After a local do gooder is killed, chasing after a mugger, he is visited by an unexpected entity shortly after. The entity managed to look into the slain hero's soul, seeing something within that he does not see very often, and had a choice to make. To let the soul go on, or to continue their good work. Making a choice like this, is never easy, but he had use of one who has such a noble soul, to protect a besieged Equestria. Being attacked by an old enemy from the past, one they all thought was been defeated long ago. Using mortals corrupted by their dark magic, who can raise the dead and overwhelm the defending Equestrians.

But, not as a Human, far from it... The entity decides to give this new hero something new, a new body. To give him the form of an Elder Lich, wielding both its original powers and the powers within their Magic the Gathering Deck. However, he will not be fighting alone, for there is another soul within the body given to him, its original owner. To help guide and train this hero on how to wield the powers of an Elder Lich, along with how to properly wield his unexpected deck.
