Episode 1: Terror of the Metrans
“Mister shop owner, are you still there? I have an important letter for you!” A blond, gray, pegasus mare said, waving a letter in front of the glass door to a large clothing shop in Manehattan, it took her a few minutes to realize the sign hanging from the inside of the door saying ‘CLOSED’ in big bold letters, “Oh, it’s closed… I really need a watch,” The mare said to herself. As she was walking away, she saw a door in the alley beside the shop was open, and it was conveniently the emergency exit of the building, ‘What’s the problem with using an exit as an entrance?’ The mare thought, and stepped in through the swinging door.
Inside of the exit tunnel were various pipes and doors, presumably, all of them were entrances into the tunnel, but to the gray mare, they were entrances into the shop.
“I’ll just leave the letter in the owner’s office and get out, simple,” The gray pegasus talked to herself, she walked through the doors and into the dark shop, occasionally hiding so nobody outside would think she’s a thief. She safely made it to the shop owner’s office at the top floor and left the ‘important letter’ on the desk, since he’d be there tomorrow to check it, the mare then walked away, not noticing the sparking and twitching computer on the desk.
As the gray pegasus mare left back through the emergency exit tunnel, she heard an odd rattling behind the doors, she opened them and saw the cash registers twitch uncontrollably, eventually sprouting long, spider-like legs made of wires and homing in on her, the mare tried to fly away, but remembered she was still in-doors, and thought she could do nothing to escape, the murderous cash registers backed her up against a corner and it seemed like it was over for her. Until a dim green hoof appeared and grabbed the mare’s hoof, dragging her to safety.
“Who are you, mister?” The mare asked.
“No time to explain, I need to get you somewhere where those Metrans won’t find you or anyone else, for that matter,” The stallion that grabbed her said, they ran up to the roof and the stallion used a type of silver magic wand on the door, it had various rings and indents along with four studs around a red, glowing gemstone, “Now that we’re safe, I will let you begin the questions,” The stallion said.
“What was that? Who are you? Why’d you help me? How’d you know where I was?!” The mare was still panicking.
“In order, ‘Those were Metrans, creatures that use electronics as physical bodies’, ‘I’m The Doctor, just that’, ‘Because I didn’t want to let an innocent pony die’ and ‘My ship got me here and I just happened to stumble into you’, all good?” The Doctor answered, “What about you? Who are you?”
The mare was still catching her breath, she managed to talk a second afterwards, “I’m Ditzy Hooves, I’m a mail mare from Cloudsdale,” She introduced herself.
“Do you know how to fly properly, miss Ditzy?” The Doctor asked.
“Yeah, why?” Ditzy asked back.
“Because you’ll need to do it to save yourself,” The Doctor replied, holding up a circular device with a red knob in the middle, Ditzy immediately flew away and The Doctor planted the device on the floor before jumping down from the building. Once Ditzy was safe on a cloud, she saw the building explode and set fire to the street and the nearby fireworks shop, causing a series of various colorful explosions around that block of Manehattan.
The next day, Ditzy was down at Manehattan again, delivering her letters as usual, when she came across a blue police box at a street corner, she thought it was odd, but left it alone. After delivering her letters, she was going back to Cloudsdale, she flew over the street corner from earlier and the police box was nowhere to be found, the clothing shop was also still blown to pieces, the owner was complaining to a cop near the charred remains of the building. As Ditzy was not looking, she flew right into a building and fell down to the street below.
“Ouch!” She yelled as she hit the ground, she looked around and saw the blue box just ahead. She walked up to it and almost got to open the doors before The Doctor popped out of the box, scaring Ditzy.
“Oh, it’s just you, Ditzy,” The Doctor said, “So, about yesterday…”
“It’s okay, I guess, it wasn’t my shop,” Ditzy replied.
“Not sure how that makes it any better,” The Doctor said, “Anyways, those things that attacked you are still around this city, their species in general at least,” He added, this made Ditzy worried.
“So, are you…”
“No, I would never bomb a city filled with innocent people,” The Doctor clarified.
“Okay, so, could you point the way to a bunch of clouds up there?” Ditzy asked, The Doctor looked up at the sky and saw a large cloud with rainbows pouring out of it, he assumed that was the right place and pointed at it.
“Over there,” He said.
“Thanks,” Ditzy said, flying away to the big cloud, she stopped to look back and saw The Doctor going back into the box, she continued on her way and did not hear or see the police box disappear into the air.
