The Virus (Remake)
“I’m bored!” I exclaimed in the air from my couch. It was the beginning of the summer holiday and I was already bored out of my mind.
“Oh, stop whining, Mike.” my best female friend, Caroline said, obviously annoyed. She was my first friend I met on my collage. She was quite attractive, with heart shaped face, chocolate brown eyes and hair and a sand-hour figure to accompany with her face. Because of it, she was often a target for the popular males. I’m actually her only male friend.
She was currently reading something on her laptop, leaving me to stare at the ceiling.
“Please, tell me what to do. I have to do something or I’m going to die out of pure boredom.” I pleaded her. She shot me an annoyed look and rolled her eyes.
“Ok, how about riding a bike?” she recommended.
“It’s to hot.”
“*sigh* How about going to the park?”
“It’s to hot.”
“*more irritated sigh* How about to-”
“It’s to hot.”
“WHAT THE HELL DO YOU EVEN WANT FROM ME THEN!” she roared at me while I remained motionless.
“Tell me something I can do and it isn’t to hot for it.” I answered plainly. She looked at me as if she wants to kill me before typing something in her laptop.
“How about a Comic Con?” she asked after few minutes. I straightened myself in a sitting position and looked at her with interest.
“Comic Con is here?” I asked and got affirmative nod. Now that’s something I could do. It’s never to hot for those things!
“Let’s go then!” I said enthusiastically and proceeded to the door.
“And where exactly do you think you are going, genius?” she asked with a smirk playing on her quite cute face. I stopped in my tracks.
“Oh, right. Where it is?”
“Time Square.” she simply said, not taking eyes of her laptop.
“You’re not going with me?” I asked her, confused.
“No, I have better things to do than run around in a silly costume.” she answered. I shrugged and took my wallet and car keys.
At the Convention Centre
By far, it’s actually great here. There are many shops which sell things from different media. I saw many people dressed up as their favorite characters, so some being Batmen, Spidermen, Deadpools etc.
I wanted to buy the jacket of Alex Mercer from the game series “Prototype”, since he’s my favorite character from all other media and plus, I am already wearing everything else he does. He never wore anything flashy and all the clothes except his jacket can be bought in every store one can find.
I scanned the Centre until my eyes landed on a nice-looking replica of Alex’s jacket in a nearby shop. I walked to the shop to have a closer look on the jacket.
It was truly a perfect replica. It was made of leather and it had every single detail on it. It was even my size!
“Ah, I see you found a nice piece there.” I heard an easy-going voice behind me. Turning around, I saw a guy dressed as the Merchant from Resident Evil 4.
“How much for this?” I asked him, motioning to the jacket. I really wanted it.
“It’s 20 bucks.” he answered. I reached for my wallet, but then he interrupted me.
“However, I would like to offer you something.” he said, catching my attention.
“What do you mean?”
“For only extra 4 bucks, you get this.” he answered pulling something from his pocket. It was a vial with some red liquid in it which seemed to actually move. On it was written DX-1118 C. I had no idea what was that in the vial, but suspected it was something like those lava-lamps. In any case, it looked cool.
“Buying it.” I said with a excited smile plastered across my face. I handed him 24$ and took the vial and jacket. Slipping on the jacket and putting on my hood, I started walking towards the exit of the store.
I have to admit, I was curious what was actually in the vial. In the end, curiosity got better of me and I opened the vial.
As soon as I did opened it, the slimy substance started crawling at me. It attached to my hand and started expanding just like Venom symbiote. I realized to late what was happening. At that time, the substance has already enveloped my whole right arm. I wanted to scream, but the red and black tendrils quickly covered my mouth, preventing me to do so. After the substance covered my whole body, the tendrils started drilling inside my body. I could feel an agonizing pain in every part of my body and I mean it, in every part of it. I couldn’t stand it anymore and I blacked out on the wooden floor of the store.
In the land of Equestria
The main lab of Crystal Empire
“So what is so important that I had to come from my usual bath?” Twilight Sparkle, the leader scientist and the lover of King Sombra annoyingly asked a scientist called White Coat as they walked to the observing theatre.
