The Last Hurrah

Previous Chapter

Cloud sighed as he set his violin case down beside the front door of his house. It had been a long two weeks but tomorrow, tomorrow was the big day. He walked past the kitchen where Aqua was doing homework and opened the pantry door. He snagged an apple and then used a pen hanging on the door to scratch off the final day leading up to the momentous occasion. He and Pandora's wedding. After several letters they had managed to convince Celestia to allow them to be wed in one of Canterlot Castle's many ballrooms. They had a caterer, had invited all the family they wanted to, and had received word that Celestia would indeed be more than happy to perform the ceremony. Cloud smiled as he went to take a shower, receiving a kiss on the cheek from Pandora's before he entered the bathroom.

Cloud tiredly flopped onto the bed and wrapped the sheets around him, forming some sort of cocoon out of the silky fabric. After a few seconds Pandora had wormed her way between his forelegs and was hugging him with all the enthusiasm she could muster. She smirked and gave him a long kiss before saying,

"You know, I think we should celebrate our last night as fiancés with some 'fun' don't you?"

Cloud sighed while resting his head on her head, carefull to avoid her horn.

"But Aqua might barge in, you know how he is."

Pandora smirked before replying,

"I installed a lock on the door, and I learned a soundproofing spell. He won't notice anything."

Cloud blinked before slowly unraveling his blanket cocoon. Pandora noticed and lit her horn up, locking the door and casting her spell.

"Pandora, when have I ever refused you? You know what the answer is."

Cloud yawned deeply as the train chugged up the mountain towards Canterlot. Pandora was sleeping slumped against him and Aqua was coloring.

Okay, maybe we stayed up too late. Damn, why do I have to be so dang good at "it."

Cloud chuckled when he realized he'd sensored in his head what he considered inappropriate for Aqua to hear.

These changelings are turning my life upside down. He flinched when Pandora nuzzled his neck affectionately. Oh well, the benefits are definitely greater than the drawbacks.

He dozed in his seat until they finally arrived at the station and disembarked. He nudged Pandora into the world of the living and helped Aqua put on his saddlebags. Minutes later Cloud and his family were standing in the doorway of Canterlot Castle waiting for their host to arrive. The telltale clip-clop of hooves caused the family to turn to face the solar princess herself. They all bowed as Celestia serenely smiled down upon them.

"Hello my little ponies, are you ready for your big day?"

Cloud looked up at her and smiled,

"More than you can imagine your highness."

Celestia nodded before turning to the other two visitors. She exchanged greetings with them before leading the group into the ballroom the ceremony was being held in. Inside was none other than Princess Luna herself. The lunar princess smiled at the three visitors before addressing them.

"Greetings fair subjects, I have long wished to meet our new changeling citizens whom I have heard so much about."

Cloud paused, unaware that Luna was in on the secret as well. Before he could ask, Celestia said,

"My apologies, I forgot to tell you I told my sister about your family after we had our talk. I hope you're not upset that I neglected to tell you."

Cloud shook his head and gave her a gracious smile.

"I understand, it wouldn't make sense to keep us a secret from Princess Luna. She is the co-ruler of Equestria after all."

Luna turned to Celestia and said,

"Well sister, you were right, he is much less foul tempered than before."

Cloud grimaced as he was reminded of his little tirade upon exiting Canterlot.

"Yeah... I probably could have handled that a bit better."

This prompted polite laughs from the two princesses until Luna abruptly stopped and looked in puzzlement at the foal standing directly beside her now. During the exchange, Aqua had made his way over to Luna and was now scrutinizing her like an art critic would a painting.

"Hello child, I am assuming you are the changeling foal my sister mentioned." She fixed her gaze on Pandora, "You both realize you can remove your disguises. Not only will nopony intrude on us, but I am most curious to see your true forms." Pandora's sheepishly smiled before reverting to her natural changeling form. She pressed a but closer to Cloud's side as Aqua dropped his disguise as well. Luna looked the two changelings up and down before Aqua said,

"You're pretty, can I hug you?"

Luna blanked before smiling at the colt and giving him a quick nod. Aqua immediately squealed in delight before wrapping his forelegs around as much of the lunar diarch's barrel as possible. Cloud looked to Celestia when he heard quiet laughter coming from her.

"Luna always has had a soft spot for foals. I fear you may not receive your son for quite some time."

Cloud nodded before looking back at the two huggers. Luna was grinning like kid in a candy store as Aqua started poking her flowing mane, obviously trying to figure out how it worked. This was going to be an interesting wedding.