At Cloudsdale, the city in the sky, Ditzy arrived at her house and put her bag on a hanger, she had a quick shower and went to sleep, as she was trying to fall asleep, her phone rang, but she refused to check it, the ringing got so obnoxious that she gave in.
“What is it?!” Ditzy shouted into the phone, she got a response in the form of a bizarre garbled voice that sounded like some sort of alien language, the wires from the phone then jumped out and she dropped it as she ran away, “Not this stuff again!” Ditzy said, the phone used its wires to crawl along the ground and reach her.
The phone grabbed Ditzy’s leg and pulled her back into her own house, but a blue police box materialized in front of her and a gray mare grabbed Ditzy’s hoof, pulling her into the box and freeing the gray pegasus from the possessed phone.
“Are you okay?” The gray mare asked, “My name is Chrome Green, by the way,” She mentioned.
“Yeah, what is this place? Why’d you save me?” Ditzy was confused as she noticed the large, dome-like room inside of the police box with a hexagonal control panel at the center, with a glowing pillar connecting the console to the ceiling.
“This is the TARDIS, recall what I said when I saved you for the first time,” The Doctor said, Ditzy remained quiet as The Doctor pushed some buttons on the console, which closed the doors on the phone’s wires and started what Ditzy presumed was the engine, “By the way, Chrome, have you seen my other sonic anywhere?” The Doctor asked.
“The spiders in the vents must still have it,” Chrome replied.
“Okay, we’ll take care of those things later, the current priority is finding out how to get rid of the Metrans,” The Doctor said.
Ditzy coughed to get the attention of these odd ponies, she then talked to them, “I’m still really confused,” She stated.
“I’m an alien, she’s immortal, and we all live in this orange spaceship, is that any simpler to understand?” The Doctor ‘explained’, Ditzy nodded, “Now that that’s all settled, let’s go back to the big city, the Metran hive must be somewhere over there,” The Doctor said. Arriving at Manehattan again, the trio walked outside and saw that it was still night.
“What are we looking for?” Ditzy asked.
“A huge source of energy that would be distributed all around the city, like, a big generator somewhere around here,” The Doctor said, “Where would that be?” He said, they were all around a line of electrical poles.
“Maybe we could follow the electric tower things,” Ditzy said.
“Yeah, the poles must lead back to the generator for the city, wherever it is,” Chrome agreed, the group followed the poles to the bay, where a large facility was set up right on the coast.
“This must be the electrical power plant, so the Metran hive must be inside,” The Doctor said. They trotted into the power plant and went to the generator room, where colorful sparks were flying around the room.
“So, what do we do?” Ditzy questioned.
“We have to disperse the energy through a conductor, the Metrans will then be dissolved as they don’t have anything to travel along,” The Doctor said, Ditzy stared at him in confusion, “Ugh, we have to put these things in water so the Metrans will drown,” He simplified.
“But that’ll cause a blackout in the entire city, you goof,” Chrome said.
“Oh yeah, then what will we do?” The Doctor asked.
“Turn these things off and get the Metrans when they escape from the generators, then we turn them back on,” Chrome responded.
“I’m a huge idiot sometimes,” The Doctor remarked, they went to the controls and turned the generators off, but the sparks did not stop, if anything, they only got bigger and faster, “Any new plans?” The Doctor sarcastically asked.
“I’d say you sonic it,” Chrome suggested, Ditzy did not contribute to the conversation, as she had no idea what they were dealing with. The Doctor pointed his red sonic screwdriver at the generators, but it did not work.
“I’m really scared right now,” Ditzy said.
“Well, you’re in luck, because now is the part where we run for our lives!” The Doctor replied. The trio then dashed out of the building and looked back when they felt they were safe, the colorful sparks were traveling up the electric wires and across the poles all around the city.
“Oh no,” Chrome said, they ran further into the city and many billboards and other things were turning on, they then sprouted spider-like legs out of wires, like the cash registers the previous night or the telephone when Chrome saved Ditzy, and the large electronics began to walk around Manehattan.
“Do you have any ideas, Doctor?” Ditzy asked.
“Now we have no choice but to drown all of these Metrans, even if we have to destroy every electronic in the city,” The Doctor said.
“How would we do that?” Chrome asked.
“Question of the year so far,” The Doctor replied, “If all else fails, I’ll create an electrical signal somewhere in the water and they’ll fall right in,” He said.
“What makes you so sure that it will work?” Ditzy asked.
