Sitting down in the chair, Doctor Philosopher looked about the near empty room. Using magic, he created another seat, painted the walls a bright beige, gave the ground some scarlet yellow carpet, then created a door and several lights, looking out towards the pitch black wall on one side of the room.
"Hello, I, as you may have read, am Doctor Pgilosopher. No, I am not Pinkie Pie in disguise, but she is the one that helped me make this all possible, after persuading the author to allow me a few moments of...magical use, if you will. This is not a story of me talking to you. Again, I'm not talking to just a black wall, am I Pinkie Pie?"
Poking her head through the doorway, Pinkie Pie's unmatchable smile was impossible to miss.
"Correct. It's the fourth wall, not just a regular wall. Took me a good while to strip the color and physics from it, so don't touch it with your bare hooves, or anything for that matter, please. Thank you."
Disappearing behind the door, Doctor Philosopher sighed, shrugging.
"Well then. On to the subject."
Opening the door, Dr. Ph. watched as Twilight walked in. She looked around with much confusion, especially looking at the pitch black wall on one side of the room.
"Oh, I have reason to believe Pinkie Pie had done this?"
"Only the black wall, if you will."
"Yeah, I kinda figured. She doesn't stop with the whole, "Fourth Wall', thing at all."
"Yes, yes. Now, I have a few questions, and you being the most able to answer them, I'll ask you to have a seat and answer them."
"Fine by me."
Sitting in the cushioned chair opposite Dr. Ph., she looked at him with expectations of a well known, and agitated, friend.
"Now, lets start with the biggest subject. Emotions, what do you know of them?"
"Emotions? Hmm. Well, to say in a sense, Emotions are key points of reaction to various different events in one's ecosystem."
"Yes, now what else could they be?"
"Well, I can think of another, but it's quite theoretical. I for one believe that emotions are just part of our impure bodies, we can't avoid them."
"Well, I think they are a hard subject, very unexplainable. Now, I have a great opinion on them, and it's how I see it, but you're still with what I say. We can't avoid them because they are us, we made them. Now, what do you see when you think, love?"
"Love has quite the meaning. It means both greed and humbleness. Greed because you want to have who or what you love, more than anything or something else. Humbleness, because you would be selfless, modest, and very giving for it."
"So it's something you see as a solid emotion? What about the emotions that are...not so solid?"
"Well, I'm not quite sure what you mean."
"When you think of a solid emotion, you usually think of love, sadness, hatred, fear. But what about the billion other emotions?"
"There are more?"
"Countless, infinite. We use only a few each day. Very rarely you come up with another. There is fear, yes, but then there is more than that. Fear and sadness is what we really think when we are scared. Fear is much different. The loss of a loved one, your own death, even pain."
"So...you're saying that there is something deeper?"
"It's as deep as we force it. We add in the only possible emotion to counter it, sadness. It's because, fear alone grips the very core, just as love does. Pure love, I mean. When you see fear, you may see someone dying, more than likely, or your greatest precaution becoming reality."
"Yes. I actually see my friends leaving me."
"That is fear and greed, you don't want to lose them, you want them to yourself. But what if someone takes them away through means of love. The two are love sick, get married move away. It changes."
"You're right..."
"But, we are all lucky. You see fear as death or loss of something dear. I see it as something deeper. I am Doctor Philosopher, after all. Fear grips the core of your own soul, not just your mind. It reaches deep enough into your body, finding that spark of life which started your life, and will end it. It is that which lurks in every dark corner, int he back of your mind, in the deepest pit you can imagine, if you don't, it is brought out, and it is mixed with something. It's like a damned unbound atom, it bonds to the first possible atom it can, and in this case, it has the key emotions to bond to. That is because there is infinite of each in our minds. It's like a continuous thought. It never stops till we die."
"How would one feel such a thing as pure fear?"
Giving a smile and a devilish smile, Dr. Ph.'s horn glowed yellow.
"Allow me.."
The aura engulfed Twilight's head, forcing out something, and suppressing all others. Twilight stopped breathing, her heart stopped beating. Quickly resuming everything as normal, Twilight gasped, coughed, then began breathing quickly.
"Do you understand?"
"It was...horrible...I felt it's cold grip, it's own terrible hold reaching through me, pulling out my deepest, darkest thoughts!!", she said quickly, "I felt nothing else..."
"As you can see, it was terrible. Though...some wish to feel what you just did, fueling their excitement. You got a full dose of it, and you are about to scream your head off. Would you like some comfort instead?"
"I don't see how..."
"Easy, counter it! As of now, I can do nearly anything, and to tell the truth, I'm being trusted with too much."
"Then...what could counter such a memory?"
"Hmm...How about relief. Or a blend of revenge and love. Which when broken down, is greed, true love, sadness, anger, happiness, and envy."
Engulfing her head once more int eh same yellow aura, Twilight quickly calmed down.
"Th-thank you...", she said, very mellow.
"The reason why I allowed you to feel fear first is because it is the most terrible of them all, and since love is it's opposite, love is the best of them all."
"What would true love feel like?"
"Don't get me wrong, it doesn't make you feel naughty, it makes you feel...majestic, like you are relieved of any type of stress, you become care free and overly generous. Here, allow me."
Engulfing her head once more, his magic worked out the several emotions in Twilight's head, allowing only love to flutter through her mind. she blushed madly, smiling like a naughty school girl at him. As he lifted the spell, she caught herself in her thoughts, and rubbed her hooves together in embarrassment.
