Many ponies the cannibalism as the ultimate crime. If that is the case, then the ultimate crime deserves the ultimate punishment. I will say this story is for a mature audience more than M.L.Z., but not an adult audience. Everypony; fillies and foals mature all at different rates. I've seen 30-year-olds act like 10-year-olds and I've seen 10-year-olds act like 30-year-olds.
