Prologue

“I don’t think you quite understand the reality of the situation. You see, you were played from the very start, nopony’s coming to save you now. You think your friends will notice that you’re gone?  HA!! You’re a fool if you think that to be true!”

The dark figure loomed over her, a large grin forming on its lips. It placed a hoof under her chin and brought it level with its own. Slowly, it spoke, “Your ‘friends’ were a part of this all along. In fact, the only reason you’re here now is because they feared for their lives and threw you under the bus. And now, here you are, legs broken, back split open...you’re a pitiful sight. Just looking at you makes me want to end your misery now; the only issue with that is the lack of enjoyment on my side. No, you won’t get to die that easily...you’re going to suffer. Welcome to your new home.”

The figure dropped its hoof and walked away, slamming the cell door behind it. As it faded from her sight, the echoes of its hoofsteps rang through her cell. When all was silent, she looked up at the door. The door that had been illuminated by the moonlight coming through the old window behind her. The door that would define her tomb until the end of her days. She turned her head towards the gash on her back, which had been cauterized almost immediately.

Paralyzed, she thought to herself. That’s all I am now. Just a sad, rotting sack of skin and bone that can’t even move. Heh..to think, I was hopeful that this night would actually turn out alright..But no, I was instead lured here by my own friends…

“Those fools...they have no idea what they’ve done. I’ll get them..one day.” She looked at the mangled legs in front of her. They were almost unrecognizable, but she still knew them to be hers, or her name wasn’t Lyra Heartstrings.
