The day before Hearth's Warming Eve, and all over Ponyville, the streets were covered in thick snow, and the buildings all decorated with fairy lights and wreaths, in Twilight Sparkle's castle, all was calm

Spike was finishing up cleaning the castle to prepare it for Hearth's Warming, and Starlight Glimmer was wearing a purple scarf and trotting about the castle, looking at all the decorations that were already up

"Hey, Starlight!" Spike greeted the pink pony as she walked in the room "You excited for Hearth's Warming Eve tomorrow?" he questioned, excitement in his voice

"Wait! That's tomorrow?" Starlight said, shocked "I can't believe I forgot!" she ran off to Twilight's room in the castle

In Twilight's room, the Fireplace was lit, crackling, as Twilight lay beside it, wearing a blue scarf, and reading an old book, she also had a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows, she took a sip of it

Starlight rushed in next to Twilight, she started to pant "Oh, hey Starlight! I'm reading A Hearth's Warming Tale, you wanna join?" Twilight questioned

Starlight stopped panting "Twilight! Tomorrow's Hearth's Warming Eve! And I haven't even gotten a gift for Trixie!"

Twilight placed a bookmark in the book and closed it, she then stood up "Well, you don't have to get her a gift." she said

"But I want to, Twilight, she's my best friend, I just think it would be a nice thing to do." Starlight said, blushing a slight

Twilight rolls her eyes "Welp, I guess we better make a trip to the store." she says, she then takes out some saddlebags and puts them on with her magic, she then trots near the exit of her room "Come on, we better go."

Starlight canters to catch up to Twilight, and trots up beside her, they both make it to the front doors, Spike sees them as they walked to the door "Oh, where are you two going?"

Twilight and Starlight looked back at Spike "We're going to the shops to try and find a gift for Starlight to give to Trixie for Hearth's Warming, wanna come?" Twilight asked him

"No thanks, have to finish cleaning up for Hearth's Warming, you go on ahead!" Spike replied

"Okay, come on, Starlight." Twilight said, they walk out the doors, and trot through the streets of Ponyville, ponies all around decorating and making snowponies and walking about dressed up in scarves and snow clothes

"I'm glad you decided to help, Twilight, you being here should make me feel at least a little less stressed." Starlight said

"Well, what are friends for?" Twilight says as they trot by the shops

Then, in a store's window, Starlight sees a starry cape, that looks softer than any she had ever seen, her eyes shone as she saw it, she thought of Trixie the second she had laid her eyes on it

"How about this! Trixie would love it!" Starlight beckons Twilight over to the window

Twilight squints her eyes and looks closely at the cape "2000 bits? That's a little expensive for a cape," Twilight explains "Plus, I don't have that kind of money, I may be a princess but I'm not made of bits." she said as she trotted away

"Huh?" Starlight looks closely at the cape as well, and sees the price tag "Oh, price tags, I forgot about... Those." Starlight looked down, and trotted away from the window, eventually catching up with twilight once more

As the two ponies trotted in and out of all the stores, looking for a gift for Trixie, they looked around many shops, and looked at everything from candles, to board games, to even hats, four hours pass, and yet, they're still gift-less

Starlight and Twilight trot into a shop, they see tons of scarves "hmmm... Would Trixie even like a scarf, I've never seen her wear one but..." Starlight trailed off, inspecting a bright purple scarf "No, too small of a gift, after all, I've been building up this gift for so long."

They once more leave, Starlight looks around Ponyville, and sees all the buildings and shops, frosted by the white snow, and reflecting the sky above, in which hues of orange and pink danced in the sky, sunset had come, and they had checked every store in Ponyville

Starlight sighs, as she turns to the Castle of Friendship "Let's just forget it, I can't find a good enough gift... I'm sure Trixie will be disappointed..." she trots off back to the castle, and Twilight, with a worried expression, follows her

Then came the night of Hearth's Warming Eve, and, as per the usual, there was a party in the Castle of Friendship, and all of Ponyville was invited

Trixie was at the party as well, she had shown up because Starlight would be there, obviously, and was having a grand time, partying it up and drinking plenty of egg nog, Starlight saw her friend having a fun time, and felt almost intimidated

She promised months in advance that she would give Trixie a Hearth's Warming gift this year, but, seeing as how she didn't find one when she said she would, well, she didn't want to break any bad news

But, she didn't want avoid talking to her best friend, either, as she would probably worry about Starlight, and she didn't want to worry her, so she had to tell her

She trotted up to the blue mare, and then tapped her on the shoulder, Trixie then turned to face her, her purple eyes gleaming with wonder, she at least seemed happy, Starlight felt bad that that might just be ruined for her

"Hey, Trixie." Starlight said awkwardly

"Starlight!" Trixie said, happily greeting the pink unicorn "Do you ha-"

"No!" Starlight interrupted "I mean... No... I didn't get a present, I'm super sorry, but I couldn't find one, I mean, one that didn't cost me more money than I have, anyway..." Starlight explained, shifting her hooves on the hard crystalline castle floor

Trixie stared for a bit, then her face turned once more into a smile, and she began to speak "It doesn't matter, Starlight, although I would've loved one" Trixie grumbled at the end "Just having my best friend here is a gift." she winks

"Huh?" Starlight questioned "But, I told you for months that I'd get you something, you're not disappointed?" she tilted her head to one side, then tilted it back when Trixie walked up closer to her, and held her hoof

"Of course not, mostly," Trixie said "You're here, right? But I have a gift for you, in the form of a confession." Trixie hesitated shyly, but then preceded to kiss Starlight on the cheek, Starlight's face flustered from a pink to a bright red, and her heart raced, just as it happened, Starlight noticed they were under the Mistletoe

"Gift or no gift, I love you, Starlight." Trixie said, as Starlight's cheeks turned back to pink

Starlight stared for a minute, and then smiled, and came to the realization "I love you too, Trixie."

Author's Note

Merry Christmas, or whatever December holiday you celebrate, everyone! this was way shorter than I intended, and I hope I got Trixie in character here (although I feel like I didn't) this is my first time writing her :twilightblush:

I just wanted an excuse to write some fluffy StarlightxTrixie, so here you go, also, please tell me if I could improve anything in this fic, I'll use that for reference for my next fics.
