Simple darkness
The Meeting
Previous Chapter[Liam POV]
It was strange… I had just been talking to the equines, only for me to suddenly be in the waiting room of the canterlot castle… and… how do I know that is where I am?
...The pink one.
I looked to the pink one curiously, she seemed to be bouncing around, humming a little tune… just what powers does this mare have?
I then realised that I had not introduced myself to her and calmly walked over to the strange equine and cleared my throat, getting her attention, as well as that of her friends “I believe I have not yet introduced myself, in order to rectify this error on my part, I shall introduce myself to all of you. I am Liam Boresti, the last of my clan, and the last of the clan lords.”
The purple one, Twilight, I believe her name was, looked to me curiously “What happened to the rest of your clan? And these lords of whom you speak?”
I frowned “They all died at the hands of the Roman empire. I had left my home in order to find a safe haven.”
They all looked to me with pity in their eyes. I sighed as the Pink one began to tear up and cried, “That’s so sad, Liam!”
“Why do you weep for me? My people fought valiantly to the end, they brought honor to their clan, and I myself am honored that they laid down their lives for me. I gave them a Warrior’s burial, and safeguarded them from being raised again, so that their souls may find peace.”
“Well, this is all well and good, I think we came here for a reason, or am I mistaken,” came Kite’s voice from somewhere else in the room surprising me. “Then again, maybe we’ve already done whatever it is we came here to do, how would I know?”
I looked to Kite and smiled “I think we have to wait for our turn.”
Just as I said that, the doors opened and a pair of guards came through, both of them identical in every way. I looked to them as they nodded toward the door “The princess is ready to see you.”
I nodded and walked through with the mares following behind me, I looked back to Kite still sitting in a chair. “Are you coming?”
He looked at me, “Hmm, oh of course.” He got up and followed, before stopping, “Should we make an entrance?”
I looked to my left and my right “Kite, where are your dogs?”
“I have no idea,” he said looking around.
“WHAT THE BUCK!?” I heard a feminine, motherly voice shout.
“I found them,” he smiled as I frowned.
“Let’s go see what happened…”
As we walked through the doors, we found Kite’s dog, her nose slightly damp, and what looked like a white furred pegasus unicorn creature blushing extremely. Oh no…
Kite not even noticing the awkward situation that was present, walked into the room, “Come ‘ere Bora, come here.” Causing her to run over and jump at him, he caught her with a huff, like he’d been hit by a horse. “Who’s a good girl? You are, yes you are.” He set her down and started scratching her head. “Where’s the other one, huh Bora? Where is he?”
Bora barked, ‘ate’.
“What? You ate him? Why?”
She barked again, ‘hungry.’
“Makes sense,” he said turning to look where the throne was.
Before he could say anything and make the situation even worse, I stepped in. “I apologize for the actions of Kite’s hound, I know not why they would do something so… uncouth… and I sincerely apologize for any damage done to the psyches of those that saw his hounds act of cannibalism.”
“You don’t need to apologize to me, they do this all the time,” Kite said thinking I was talking to him.
I looked to him in disbelief, “I was not talking to you, I was talking to the royalty whose privates your hound just sniffed.”
The white mare looked to Kite as if she was coming down with a migraine “Do you have any sense of decorum?”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” someone screamed above her. We looked up and saw someone fall onto the white mare. The two groaned at this.
Kite walked over to the now writhing pair on the floor, “No, I don’t think I do.”
“Oww~.” the new figure groaned. “Who put someone there?”
“Well, you see when a mother and a father love each other very much…” Kite said without missing a beat.
“Shut it you.” the figure said as they sat up. I saw that they were female with bronze coloured hair and tan like skin. She looked around and at me with bronze coloured draconic eyes. “Who are you?”
I smiled and bowed in respect to the draconic being “I am Liam Boresti, and may I ask, are you a full blooded dragon, or half kin?”
“None of your damn business.” she said as she stood up and looked at who she landed on. “And who is this? Some sort of horse person?”
“That’s what I’m guessing so far, or some kind of backwards centaurs,” Kite responded.
“Ohhh that make sense.” she said as she looked down. “And what’s with the wings…”
I looked to the both of them with dread “Are you not worried about offending them?”
