The Walking Displaced: Season 1
Episode 1 - Awkward Talks
Load Full StoryNext ChapterSilence. It wasn’t an uncommon thing to have. But it was often enjoyed by one girl. She was eleven years old, with dark skin, black curly hair, and hazel eyes. She wore a long sleeved dirty and tattered cyan shirt and ripped jeans. A bloody blue and white cap with the letter D laid atop her head as she sat on an old knocked over refrigerator in the middle of town, and on the road.
She stayed there, in a ghost town. Almost all alone. Almost. Not too far behind her was a blonde woman with yellow eyes and lighter skin. She wore a white sleeveless shirt with a light turquoise hoodie over top, and camouflage cargo pants. With her was woman with curly golden hair, purple eyes, and almost white skin. This woman was wearing jeans, a navy blue shirt, and a navy jacket with golden lightning stripes upon it.
The woman with the jacket picked up her pace as a smile came to her face. “Hey Clementine, what do you call a cow with two legs?” she asks when she gets close enough to stand next to the fridge.
“I don’t know…” Clementine groaned in slight annoyance.
“Lean beef!” the woman bursts out as she falls to the ground laughing at her own joke.
“I don’t get it...” Clementine muttered.
“She likes puns. You may never get her since you lost your sense of humor.” The other woman said, carrying a bag over her shoulder. “Anyways, we’ve got a lotta food. We have one more stop before heading back home.”
“Where to, Lightning?” Clementine asked.
Lightning sighed. “We’ll be meeting up with Thunderlane’s crew by Ponyville Eastside Veterinary Hospital. We’ll be clearing out one of the medical wings of Walkers.”
Clementine nodded at that. “Okay.” Lightning smiled at the girl, before walking past the fridge. Clementine watched her walking by, and examined her back. There was a single wing that matched her jacket on her right shoulder blade. Surprise had two white wings, though, and Clementine knew why Lightning was missing a wing.
“Come on, let’s get back to the car! We don’t have all day!” Lightning announced. Clementine shook herself out of her zoning out and hopped off of the refrigerator, following Lightning.
Surprise then stood up and shouted, “Hey wait up for me!” as she spread her wings and used them to catch up to Lightning and Clementine. “I call Shotgun in the car.”
“Not like I’d let Clem in the shotgun.” Lightning replied with a playful smirk. The trio walked until they saw a Toyota Sienna parked in the middle of the empty road. It hadn’t been cleaned in a long time, leaving the windows the least filthiest surfaces on the whole car.
“We don’t have all day gang. Trixie’s group are gonna bring the Walkers back soon.” Lightning Dust shouted, making herself heard as she opened the door to the driver's seat and hopped inside, slamming the door. Surprise and Clementine followed her lead, getting in the passenger seat and left rear seat respectively.
Lightning started the car up, and began driving east. “So, what’s a Walker’s favorite toy, girls?” Surprise asks as she starts rummaging through her bag for something.
“Us…” Lightning Dust grumbled, clearly sensitive about the subject.
“A deady bear!” Surprise says as she pulls out a teddy bear with an explosive on its chest out of her bag.
Lightning looked for a split second and she slammed the breaks, causing everyone in the car the jerk forward.
“What the hell, Surprise!? Keep that stuff inside of your bag! Or better yet, not with us! You want to blow us up!?” Lightning seethed.
Clementine spoke without emotion. “Better than being bitten…”
Lightning turned to Clementine. “Now listen here. You will not speak like that. Do you hear me?” When the little girl nodded, Lightning sighed. “I swear, I’m the only adult here…”
“Well Clem does have a point.” Surprise mutters as she sets the timer on the bear, rolls down the window and chunks it out a safe distance. “I’m just trying to lighten the mood of you to depressed wannabes.”
Lightning slammed her foot on the gas. “What is wrong with you!? I didn’t mean start the bomb!” After getting a safe distance and watching the military grade weapon explode, Lightning slowed down. “Once we get back, I never want to gather with you again…”
“Such a spoil sport,” Surprise says “Besides that was my last bomb from the service, I used it because my Surprise sense was itching.”
“Why the Wonderbolts hired you and not me, I’ll never know…” Lightning sighed, shaking her head.
“Because I’m older that’s why.” Surprise states proudly as she sits back in her seat. “Now, remind me again but are we going to do a drive by of the Walkers that Trixie is leading around, or are we just going to head back with the stuff we got for now?”
“I already said, we’re helping Thunderlane’s crew with a veterinarian hospital. There might be some meds the doc can use.” Lightning explained.
