A New Year, A New Beginning
The Rainbooms were all gathered in Pinkie Pie's room, having fun in their last sleepover of the year.
"Where are you girls spending the New Year?" asked Rainbow Dash, playing video games with Applejack.
"I'll be at my parents' house" said Rarity, painting Fluttershy's nails.
"Me too!" Pinkie said, standing on her computer.
While they talked about their plans, Sunset was on the bed reading a book. But what she was actually doing was sending text messages to her girlfriend.
"And you Sunset?" Applejack asked.
"W-What?" Sunset snapped.
"Who are you going to be with over New Year’s?" asked Fluttershy.
"I... I'll spend it with some co-coworkers" Sunset said.
"Again? Don’t they have their own family?" Rainbow said.
"Raindow Dash!" Rarity scolded, anger.
"It’s okay. Not really, they do not have family, and as they are my neighbors, they asked me if I would party with them" Sunset said.
"Oh darling, that's very sweet of you" Rarity said.
"Why don’t we invite them to the slumber party?" Pinkie asked excitedly.
"I tried to, but... they're busy" Sunset said.
"Awww" Pinkie said sadly.
It was hard to invent so many lies and it only became more difficult. Sunset did not like lying, especially her friends, but she had no choice. Although some things she said were true, she never said anything about the Dazzlings, so she knew that the secret would not last long.
Worried about her situation, she did not notice the sound of the doorbell.
"Pizzas have arrived!" shouted Pinkie, rushing excitedly to the door.
The others followed her down, but Sunset stayed in the room.
"You do not want pizza?" Rainbow asked with a slice of pizza already in her mouth.
"Sure, I'll be down in a minute" Sunset said, smiling.
Once her friend left, she returned to her thoughts.
"I wonder what they look like, I hope they do not get stuck" thought Sunset. Then she went down to join her friends.
But everything was quiet. Incredibly, Aria and Sonata were not fighting. Sonata was playing with Onix in the armchair. Aria watched a TV show, something called 'World's Dumbest'. And Adagio was in the kitchen sending text messages to Sunset, until her girlfriend said goodbye, then she put her phone away and went to the living room.
"Sonata, do you have plans for the New Year?" asked Adagio.
"Yes Dagi!" said Sonata happily. "I have dinner already" she said.
"What will we eat?" asked Aria.
"Let's see..." Sonata took out a sheet of paper from her pants pocket. "Pasta with tomato, there’s lubina in the oven, mushroom meatballs,
and carrot cake" she said proudly.
"Mushroom meatballs? That sounds disgusting" Aria said.
"They're for Sunny" Sonata said, a little annoyed. "Sunset doesn’t eat any meat or fish, besides, she likes mushrooms, that's why I chose this recipe" she said.
"You will not have to eat that Aria. So stop being bitter" said Adagio.
"Anyway, I don’t care" said Aria, returning to her program.
"It's getting late, we have to get some sleep" Adagio said.
Sonata got up with Onix and went to the bathroom.
"So you want to get something off your chest?" Adagio asked.
That surprised Aria, so she got up with some anger.
"What are you talking about?" Aria said.
"Oh please!" said Adagio. "I know what you feel for her, I've always known, and if you keep that attitude, you'll lose her" That was the last thing she said before going up to the second floor.
Aria dropped to the couch, the words of Adagio in her mind.
"I know Adagio... I know" Aria thought.
She got up from the couch and went to bed. But not without before going to apologize with Sonata.
The Next Day:
Sunset returned home after having breakfast with her friends, went up the steps of the porch, took the keys from her pocket, and entered the house. The first thing that she saw was Adagio in pajamas with her hair very disheveled and drinking a cup of coffee, who reacted to the sound of the door closing.
"Who is it?" she said wistfully and tiredly.
"It's me" said Sunset, entering the kitchen. "Good morning Dagi"
The siren got up and hugged her girlfriend.
"Good morning Sunny" she yawned. "I miss you last night~" she said smiling.
"Me too" said Sunset smiling, while kissing her girlfriend.