“No,” both the woman and Kite said at the same time. At this time something small and black flew down and landed on the woman’s shoulder, it looked like a baby dragon.
At this, Marrow decided to make himself known and flew onto my shoulder “Ah, where have you been, friend?”
Marrow looked to me and hopped from my shoulder to my staff “I have been hunting prey, I found a particularly delicious squirrel,”
Bora suddenly barked, ’Squirrel?’
Marrow nodded “I found it in its nest, and ate its young as well.”
Fluttershy then looked like she was going to be sick, she excused herself and left quickly. I looked to Marrow and frowned “You know that these equines are squeamish, why must you tell them of the hunt?”
Marrow seemed to almost smile “Because it amuses me.”
I then sighed before realizing an error on my part. I turned to the new arrival “I am sorry, but I have not asked your name.”
“And you didn’t give me yours.” she said as she looked at the baby dragon and fed it something. It looked like a berry.
I nodded and smiled “My name is Liam Boresti, last of my clan.”
“I am Kite Alabaster, Lord of Fire, Master of the Council of Magic, and Houndmaster of the Nine Hells,” Kite said with a ridiculous amount of flare and pomp.
“Neat, I’m Awen Yale and this is Vez.” she said as she nodded to the dragon on her shoulder.
I bowed “I am certain you shall be welcome here. I have been welcomed here, and my magic is… less than socially accepted.”
“You think?” she said to me. “I can smell it from here.”
I looked to her curiously “You can smell my magic? Odd, I thought I had put enough bindings on my magic that others would not be capable of tracing it.”
Twilight then looked to me in shock “You were limiting your magic? How in tartarus did you summon that tree monster then?”
Celestia looked to me suspiciously “You summoned an ent against my ponies?”
I shook my head quickly “No, I had thought that young Spike here was going to attack them, as Dragons from my home are… less than sociable as of late.”
I saw Awen narrow her eyes at me but didn’t say anything as she looked over at Celestia. “Wait, did you say… ponies? As in small horses?”
“I think they prefer midget horses,” Kite said.
I shook my head “I have a feeling they would not appreciate either of those terms…”
The other white mare, Rarity I think her name was, huffed “I would be quite offended that you would call me a horse, I am a lady of standards, not some tramp, and I am not a midget either!”
“Well you’re not small that’s for sure.” Awen said as she gestured to her body.
Rarity narrowed her eyes “Did… you just call me fat?”
I sighed as everyone present looked to her with disbelief, as Rarity was by far the thinnest among them. I looked to her and sighed “I think she was saying you were not short, nor were you… inadequately endowed.”
“You mean top heavy?” Awen said. “Like hell they are the size of a child’s head.”
I blushed deeply as Rarity and the others looked around, suddenly finding the decor very interesting. I looked to Celestia and bowed “May we be off? I have a feeling that things can only get more awkward.”
Celestia nodded quickly “Yes, please go, I would like to speak to my ponies in private anyway.”
“Very well, let us be off to dest… explore this castle,” Kite said loudly before walking out, followed by Bora. Awen followed behind without a word as everyone else was looking at me.
I turned to leave, only for the door to close in front of me. I turned to Celestia, only for a fireball to fly at me as the six mares were nowhere to be found. “Why are you attacking me?!”
Celestia frowned as she looked to me angrily “You are a human, my ponies have suffered enough at the hands of your kind. The average populace may have forgotten, but I still remember what you did to Discord and his people! You drove him mad, you wiped out his race, and you made the Alicorns nigh extinct, all for your people’s amusement!”
I let marrow fly from my shoulder and let my first ward drop, the darkness around me growing deeper, the room grew colder and the plants grew more sinister in appearance. I looked to her as my eyes glowed with power. “I have never been anything but kind to your subjects, madame.” I said with venom in my voice as I called upon the spirits of my ancestors, spectral warriors forming from the darkness. I mentally commanded them to hold her still as she struggled against them. “I have faced persecution for my magic, my clan, even my friendships, but never have I been so slighted as to be judged for something so out of my control as my very species.” I leveled my staff as a scythe blade formed from it’s crook. “I am Liam Boresti, last of my clan, last of my people, and I have come here for naught but a peaceful life! But you… YOU DARE PERSECUTE ME FOR THE CRIMES OF ANOTHER?!” I then ran at her, swiping her spells to either side as I slammed the back of my scythe against her head, slamming her into the ground. I then called Marrow and let him join with me, wings of bone and shadow forming from my back as I looked to her in disgust. “I am leaving now, you miserable waste of mana. I am not going to harm your subjects. But If I find your soldiers hunting me, they shall know the meaning of fear.” As she fell to the ground, I frowned and healed any otherwise permanent damage, and flew off towards what I remember being told was the Everfree forest. As I landed in a small glade, I then laid back against a tree as I grew a bramble around me, hiding myself as I began to slumber.