“I feel sorry for Redheart from time to time.” Surprise says pulling out her pistol and checking the ammo, “Fuck, only four rounds left.”
“It’ll have to do. We have an AK-47 in the back just in case, but we’ll be using knives and any close ranged weapons to save ammunitions.” Lightning explained.
“But, I left my Wing Blades at base.” Surprise pouts crossing her arms over her chest, “So do you have anything to say Clem? I know it’s been hard on you since your pops croaked.”
“Surprise, it’s only been six months, give her some fucking space. We all lost someone, and we each take his loss hard.” Lightning said, glaring at Surprise. “She’s gone through a lot of trauma. You don’t just ask her-”
Clementine spoke up, cutting Lightning Dust off. “I’m fine. Thanks for asking.”
“You’re welcome Clementine.” Surprise says as she puts her Remington back into its holster.
Lightning Dust groaned. “Anyways, there’s a woodcutter's ax in the glove compartment, Surprise. Unlike you, I always carry a melee weapon. You never know when you run outta bullets and there are no more left. I don’t like trading bullets for rations.”
“Well sorry that Wing Blades get uncomfortable after wearing them for a prolonged period of time.” Surprise replies as she got out the ax, “This is more of a Hatchet than an ax.”
“Whatever know-it-all.” Lightning replied, rolling her eyes. The car was silent for a few minutes, and Clementine pulled out a glock 19 from between her feet.
Finally, the car pulled to a stop. Lightning Dust turned it off and got out and looked at Clementine.
“Stay here, sweetheart. I’ll be back soon.” Lightning Dust said, giving the unresponsive child a sincere smile.
“Okay, Dust...” Clementine responded. Lightning seemed disheartened, but closed the driver-side door before heading towards a tall building with a tan paint job. Next to said building was a black sports car with a dark skinned man on top of the lid, who had white/pale blue mohawk with yellow eyes and black wings, wearing only a white muscle shirt and blue jeans like Clementine, but lacking rips. Lightning Dust pulled out a sharp ended pipe from her backpack as she walked over to the man who was calmly smoking a cigarette.
Surprise turned around in her seat and looked at Clementine, “You do realize, how she feels toward you right? It would be kind of rude not to at least talk to her about what you want.”
“What I want, she can’t give. She’s treating me like I’m helpless. The only reason she decided to let me come was that Zecora told her to, and that there wasn’t any babysitters available.” Clementine said, louder than she’d been up til then.
“Then tell her that.” Surprise suggests as she leans forward and pats Clementine’s head, “I’m here for ya, especially if you want to ever go do something to prove to them that you’re to be taken seriously.”
“I’m fine… Right now, all I care about is making sure she’s alright.” Clementine said. “I may not act like it, but I care about her… I just… I can’t call her mom, not yet.”
Surprise nodded in understanding as she turned back around in her seat to sit properly, “Hey, have I ever told you the one about the jump rope?” she asked
“Please no…” Clementine groaned.
“Fine.” Surprise pouted crossing her arms before smirking, “We’ll Skip it.”
“Shouldn’t you be with Lightning?” Clementine asked.
“Personal rule of never leaving someone alone.” Surprise says with a shrug, “Besides, I get the vibe that she doesn’t like me that much since I was a part of the group that said she couldn’t be a Wonderbolt.”
“Lightning’s kinda glad though. She puts up a front that scares people off so she doesn’t get close. You’re new to the group, so you wouldn’t know. She and my dad were close, and when he died she closed herself off. It’s not hard to break through though.” Clementine stated as she watched the man and Lightning Dust talking. “It’s Thunderlane she doesn’t like that much, even if she doesn’t hate him.”
“What’s her issue with him?” She asked looking around for any Walkers
“I dunno, I think it’s because he hits on her.” Clementine said, “Though she doesn’t tell me everything.”
“Uh… That sorta tempts me to flirt with her just to see the reaction I get.” Surprise said with a smile.
Clementine stared at Surprise, dumbstruck. “You’re not a guy…”
“And you’re not fully grown. Your point?” Surprise asked leaning back and looking at Clementine with her head upside down.
“Dad told me about the birds and the bees and never said anything about girls and other girls… I guess I assumed…”
“It’s called being a Lesbian, or Bi.” Surprise said getting comfortable again. “I’m a Lesbian which means I only like girls and am one, while Bi reverses to girls that like both dicks and pussy.”
