, that love would vanish because it would no longer be needed."
"But that just makes this even more incredible!" I exclaim. "What you are saying is that this sunrise isn't only beautiful, but—because it is something that only one pony in all of Equestria can create—it is a magical symbol of love that also causes that very love to become a reality!"
Twilight giggled a little at my exuberance. "Yes," she said. "That's exactly right. The technical thaumaturgical term for 'a symbol of something that also causes that thing in reality' is 'sacrament', so, the sunrise is a sacrament of love."
—Twilight, valued "mentor" archetype, old man with a pipe, Sigmund Freud etc.
"Wow," I say. "We've only just started out, but we could end our adventure right now. The treasure of the sunrise is far beyond what any gold or silver are worth."
"No way!" shouted Rainbow Dash. "In the infinite world of Equestria, there are always new wonderful things to discover! If we keep adventuring, we're sure to find even more amazing treasures, so let's go!"