"Now do you see why we don't have pure love, pure fear?"
"Pure hate, pure envy, pure greed, it's all because we can't handle it, and....I already feel horribly embarrassed."
"In truth, it wouldn't matter if I brandished a blade, sliced through your neck and bathed in your blood like a maniac, you would've allowed me, should I kept you so, would you?"
"Well...yes, I would, but not anymore...Please don't..."
"Don't worry, you can trust me. Now, that is what I meant. You become over generous about everything. You wouldn't care if you died right there and then, if your own body was forced apart painfully, you would have not resisted. But quite the opposite for fear. Looking at fear, you wished for it to stop, to never happen again, love, you wished for it to be forever."
"True...", Twilight looked down at the ground, feeling very uneasy.
"Now, I'm not here to torture you. If I have offended you, I am sorry, if you are scared of me, the door is right there, you will never see me again, if you love me, I'm here anytime. While it may sound kinky, or like a pick-up line, it isn't. I am in all honesty here, and to tell the truth, I am oblivious to anypony."
"Oh...I...Well, I'm not sure what to do now. I wanted to go hang out with the girls, but now...I question too much, and I can't figure out what to do with my own life anymore."
"Well, the, fortunately for you, your memory will be erased of all this, and your position placed just where you were headed, you will not feel anything, you will be fine."
"Will I remember your name at least?"
"Content...I like it, but I hate it as much as I fear, envy, and feel sorry for it. You will not remember my name, twilight. Do you wish to leave?"
"I don't know."
"Well, then let me decide, because I have demonstrated enough for our audience. Leave or I force you to leave, no I am not being mean."
"Oh...ok."
Standing up, she left the room with both haste and hesitation, not sure whether to stay or get away as fast as she could. Turning to the black wall, Dr. Ph. smiled.
"There you have it, a perfect example of talking to one's self. To question such a deep thought, and to give quite an example of pure emotion. This was emotion with Doctor Philosopher. Read on about life, or even what truth is."
Thoughts on fact and opinion
This will be short, as it is another subject altogether, though still small in it's entirety.
Swirling the coin in the air, Dr. Ph. stared at how it looked like a blur, than a solid object to him. Getting bored of watching it's movements, a knock at the one door brought his attention up like a spark. Opening the door, Twilight walked in the room for a second time. With a frown, Dr. Ph. sent her back out, and closed the door, hitting it with a bit of magic. A few seconds later, another knock, and instead, Rainbow Dash flew in, getting a little to close to the other wall before back winging to the center of the room and looking directly into the black wall.
"Pinkie Pie! Come fix this wall before someone else falls through!!", Rainbow Dash yelled outside of the door.
Once pulled back in, Dr. Ph. made his quick explanation and intro.
"Hello, Rainbwo Dash, I am Doctor Philosopher."
"Who? I've never heard of you."
"Exactly, I'm not famous here, yet. Or maybe I won't be at all. Depends on how this all catches on, and if this room isn't invaded and taken down by Doctor Whooves, who should be here in a little while."
"Who and what are you?", Rainbow Dash asked, finally landing on the other seat.
"A philosopher, hence the name, Doctor Philosopher."
"Ok, then. Why am I here?"
"I don't know, you're the one who's been cramming in the books on facts of life more than Twilight."
Jumping from her chair onto Dr. Ph.'s, she nearly knocked them both on the ground.
"How do you know that?!"
"Trust me, I've got enough dirt on every living thing to send this world into a broken order and start wars. Luckily, I'm not a fool, and I'm not that heartless."
Levitating Rainbow Dash back to her seat, Dr. Ph. cleared his throat.
"What is your opinion on fact?"
"What? You'd seriously ask me that, knowing I've read seventy nine books about fact and it's properties, and twenty three about opinion and it's properties?"
"Well, you tell me, you're obsessed enough to go that far into studying it."
"You're right, I should stop. Anyway. As I see it, fact can't be changed, and is the truth, fact is truth, always, and can only be truth, just as it is fact that we can only stand up on something, due to gravity and our natural senses to stand upright."
"But here is a good question. How do we even know fact is a fact, and opinion is an opinion?"
"An opinion is based off of one's beliefs, and a fact is based off of hard evidence, why else?"
"Well, it is because we came up with fact and opinion. We gave them both different definitions, but they are linked more than one would think than just left and right. Oooh, speaking of left and right. If you go right three times, you go left. If you go left three times, you go right. Wonderful! Anyway, as you can see, it is all opinion. If we create it from our imagination, another anomaly in sentiency, far from the billions of atoms that make up just part of our minds, cores of emotion, it is all chemical reactions, did you know?
"But enough, and to the point. It is never fact, only opinion. We came up with fact and opinion. If we think of something, and we draw it out, and it is correct, it is opinion, because we came up with it. We have no actual, solid way of determining if something is fact, only opinion remains, and therefore, is the fallback of all facts. If it can't be counted fact, it is counted opinion, because it is already opinion!! Fact. Is. Opinion!"
"Uh...bluh, buwha, dizh, vuhpa....what?"
"Mind blown? Thank you, have a nice day. If you are too confused to register what I am saying right now, please leave in an orderly fashion, and you will never return, nor will remember this ever happened."
Falling from her chair, Dr. Ph. held back a laugh as he picked her up and deposited her outside. Once she landed on the ground, she shook her head, got back int he air, and returned to her task at hand. Closing the door as she left, Dr. Ph. hit it with another blast of magic, changing it's properties once more.
"Yes...Perfect."