Awen POV
After leaving the rest to do… whatever. I headed off to looked around in this castle. After a few minutes of looking around I found what looks like a library. Out of impulse I walked in and smelled the scent that each book gave off. I ran my fingers on the spines of each book and pulled a few off the shelves. I continued and saw a section the was warded off, rolling my eyes I easily dispelled them and pulled a few of those book off the shelves and headed to one of the tables to read. I pulled some glasses out of my pocket and opened one of the books. Vez just curled up into a ball and fell asleep on the table.
There was then an ungodly loud voice as I read, “HOW DIDST THOU GET HERE?”
I looked up to see another one of those winged horned horse people, this one having a darker tone than the other. I turned the page and continued to read.
“We are in a library, please keep your voice to a whisper.” I said simply.
As I said that, the woman looked to me oddly before sighing “What art thou doing here? This is a forbidden wing of the library.”
“Reading, what do you think?” I said as I turned another page.
The woman frowned “This wing of the library is forbidden to the public, only those with express permission from the princesses of the night and day can even be in here. And I do not remember giving thee permission.”
“I didn’t ask.” I said as I turned a page. “Also, you need better wards, a child can get past them with the right know how.”
Luna sighed “We needst our morning coffee before dealing withst thou…” I reached into my bag and pulled out a bag of coffee beans .
“Here, just boil some water, crush the beans and whatnot.” I said as I continued reading.
The woman sighed and teleported away as the white furred woman showed up, slamming the door open as she came over to me, her hands aflame. I looked up at her and back at my book.
“You’re in a library.” I said simply. “Do you need some coffee too, I have more coffee beans.”
She frowned at me “You are a human, are you not?”
“Kinda…” I said simply. “Don’t want to go into the info about it.”
Celestia nodded before the books I had collected were teleported back into their shelves and we were suddenly in the throne room. The room getting steadily hotter. “If you are human, then you are an enemy to me and my little ponies.”
“They aren’t that little.” I said as I thought back on the sight of one yellow pink one with wings, the all pink one, and the white and purple one with the horn.
She grunted “Enough with the banter! Face me in combat!”
“... No.” I said. She blinked at me as I turned around and walked to the doors. Only for a wall of flame to erupt in front of me. I sighed and looked back at her. “What got you hot and bothered?”
Celestia then fired a massive fireball at me, the heat from it making it more like a miniature sun. I turned myself into mist and moved away from the small sun as it hits the firewall, causing them to combine and basically make escape nigh impossible, unless I wanted to get lit on fire. I reappeared and sighed in annoyance.
“Really, what are you mad about?” I asked her.
She looked to me with disgust “Humans drove Discord mad, they wiped out the majority of my and Discords race, and they took pleasure in tormenting my ponies more than Discord did.”
“Well that was them and this is me, and I’ve done nothing.” I said to her. “Also I didn’t say I was a human, I said I was kinda a human.”
Celestia grunted “I do not care if you are partially or fully human, your bloodline is sullied with the blood of humankind! I can not take the chance of you living among them!”
“You know that I didn't do anything, and I don't know about the other two but I'm going to ether find a way back home or go build one out of the way.” I said as I ducked one of her fireballs. At this point she's blinded by rage as she threw fire around. Due to my bloodline fire doesn't bother me that much and if I can go full dragon I can walk out of here no problem, but with her attacking me I can't.
That is until something came flying through the fire wall. “My turn!!!” the being said as he tackled the white horse into a wall. I took this chance to run through the firewall and outside.
When I got there I wasted no time and made my wings appear and took to the sky, flying away from this place and to somewhere else.
