The Elder Scrolls: Equestria
Prologue
Previous ChapterNext ChapterHello, everypony...sorry. I've never done this before. This kind of thing isn't really my specialty. My specialty is thieving, robbing and causing general mayhem to anypony that calls themselves the law. And if you haven't already guessed I'm a thief. Not exactly the most noble career but what can you do? A mare's gotta make a living, and I'd much rather do it picking pockets than digging ditches or serving drinks to drunk bucks in a tavern or sitting in a tower reading scrolls.
Anyway as far as being a thief goes it isn't so bad. All the bits I can spend and the Guild at my back. Not bad at all. Of course, the Guild's support doesn't come free. You have to take jobs from them if you want their help. And there's still the Royal Guard to worry about. If you get caught on a job you either spend some time in the dungeon thinking about it, or you pass a sack full of bits their way. Either way, it really sucks getting caught. So I don't.
The Guild brought order to the thieves of Equestria. Before the Guild it was nothing but mayhem. Everypony stealing from and robbing each other. The city guards never took bribes, instead sending any and all criminals to the executioners axe. There was no honor. Only an endless cycle that always ended at death eventually. The Guild changed that. When the Guild was first founded it brought together all the thieves of the capital in the Everfree forest. Rules and guidelines were set. The Guild became it's own entity. A country within a country. Under the Guild there was peace among thieves. No thief would steal from another. No thief would kill another thief. Or ponies in general. Bad for business.
To be honest, I never thought I'd be a thief. When I was just a filly living in Fetlock – a small village near Canterlot – I was on a very different path. My parents wanted me to enroll in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns; even if I wasn't gifted. They tutored me day and night in Arcane Studies and Unicorn history from the day I could talk. But I never wanted to. It felt like my life was being decided for me. My entire life planned out before I even got my cutie-mark... and when I actually did get my cutie-mark it only made it worse. Nothing says magical scholar like an open scroll on your flanks.
So when I got the chance to leave home I took it. I left Fetlock, traveled to Canterlot and joined up with the Guild. They let me in on the spot. Being a unicorn my magic allows me to use the precision tools of the trade. Any pony can open a door with a key but opening a lock without one is difficult even for those with magic. Or claws in the case of griffons. And even though my parents tried to spend every waking hour cramming my head full of Arcane history they couldn't stop me from trying to pick every lock in town. It was the best decision I ever made. In the years I spent in the Guild I made more bits than some ponies would make in a lifetime.
But I'm getting off track aren't I? The name's Silver Scroll. And here's my story.