(The next day)

Cloud fidgeted nervously as guests started arriving. Already many ponies had found their seats and were now waiting for the ceremony. There were the Cakes, Mirror Shift, Beat, Gilda, and High Keep with Scyllia. Yet to arrive were Apple Bloom, Sweetie Bell, and Scootaloo, with their older siblings of course. Aqua had insisted they be invited but they weren't allowed to come if they weren't chaperoned by their sisters (Scootaloo was just coming with the group saying she didn't have a sister of her own, yet.) Also absent were Cloud's family who he had invited because he figured it was the right thing to do. Cloud noticed three ponies he didn't recognize. They got Pandora's attention and turned to look at Cloud. They noticed him looking their direction and gestured to a side door that led to a small dressing room. As the door closed behind them, Cloud gave the three strangers a suspicios look. Suddenly, the three ponies were engulfed in green flame, leaving two changelings in their place as well as one much taller figure. Queen Chrysalis herself. She gave them a sly smile before saying in her odd, layered voice,

"Well hello child, I thought I should drop in on your special day."

Pandora immediately dropped into a bow, and Cloud hesitantly did the same.

"My my, it seems not all ponies are completely senseless after all."

The changeling queen said upon observing Cloud. Cloud shifted nervously, uncertain of what to do. She laughed cruelly as she saw Cloud's discomfort.

"How hilarious, you ponies truly are pathetic. However, I'm not here to cause trouble, I was just curious about the pony and the changeling who had fallen in love."

She sneered as she said the word "love" obviously enjoying making the two squirm.

"Aw, what's the matter? Come give your mother in law a hug."

Before Cloud could even blink Chrysalis had him in a tight grip and squeezed until he started gasping. She laughed before planting an overly dramatic kiss on his cheek before dropping him. She motioned for her guards and turned to leave.

"Goodby you two, this has been fun but I should leave before Celly finds out I'm here."

There was a flash of green and the three changelings vanished in a circle of flames. Pandora rushed forward to check on her soon to be husband. She held him up as he gasped for breath and started wiping his cheek to try to blot out the green lipstick stain on his fur.

"Well that was... nice of her to drop by."

Cloud shot her a skeptical look before sighing,

"Well, now I'm in two psychotic families. At least you aren't as... charming as she was. I take it she doesn't like us?"

Pandora winced and rubbed the back of her neck.

"Yeah, she's not huge on ponies. Honestly that was probably tame compared to what I would have expected. For all I know she thinks I'm some sort of abomination."

Cloud sighed before walking towards the door. Given how everything was going so far, he'd be lucky to be alive by the end of today.

"We are gathered here today to celebrate the union of these two ponies. I have had only limited experience with them, but one thing has stood out to me during that short time. These two love eachother to the utmost extent they can. And now, on this fine day, they shall be joined as husband and wife."

Cloud gazed out over the crowd. Everyone they'd invited had shown up, including his family. The only one who looked happy to be there was Godspeed who was smiling politely. Cloud took that as a sign that he was happy to receive the occasional letter from him. Also attending were a few unexpected arrivals, namely the four other mares who had been driving him crazy. Apparently they had come as Applejack and Rarity's guests. Cloud focused back on Celestia just in time.

"Now then, Cloud Nine, do you take this mare as your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"And Honeypots, do you take Cloud as your lawful wedded husband?"

"I do."

"With that, I now pronounce you stallion and mare. May your love be everlasting, in both the good and the bad times. You may now kiss the bride."

And kiss they did while the assembled ponies cheered and clapped their hooves. But to Cloud, the only thing he was aware of was the changeling in his forelegs. His wife.

Pandora smiled as she looked out across the crowd gathered in the reception hall. The food was good, the company was superb, and the music was creating the perfect ambiance for the joyous occasion. Pandora couldn't keep the grin off her face as her husband crossed the room towards her. She pounce and wrapped him in a tight hug.

"I can't believe it! We finally got married! This is so amazing!"

Cloud smiled before whispering conspiratorially,

"Just wait until the honeymoon. You, me, villa in Horseshoe Bay, lots of alone time at last."

Pandora raised an eyebrow.

"What about Aqua? Where will he stay?"

Cloud pointed towards the colt who was sitting at a table beside Luna and a nervous looking Gilda.

"Gilda was more than happy to watch him for us."

Pandora smiled before pulling him into another quick kiss. Suddenly, a voice sounded from their left.

"Congratulations you two. I'm so happy for you."

Cloud turned and saw Princess Celestia standing beside them holding a plate with a slice of cake on it in her magical grasp. Cloud smiled and nodded his thanks. As they moved away Celestia paused as a glass of punch slid across the table towards her. She looked and saw a disguised Beat leaning casually against the table with a confident smirk.

"Hey, what's up gorgeous."

Cloud and Pandora waved as the train left the station. They were on their way now, heading straight towards Horseshoe Bay and their well deserved honeymoon. Pandora leaned against Cloud, letting her disguise melt away.

"Well Cloud, what happens after this?"

Cloud wrapped his wing around her and pulled her closer.

"I don't know, but it's definitely going to be amazing."

Author's Note

Well everyone, it's been fun, but all good things must come to an end. In case you're wondering, I plan on making a possible sequel/follow up story. I was thinking about continuing with this for a while but figured this was a good place to stop. I've really appreciated your support and suggestions and I hope you keep on reading my horrible stories. Until next time