Just then Sonata appeared with Onix on her shoulder. She saw just as the two girls shared in a moment of love. At first she was happy, but then she felt a strange sadness; it was not the kiss, but the love and the love that they demonstrated. Sonata came out of her thoughts when she heard the scream of little Onix. Making her react, and the two girls too.
"Hi" said Sonata nervously. "I'm sorry, but Onix and I were hungry" she said, stroking the animal.
The girls smiled and parted. Sonata went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast; the little ferret leapt from Sonata's shoulder, seeing his mistress.
"Hey boy" Sunset said, stroking the animal. "Are you hungry?" She took out a box of food for ferrets from the cupboard.
When she finished, she poured herself a cup of coffee. After a few minutes, Aria appeared and sat down in a chair.
"Good morning Ari!" Sonata said cheerfully. "Do you want pancakes?" she asked.
"Yeah" she murmured tiredly.
Once they were all seated at the table, they talked about their plans for the New Year's Eve party.
"Adagio told me you already have the plans for tomorrow Sonata" said Sunset, savoring her meal.
"Yes, but we must go and buy the ingredients" Sonata said, taking a drink from her glass of milk.
"Okay, we can go once we're done" said Sunset.
Later the four girls were in the mall to look for everything necessary for the holiday of the end of year.
"First we should buy the food" Sonata said, looking over the list. "Are you coming Ari?" she asked.
"I can’t, sorry" Aria said. "Hey Sunset, can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked.
Sunset was surprised, but accepted. "Uhm... sure" she said, releasing the hand of her girlfriend. "We'll see you later" Then both girls walked away.
"What do you think they are talking about?" Sonata asked curiously.
"I don’t know, I do not think it's anything important" Adagio said.
Sunset and Aria were far enough away.
"So... what did you want to talk about?" Sunset asked.
"It's... Sonata" Aria said seriously.
"What about Sonata?" replied a confused Sunset.
"I need your advice" Aria said, leaning against a wall.
"About what?" Sunset asked.
"I... I want... to do something for her" Aria said, a faint red tone on her cheeks.
"I understand, and how can I help you with that?" asked Sunset.
"I want to tell you something! Okay?!" Aria said, blushing a little more and feeling distressed.
"Okay, okay" said Sunset, trying to calm her down. "I know what you mean. And what you feel" she said.
"What are you-?"
"Please do not try to hide it. I've seen how you look at her, and how you try to be mean to her so you do not realize what you actually feel" Sunset said.
"Whate... well, it's true, yes, I like Sonata" said Aria. "When we were in the asylum, when we tried to escape, what I wanted more was to protect her. I do not understand how I can care about someone whom I despised before" she said.
"I wanted to protect Adagio too, I admitted I liked her when we had our vacation trip, remember?" asked Sunset.
"Yes, I liked Sonata on that trip too" said Aria.
"And what do you want me to do?" asked Sunset.
"I want something, like what you gave Adagio for Christmas" said Aria.
"In that case, come with me" said Sunset, starting to walk.
"Where are we going?" Aria asked, following her.
"To a place where you might find something for Sonata as I found it for Adagio" said Sunset, smiling.
It was two hours since Sunset and Aria went off to speak and Adagio and Sonata already had almost everything for the party.
"It's almost done!" Sonata said cheerfully. "Only drinks remain" she said.
"Yes" Adagio said indifferently. "Where could Sunset and Aria be? They are taking a long time" she said, looking at the time on her cell phone.
"They must be busy. Don't worry, you do not have to be so possessive" Sonata said.
"What?! I'm not possessive!" said Adagio defensively.
"Sure, you just always want to know where Sunset is, all the time" Sonata said.
"Of course! Sunny is very sexy, I have to make sure no one takes her from me" said Adagio seriously.
"I know, but you should trust more in Sunny, she loves you" Sonata said, smiling.
Before Adagio could protest, Sunset and Aria came in.
"Hi girls!" said Sunset smiling. "How did it go?" she asked.
"We almost have everything, just drinks" Sonata said happily.