Kite’s POV
I was sitting atop the throne, waiting for the horse lady to get back up. Her breathing haggard from me crashing into her. As she got up to find Awen gone, I just sat there patiently waiting for her to notice me. She spread her wings and was preparing to take off to find her, but before she could I cough into my hand just loud enough to get her attention.
She turned quickly and glared at me before morphing her magic into the shape of a massive warhammer, embossed with a sun on it’s side and engulfed in a seething flame. “Your people may have caught me by surprise before, but I will not be fooled again!”
I laughed and smiled at her, “But it’s so easy to fool you. I mean you left yourself wide open.” As soon as I said this, she looked at me confused, before turning around just a bit too slow as Bora ran into her. When Bora passed through her I was expecting her to turn to ash, but it seemed she was a bit more powerful than I thought. “Huh, usually that works.”
“Flame would never harm the avatar of the sun,” She said plainly before swinging her hammer at me, before Bora jumped in the way of the swing, fatally wounding the hellhound.
My smile faded and I looked over to where Bora was now lying on the floor. “Seems I’ll have to try something else. But first,” I extended my hand towards Bora, causing her form to fade into a wisp. “Now, what spell shall I use,” I said reaching into my pocket, dodging swings as I looked for my spellbook. “Ah, here it is! Now what do to, what to do.”
She grunted as she kept on swinging her hammer at me, her swings growing faster and fiercer as she grew more enraged. “JUST SHUT UP AND DIE, FILTH!”
“That’s just rude.” I said as she swung straight down, causing me to jump up and land atop her hammer. I flipped another page in the book, finding it more and more useless, before throwing it at her. “Stupid book.” I said as she pulled her weapon out of the ground, throwing me across the room.
“STAY STILL!” she screamed, charging at me with renewed vigor.
“This is getting rather foolish, maybe I should just end it if you’re not going to be any fun.”
She growled and grabbed me by the head before slamming me against a wall and crushing me with her hammer. As I flew across the room from her first hit, I spun around in the air and landed roughly on my feet causing a small indent in the floor.
“This is getting boring faster than I hoped,” I said sadly, “guess I should finish this.” I erected a shield around myself, and began an incantation that I had never used before, but wanted to see what it would do. “Spiritus et leve peccatum, Sanguis caelo princeps infernorum, da deinde auxilium, et redde debitum tuum, Legio.”
As soon as I finished the spell, she broke my shield, but before her hammer struck me, a wave of hellfire erupted from my feet. She jumped back taken by surprise, when the fire subsided I stood there encased in shadows, in my hand was a rusted sword enveloped in a black aura, with a curved hilt and a trigger jutting out the side.
She gasped in fear and looked at the blade I summoned “What demonic abomination have you summoned, cur? What evil have you unleashed upon the world?!”
“We are many, “ I felt myself saying, as I walked toward her without my control. “We are one,” I said again, before resting control from the creature that I summoned. “No no, none of that.”
“Silence, mortal! This is our form now,” it said to me with my voice.
“Nope, don’t wanna.”
“But, but you summoned me! Didn’t you know this would happen?”
“Nope.”
The princess then looked to me curiously “Who in the nine circles of Tartarus are you talking to?”
We both moved my head to look at her, and at the same time said, “This demon / This mortal… Stop talking when we are / I am! No, you stop talking when we are / I am!,” we both said at the same time.
The princess nodded before sending her hammer straight into our face. Before I could react, the demon rose the sword cutting the hammer in two, the two pieces became shrouded in the same aura as the sword, before vanishing.
The princess looked to me in abject horror before summoning another even hotter hammer, this one nearly plasma, as she swung the hammer in mid air “Begone, monster! I shall only warn you once, I shall not suffer thee to live among my ponies!”
Legion tilted my head, “Why are you fighting her?” he asked me, blocking her attack again destroying her weapon.
I shrugged my shoulders before realising he wouldn’t be able to see them, “I thought it’d be more fun but this is rather boring.”
“Then shall we leave and seek a more interesting opponent?”
“Yes, let’s,” I opened a portal to somewhere, “Let’s do this again sometime, weird sun horse lady thing.” I said before stepping through the portal leaving her dumbfounded.
“Why, mother why... why did such strange humans have to come here…”