“We found an unknown pony-like creature, Your Majesty. Judging by its body anatomy, I would say it’s a male.” White answered, fixing his glasses. Twilight looked at him with a raised eyebrow.
“What kind of creature?” she asked. White shrugged.
“We have no idea. We didn’t want to start anything without your knowledge, Your Majesty. However, it looks like the creature has some kind of tendrils within him. When we found him, we saw many red and black tendrils moving across his stomach-surface and then retreating into his stomach.” White explained. Twilight gave him a confused look.
They entered the observing theatre where a group of scientists were patiently waited for her and Twilight saw the creature. It had flat and hairless face covered by gray hood. It was wearing leather jacket, gray hoodie, a shirt, jeans and pair of black shoes. It was lying on a surgery table.
The creature opened his eyes and quickly straightened up. He looked around until his eyes landed on Twilight and her group of scientists.
“Well, this is interesting.” Twilight murmured, stroking her chin.
Alex Mercer’s P.O.V.
I found myself surrounded by darkness from all sides. I had no idea what happened.
Then it hit me like a train. The Merchant, the vial, the liquid and blackening out. What the hell actually happened?!
”You are finally here, my son.” I froze as I heard a feminine voice which sounded somehow evil. Slowly turning around, I saw a woman with blood stained grey clothes, blonde hair tied in ponytail and a bit of a sly look in her eyes. She was spitting image of Elizabeth Greene!
“AHHH!” I yelped in fear and fell on my back trying to crawl away. She seemed amused.
Fear not, my perfect son. I mean you no harm.” she said. I reluctantly stood up, still keeping my distance.
“Are you really Elizabeth Greene?” I asked her and she smirked.
”Yes, I am. I know what are you thinking. What happened to you? I have an answer for you.” she spoke, placing her hands on her hips. I tilted my head to the right.
“You do?! Tell me!” I shouted, grabbing her shoulders. She frowned.
”Would you mind?” she hissed.
“What?”
”Hands.” she replied dryly. I made “oh” sound and took a step back.
”The thing that happened to you had happened to many others. You became a displaced, a person who bought some thing to complete their costumes for Comic Con. You got the looks and all powers and abilities of Alex Mercer, even the immunity to “Bloodtox”. If you don’t believe me, check yourself out.” she said and a full-body mirror appeared out of nowhere next to her.
My eyes widen like dinner plates at what I saw.
My face wasn’t my face anymore, it was Alex Mercer’s from “Prototype 2”!
”Oh, didn’t you notice that your voice sounded different?” she questioned.
“My voice?” I murmured and indeed, it sounded just like Darryl Kurylo’s Alex!
I then looked at Elizabeth with puzzled look.
“What are you also a displaced?” I asked her. She smirked.
”Quite I am. Unfortunately, I destroyed my world since I couldn’t control my infecting powers. However, with the curse of Princess Luna, I am forever bound to Astral Realm, so I go around and sometimes help displaced such as you.”
“Princess Luna? What world I am currently in?”
”You are currently sleeping and this is Dream Realm. Physically, you are in the world of Equuis, land of Crystal Empire.”
“Crystal Empire? Isn’t that an imaginary land from that kid show “My Little Pony”?” I questioned, recognising the names. Caroline liked to watch the show a loooot~ and I inevitably learnt many things about it. However, another thing reached my mind.
“You said I posses all of Mercer’s powers and abilities. Does that mean they are completely mutated?”
”Yes, you have every single power and ability which Alex Mercer from both “Prototype” games have and they are mutated to the maximum, although you will have to learn to manifest them, I’m sure you will do it quickly. Also, you got Mercer’s lack of empathy.”
“What do you mean, lack of empathy?”
”As the embody of Blacklight virus, you will have to consume organic beings to accelerate your regeneration process if you are to damaged. The lack of empathy will allow you to consume without any doubt of guilt for if you feel guilty, you can possibly stop consuming until you eventually die when you get to damaged.” she answered, moving small lock of her hair behind her ear.