“Ew…” Clementine said, cringing at the genitalia word. “Surprise, Walkers!” She pointed outside of the car, where five Walkers saughtered silently up toward Thunderlane and Lightning Dust, who were unsuspecting.
“We’ll continue this insightful conversation later, then.” Surprise stated as she stepped out of the car quietly. She then drew her Remington and shot the one closest to Lightning and Thunderlane in the head, getting the two’s attention.
Lightning turned around and rushed towards one, pointed pipe in hand. She jammed it into the forehead of the nearest walking corpse, causing whatever indistinguishable gender it once was to topple to the pavement.
Thunderlane copied her, but with a long kitchen knife to the top of a female Walkers head, and it too fell. They repeated the process until they were all gone, and Lightning gave the two in the car a thumbs up.
“You’re welcome for the warning, ya tight assed hoe.” Surprise calls out to Lightning as she gets back into the car. “Next time, I’m bringing my babies.”
Lightning Dust raised her middle finger to Surprise, before opening the door to the building and walking in, followed by Thunderlane.
Clementine and Surprise sat in the car in silence. Until Clementine spoke up.
“I don’t like Thunderlane. He smokes in the house and it’s obnoxious.”
“The only good I see to having him around is to ride once in awhile.” Surprise said, “Otherwise I wholeheartedly agree with ya.”
“He doesn’t give good piggy-back rides…” Clementine said in response, oblivious.
“Not what I meant, but whatever works in your tiny little head.” Surprise said with a chuckle.
“You’re weird…” Clementine stated.
“And I won’t deny it.” Surprise said checking her pistol again. “Down to three.”
“You’ll get more. You waste them too much.” Clementine stated. “So… Did you have a girlfriend before this?”
“Yeah…” Surprise says with a sigh, “I had to shoot her wonderfully blazing orange head when all this started.” Clementine looked away, unable to respond. “Don’t worry I just need to ride a guy once or twice and find a new girl to be with and I’ll be fine.”
“I still don’t get it…” Clementine said dully.
“Didn’t you say that your pops told you about the birds and the bees?” Surprise asks
“Wait, you mean…” Clementine made a hole with her right index and thumb, while motioning her left index to go in and out of said hole.
“Yup,” Surprise said smirking, “Honestly it’s almost heaven if you get the right guy, one with the right equipment that just fills you up and hits all the right spots.”
“Alright, that's it, you’re grossing me out.” Clementine said.
But soon, to her relief, Lightning Dust came out of the building with Thunderlane, a younger boy with purple eyes and black hair, wearing a grey sweater and black sweats, and a pink haired girl with teal eyes, wearing a long yellow sundress. The latter two worked on putting the supplies in the sports car, before the boy ran over to Surprise and Clementine, hopping into the back seat.
“Hey Clem!” The boy said.
“Hi Rumble.” Clementine replied.
“Sup, Rum?” Surprise asked with a grin.
“Uh, nothing much. My big brother used my seat to hold the supplies, so I’m riding with you.” Rumble stated, smiling.
“What about the girl?” Surprise asked pointing at the girl in the sundress, “She riding with us, or would she get upset if I got a hold of your brother for an evening.”
“It’s Fluttershy’s car.” Rumble said, amused. “No matter how much Thunderlane says otherwise. And yeah, they’re a couple.”
“Fuck.” Surprise muttered to herself as she sat forward in her seat and waited for Lightning Dust.
It wasn’t long, and soon Lightning Dust was back inside of the car. “Never call me a hoe again, bitch.” She seethed, starting the car up.
“You still have a wonderfully tight ass though.” Surprise stated with a smirk, “Nice and firm I’m guessing.”
“Puns and sexual harassment. No wonder you’re single.” Lightning Dust jabbed verbally as she began driving. “Bet you were waiting for this apocalypse to happen.”
“I’m single right now because I had to shoot my old Girlfriend.” Surprise deadpanned in response.
“And it’s been a year since. How’re you holding up?” Lightning Dust teased.
“Yep, you pissed her off…” Clementine said calmly.
“You know as well as I do the ratio of male to female on this planet. The apocalypse has made it even harder to find an open ride.” Surprise said before going silent in fuming anger.
“And look at you now, hitting on a grounded Pegasus. You must be desperate.” Lightning snarked. “Maybe you should get to know be before hitting on me. You’re already suffering!”
“Lightning, that’s enough.” Clementine said sternly, and Dust quieted.
Surprise smiled knowing that Clementine stood up for her. She then continued to watch the scenery fly by as they drove.
Little did they know what they were coming back to...