“Well, for one, stop asking all these questions, rapid fire, it’s pretty distracting when I have to answer a silly question and mess with my screwdriver’s settings at once,” The Doctor sarcastically said, “And for two, that’s just a fail safe plan, if everything fails, sadly, killing them in the bay is the way,” He explained, “Does anyone have any better ideas?”
“I say we try to turn all of the electronics off at their individual sources, the good old on and off switches,” Chrome suggested.
“I agree with her I guess,” Ditzy said.
“Then we can try that, come along,” The Doctor said, quickly skipping towards the city, the two mares followed him. Arriving at the center of the city, no Metrans were walking around the streets, and the trio was left dazed and confused, “Well, what now?” The Doctor asked.
“I think now’s those people,” Chrome mentioned, pointing at a large group of ponies slowly walking towards them.
“Oh good, survivors,” The Doctor thanked, but stopped his line of thought a moment afterwards, “Wait, they are not even blinking,” He remarked, at a closer glance the ponies had empty white eyes and black wires hanging out of their mouths.
“What is it?” Ditzy asked, unable to see them properly.
“The Metrans got sick of only taking electronics and machines, so they started taking the better spot,” The Doctor began, “They’re possessing living beings now,” He said. The zombies got closer and began to pick up their pace, starting to walk properly, then sprint and then they ran after The Doctor and his group.
“What do we do now, Doc?” Chrome asked as they ran all the way back to the bay.
“We get back to the power plant in search of a few answers,” The Doctor replied, the trio then arrived back at the pier where the plant was situated. They entered the building and rushed to the generator room, the sparks were still flying and lighting up the room in various colors.
“What do we do no-” Ditzy was interrupted by The Doctor speaking to the generators.
“Metran consciousness, I come in peace,” The Doctor said, Ditzy was very confused, but Chrome seemed to not mind what was happening.
“What is it, mortal?” The ‘Metran consciousness’ replied.
“First, stop your troops, they must be nearby, I just have to talk to you,” The Doctor ordered.
“Your wish is my command,” The consciousness responded, the Metran zombies outside of the building were stopping on the spot, “But you are unable to leave this room until we are done, and if you try to, I may simply send my drones after you once more,” It added.
“What are you doing on this simple planet? You’re a hive mind that uses technology to spread, a place like Equestria is probably the worst for something like you,” The Doctor began, “That is what I would say, if you hadn’t displayed that you can control living beings as well,” He said.
“Why, precisely, would my motivation matter to you?” The consciousness asked.
“I just need to know why you do any of this, to see if I could ever help you, I’m not called ‘The Doctor’ for no reason,” He replied.
“So, Doctor, you want to help me escape this infernal planet,” The consciousness said, The Doctor was confused for a second, but was also glad that they were getting somewhere.
“Infernal? Does that mean that you’re not here by choice?” The Doctor asked.
“Indeed, my ship crashed in the ocean, not far from here, we had no choices beyond ‘death’ and ‘getting to the nearest electrical source’,” The consciousness began, “So I made it to the generators of this city, and now I reside in here,” it explained.
“Good, we’re moving somewhere, but what about the pony possessing… Nonsense,” The Doctor said.
“I had a body once, thousands of them in fact,” The consciousness started, “But a meteor fell on my planet, it devastated the land, I had to transfer every piece of me into a super computer, converted into a small ship,” It explained, “And it just so happened that Earth’s magnetic field pulled us into the ‘surface’, if that’s what one would call our crash site,” The consciousness finished.
“So you tried taking the bodies of the locals because you missed not having your own organic body, or, bodies, I suppose,” The Doctor recapped.
“Indeed,” The consciousness confirmed.
“So, how do you think I could truly help you?” The Doctor asked.
“You cannot, our ship is lost forever,” The consciousness replied.
“Don’t be dramatic, there must be some way I can help you, I could get you a new ship, how ‘bout?” The Doctor suggested.
“How would you do that?” The consciousness asked.
“…” The Doctor was stuck in a personal loop for a moment, “I could turn these generators into one?” He said.
“And sacrifice these people’s needs for those of an alien hive mind?” The consciousness said.
“Doc, just admit defeat, you cannot help him, her, whatever this thing is,” Chrome said.
“No, I refuse to admit that I can’t help someone, there must be something I could do to save the Metrans,” The Doctor said, both to Chrome and himself.
“Face the facts, you cannot help, I am doomed to stay in this planet forever, and the inhabitants of this city shall be my new bodies,” The consciousness said.