"Well, let's eat something and then let's go home" Sunset said, starting to walk.
United, the four girls continued their shopping.
New Year's Eve: (11:50 p.m.)
The patio and the walls of the house were surrounded by a wooden fence, so the neighbors were no concern. The party was in the backyard, it was very spacious. It had a small garden area, there were only flowers and other plants. The rest of the floor was cement, on the one side had a small table with four chairs, a square table with all the food that was prepared by Sonata. They even had a mini jacuzzi and a hammock. The four girls were enjoying the party. Well, almost all four.
"It's almost time" Sunset whispered to Aria.
"I know, I'm going" Aria whispered.
She got up from her seat and went straight to the blue-haired girl.
"Sonata" called Aria.
"Hmm? What's up, Ari?" Sonata asked.
"Can we talk? Alone?" said Aria.
"Sure!" said Sonata, following her.
Adagio watched as her mermaid friends walked away, then looked at her girlfriend curiously.
"Do you know where they're going?" she asked.
"Yes" replied Sunset, taking her drink.
"Where are they going?" said Adagio.
"Don’t worry about them" said Sunset, taking her girlfriend by the waist. "Now... want to see the fireworks?~" she asked.
"Oh yeah" said the siren in a lustful way, passionately kissing her lover.
Aria and Sonata walked to the balcony of the house, in the distance were some lights of the houses, and people waiting for the final count. The atmosphere was perfect. They leaned on the railing, admiring the landscape.
"Why did you ask me to come?" Sonata asked curiously.
"First of all, I want to apologize to you" Aria said, serious.
"Apologize? Why?" Sonata asked. "If it's because of last night-"
"It is not for that, it's for everything. I know that we have known each other for centuries, and in all that time I have treated you horribly, and I
regret it, even if it does not matter anymore" said Aria, as honest as she could be.
Sonata leaned on and took her hand.
"It does not matter. I know you're not very good at showing your emotions, and that's fine" she said with a smile.
"Really?" said Aria in surprise. "We've been fighting for centuries over bullshit, I did horrible things to you, and you just accept it?!" she said.
"Yes. We are fine, besides... I like to see your rough side" said Sonata, a little embarrassed.
That surprised Aria, to the point of blushing, but she was not going to let it affect her plans.
"It's good that you think so, because..." then she took out of her pocket a small blue box. "I have a gift for you" said Aria, blushing.
In it contained two rings; one was blue with a pink gem, and the letter 'A' in the center. And the other was purple with a green gem and the letter 'S' in the center. Both had small diamonds on the sides in the shape of a heart.
"You are special to me Sonata, you have always been, if only I wasn’t too stupid to see it. And also, I like you... a lot" said Aria, blushing and nervous. "And I wondered if y-”
But she could not finish the sentence by a certain pressure on her lips. The little siren was kissing her new girlfriend with tears in her eyes. Then she pulled back.
"Yes! I want to!" said Sonata excitedly.
That made Aria smile. She took the purple ring and placed it gently on the finger of Sonata, who did the same with her. Then Sonata began to laugh.
"What's wrong?" Aria asked, confused.
"You love me~" said Sonata, smiling.
"Heh, you're the worst~" Aria smiled and hugged Sonata.
"You are" said Sonata happily.
They looked at each other for a moment, then Aria stroked Sonata's face and leaned down to kiss her on the lips.
As if it were written, the moment her lips were sealed together, the pyrotechnic show began.
While they were still in their moment, the others girls enjoyed the fireworks show. Sunset was sitting, trying to calm Onix as he sat on her leg, a little frightened by the noise, and Adagio was sitting on the other leg of her girlfriend.
"Those two will miss the show" Adagio said, looking at the couple.
"Stop it, they're in their own show" said Sunset petting her pet. "Do you want one?~" she said, smiling.
Adagio's response was long and passionate, lasting almost a minute.
"Happy New Year Sunny~" said Adagio.
"Happy New Year Dagi~" Sunset said.
Both couples enjoyed the rest of the fireworks.
Many things were waiting for them this year, but if they stayed together, everything would be fine.