“I will also have immunity to Bloodtox?” she nodded.
”You will also be able to mutate to even built immunity to magic, but it will take a while. Also, I should say that you don’t have to consume others to get their identity. A single drop of blood or a small lock hair will do, but if you want their memories, you will have to consume them fully for the knowledge is only located in a brain.” I nodded at her calmly while I was screaming like excited school girl.
”I can’t believe this! This is a dream come true! I will finally be the character I admired so. Oh, I can’t wait to test my powers!”
“Which reminds me, how do I wake up?”
”Oh, I will wake you up. Have fun~.” she replied seductively while blowing me a kiss. Soon, I found myself getting dizzy.
Real world:
I woke up and found myself lying on a metal surgical desk. Straightening up, I saw a group of anthro ponies in white coats looking at me. I also noticed a lavender unicorn mare dressed in dark purple dress. I think her name is Twilight Sparkle.
She walked to me with a serious expression on her face.
“So you awoke. Good, you can start by telling us your name.”she demanded in tone which indicated she thought I was a mere commoner and she was over-lord. I suddenly got an urge rip her apart, but decided against it. I should first see what’s exactly the situation here. As far as I know, Twilight should be kind and the giver of positive energy, not some dark chick with a stick in her ass.
“My name is Alex Mercer, lady Twilight.” I introduced myself through my teeth, trying to make my bow the less sarcastic. It seemed to work as she smiled and stuck her nose in the air.
“Ah so you know who am I. Good, you understand your position in the food chain.”
”Don’t kill her, Alex. Don’t kill her. Wait for the right moment.” I could barely contain myself not to kill her right now.
“Well then, Alex, one of my scientist will lead to your room while I speak with King Sombra about your employment.”
“I’m sorry, but I will have to say no.” I said, straightening up and making my hood mask my eyes.
She had a disappointed expression. She turned around and gave a hand motion to her scientists. They all left the room.
Suddenly, a gas started flying out of the floor and a spark flew from the ceiling. Within few seconds, an explosion happened.
I could feel it badly damaging me, but it was all actually quite painless. The explosion burnt a good part of my clothes and body, leaving a pulsating red light as it immediately started regenerating. I could still feel myself a bit enervated.
I pretened to be dead as two pony soldiers carrying rifles entered the room.
“He looks dead, Your Majesty.” one of them said in his mic.
”I’m not going to take any chances.” thanks to my enhanced hearing, I could hear Twilight speaking from the other side.
Said soldier pointed his rifle at me and shot few shots. Again, I felt the bullets hitting me, but I felt no pain. Probably because I don’t have a nervous system anymore.
The guards turned around and advanced towards the door as I slowly rose from the ground, still regenerating.
I silently sneaked behind them and with my superhuman strength, I smashed their skulls together, breaking them.
Red and black tendrils exited my body quickly I consumed both soldiers.
I clenched my head in pain as I felt double rush of memories.
Web Intrigue:
”... Report on duty, sir!...
… Equestrians have broken in, sir!...
... Hold them of! Don’t let them find the “Terminator”!...
...With the “Terminator” in our control, Equestrians will be wiped out forever!...
...Sir, we are ordered to terminate another subject….”
”Woah, that was something new.” I thought as the memories stopped. The ponies’ biomass healed me completely and gave me more power.
Thinking about War Fan (the guy who shot me), I was swarmed by dozens of the well-known Blacklight tendrils. Within the matter of seconds, I was disguised as War Fan.
Snout, hooves, dick in a sheath, long ears, uniform, everything was here.
“The subject is 100% dead, sir. Over.” I said in my radio, perfectly immitating War’s voice.
”You and Maxim are dismissed then. Over and finished.” she replied. Picking up the rifle War had, I proceeded through the door.
I smirked as I passed few unsuspecting ponies.
”This is better than I thought it will be. I think I will join Princesses Celestia and Luna. With a few careful words, it will be the piece of cake and then, I will start producing my own army against Sombra. This is truly the best thing that could ever happen!”