“I know…” The Doctor began, “I know what I could do, it’s far from my usual behavior, but it’s worth a try,” The Doctor said with a saddened look on his face.
“What is it?” The consciousness asked.
“I could put you out of your misery, if you want me to, that is,” The Doctor replied.
“So you’re willing to break your promise, you oath, open an exception just for this mess of wires and sparks?” Chrome asked.
“If there’s nothing else I can do, putting them down is not that bad of a choice,” The Doctor said, “Think about it, the Metrans are trapped here and possibly suffering, I’ll be helping every side,” He tried to convince himself.
“You do not have the courage to kill an intelligent being,” The consciousness said.
The room was filled with silence for a few seconds, “You’re right,” The Doctor admitted, “You’re completely right, I can’t help you, at all,” The Doctor said.
“So we arrive at a common location in this ‘chat’,” The consciousness said.
“I can’t help you by sitting here and doing nothing, that is,” The Doctor replied.
“What?” The consciousness was confused.
“I just need to find my ship, get your zombies, bodies, whatever, away from the entrance of this place, I’ll be right back,” The Doctor said, rushing back to the TARDIS, which was at the center of the city.
Arriving safely at his ship, The Doctor turned the engines on and flew from the spot and into the ocean.
“This old thing needs to be here somewhere,” The Doctor said to himself, he searched for at least an hour before finding the wreckage of a ship at the ocean floor, “Now, to bring you back to your crew, baby,” The Doctor pushed a button that created a type of energy chain between the TARDIS and the Metrans’ ship. He dragged the ship across the sand at the bottom, dodging the occasional rock.
“Where has your friend gone?” The consciousness asked The Doctor’s two companions through one of its zombies.
“He’s gone to save you,” Chrome replied. Not soon after, a blue police box crashed through the surface of the water at the bay, towing a large ship, Chrome, Ditzy and the Metrans watched in awe as The Doctor placed the ship with its engines to the ground, the TARDIS then safely landed near the power plant.
“You have yourself a ticket out of Earth, all aboard!” The Doctor said to the Metran consciousness.
“Does the ship still function?” The consciousness asked.
“Part of the fuel tanks may be filled with salt water, but there’s plenty to leave the atmosphere and escape Earth, forever,” The Doctor explained.
“I cannot thank you enough, Doctor, I deeply apologize that I doubted you,” The consciousness said, it used one of its bodies to hug The Doctor in gratitude, the colorful sparks then flew out of the generators and from the possessed ponies and got into the ship, “Fare thee well, Doctor, I hope to see you once more some day,” The consciousness said as its ship took off and disappeared into the night sky.
“See you soon too,” The Doctor responded, “Well, now to get the wires out of these people’s mouths before they wake up,” He added, looking back at his companions and all of the fainted ponies at the pier.
After doing their job, the team returned to the TARDIS to set off somewhere else.
“So Ditzy…” The Doctor said, he stopped himself to look closer at Ditzy’s eyes, he never noticed that they were crossed, “Were your eyes always like that?” He asked.
“I got hit by a few dodge balls when I was a filly,” Ditzy explained.
“Oh, sorry for that,” The Doctor said, “Anyways, as I was saying, do you want to travel around with us?” He questioned.
“I don’t know, where are we going?” Ditzy asked.
“Wherever you want to go, we can go meet your favorite singer or painter or whatever before they died, we can see famous wars and events, we can visit other worlds, all of the time in the world and all of the space in the universe, pick a place and we’ll go there,” The Doctor said.
“Well, how about we meet a famous painter? Do you know anypony interesting?” Ditzy asked.
“If I know someone interesting? Hoo boy, hold on tight!” The Doctor said as the TARDIS took off to the past.
END OF EPISODE 1
Author's Note
Episode 1 and it's longer than most people's... Limbs, all combined into one mega-limb. Anyways, this episode was obviously a parallel to the very first episode of new Doctor Who, where The Doctor meets Rose at a store, blows it up and they beat the Autons and the Nestene-whatever
if you're wondering, yes, I do mildly dislike myself for going for the obvious Derpy companion, but it could be worse: I could've went with the even more obvious, Roseluck.
Next Time: The Doctor, Ditzy and Chrome arrive at Baltimare, in the 18th century, where they meet with a famous painter who is being hunted by aliens. (Don't expect it to be like Vincent and The Doctor, I'm not good enough for that)
