Episode 3 - A Long Walk

Previous Chapter

Clementine walked along the highway, passing rundown cars left and right. It was late, almost nightfall, and she didn’t want to walk into any Walkers on her journey. She stopped by a car with an open window, and peered inside.

There were no traces of any undead, so she assumed that the owner got out when Canterlot went up in flames or something. She crawled into the car’s open window, and searched the backseat, and found to her delight an unopened bottle of water. She grabbed it, and rolled up the window until there was only a crack. She opened the water, before drinking it’s stale liquid.Clementine sighed, thinking of Lightning Dust, Surprise, Rumble, and Fluttershy. She hoped they were okay beyond any feeling of self preservation she had. Suddenly, Clementine heard a loud *boom.“What the?” Clementine couldn’t think of what the sound could have meant…* But she didn’t feel scared for some reason, and just stayed put and decided to dive into her backpack for a snack.

“Ugh… I need to work on those landings in new universe’s.” A voice said as the dust from the crash settled. When it was clear, there was what appeared to be a small anthropomorphic goat child, who was wearing a green sweater with a large yellow stripe in the center, and black pants, with nothing else on.After the strange child brushed the dust off of them from the crash, they looked around, noticing a lack of people. “Huh… these universe’s I see are usually *inhabited.” The goat child commented to himself as he saw a car, noting that there were many that seemed to have no drivers and were rusting over. The world around him also seemed somewhat bleary and cold, almost hostile-like.“I got a bad feeling about this world.” He muttered to himself, before deciding to search the closest rusted car. To his surprise, there was someone inside the car. A girl, eating M&M’s alone and staring straight ahead.Tilting his head, he knocked on the door of the car. She jumped, and pulled out a pistol as she turned to him. She froze at his sight, though, surprised and almost looking horrified.“Howdy!” He said cheerfully, not in the slightest disturbed by the gun, knowing that the weapon likely couldn’t do anything to him as he was, giving a cheerful wave to the girl. She kept still, unsure how to respond. “Are you alright?” He continued when he saw that she wasn’t responding, tilting his head and giving her a worried look. She then began to scream and shoot at him, breaking the glass. He yelped, dodging by throwing himself back and out of the way of the bullets, a little surprised at the sudden hostile response.“Whoa, calm down!” The goat-child exclaimed, raising his hands in a non-threatening gesture.“What are you!?” Clementine screamed, still pointing her gun at him.“My species is called a goat BossMonster, but my name’s Asriel.” The now named Asriel said, not moving from his position.“There’s no such thing…” Clementine said, shaking.“I can promise you I’m not lying.” He said calmly. “I don’t want to hurt you anyway, I don’t really know what’s going on around here besides everything looks deserted… what happened?”Clementine stared at him, before saying, “Wait… Are you from a place called Earth? And you were turned into… Whatever you are?”“Yep, I’m a displaced, just like you!” He said, smiling as the tension lowered a little.“My dad told me about other Displaced… I’ve never met one though…” Clementine said.“Cool.” Asriel said simply, slowly and cautiously lowering his hands. “So, what’s going on around here?” He asked.“Oh, right, you’re from another world… Everyone died.” Clementine said nonchalantly. “Everything went to shit when my dad and I showed up. Not everyone’s dead, the the masses are go-” Clementine stopped when she heard a garbled and unnatural hiss, and saw a trio of Walkers come out of the forest.Recognition flashed in Asriel’s eyes at the sight of the walkers. “Oh, it’s a walking dead universe.” He muttered quietly to himself, before looking at Clementine. “That doesn’t have much ammo left, does it?” Clementine shook her head.“I got this then.” He said simply, throwing one of his arms forward, small multi-colored stars shooting out of the palm of his hand and flying forward, going through the trio of walkers heads.“Why can’t I have a cool power…” Clementine whispered, but looked in awe.“Well, I guess you just weren’t lucky.” Asriel said with a shrug. “So, do you have a group or something? We should probably get to them before more walkers come.”“We got separated awhile back. I’m going to a place where we said we’d go if something bad ever happened.” Clementine stated.“Cool, mind if I tag along?” Asriel asked, tiling his head. “You might need me, more walkers could come by!”“With your volume, I wouldn’t be surprised.” Clementine joked, crawling out of the car and grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. “Fine. What’s your name?”“It’s Asriel.” He said with a smile. “Lead the way!”“You don’t even know me…” Clementine said.“I’m confident that anything that could actually hurt me is way out of your reach.” He said casually, smile still on his face. “OH! I never asked for your name, sorry, what’s your name?”“Clementine.” She replied, “Can’t remember my real one though.”“I remember mine… I just prefer Asriel.” Asriel said with a shrug. “So, how far is this place?”“Nine miles that way.” Clementine said, pointing to the direction she was heading before getting into the car. “But we’ll need a place to stay for the night.”Asriel tilted his head, looking around at the gathered cars and getting an idea, a smile slowly growing on his face. “I may have an idea.” He said, moving over to one of the cars.“What?” Clementine asked.“I’m going to stake these up and use some fire magic to make us a little metal hut for the night.” He said, excitement in his voice as he grabbed one, lifting it and going to another.“That sounds dumb…” Clementine muttered.Asriel blatantly ignored her criticism, simply grabbing a bunch of cars before walking over to the side and setting them down. Next, he started ripping some of the roofs off of the cars, then setting them down on the ground after flattening them.Next, he ignited a flame, it coming out of a finger and fusing the tiles of the floor together, before moving back to the cars and ripping them apart, making sure to keep the more comfortable insides intact, before making thick metal walls on the edges of the floor with a metal door, fusing it all together before making a roof that supported itself without a pillar in the middle of the ‘room’ of the little hut, stepping back and smiling proudly at his work when he was done.Clementine sighed, “Whatever…” She laid on the ground, attempting to relax. “Get the underside…”“I did that first, remember?” He asked, stepping inside and tapping the metal floor with his foot. “Come on in! I turned the seats into really comfy beds.” He said, chuckling as he went in and started jumping on one.“You seem a bit too giddy.” Clementine said, walking in and sitting down on the “bed”. “Why are you always happy?”“Monsters are made of positive things, so it’s hard to be negative when I really don’t want to be.” Asriel said with a shrug, flopping and sitting on the bed. “Hey, you hungry?” He asked, tilting his head.“Yeah…” Clementine responded.“What'cha hungry for?” Asriel asked.“I don’t know. You have something?” Clementine asked.“I have some stuff from where I was before, just gimme a sec.” He said, seeming to reach into nothingness, before pulling out what looked like fresh french fries. “I got some fries, you want some?”“Uh… I’m good.” Clementine replied, searching through her backpack and pulled out a protein bar. “You probably shouldn’t stay here long, the virus is airborn.”“I’ll be fine, I’m a completely different species than you, so first it has nothing to work with in an attempt to infect me, and I’m made of *magic** so it has nothing to really stay on anyway.” He said, shrugging and eating the fries, inwardly glad that there was nothing else in his inventory for the virus to get on.They talked for hours until Clementine finally fell asleep. Asriel shrugged, smiling as he put a protective barrier around the hut, before laying down in his own bed, following her into slumberland.

The next morning, the two set off. “So, how long do you think it’ll take us, walking, to get there?” Asriel asked as they walked, looking around and enjoying the scenery.        “Well, we’ve walked one mile, so at this rate we’ll reach there at about noon.” Clementine replied. “I hope.”“I could *fly* us there.” Asriel offered. “Just point me in the right direction.”        “We’re heading that way, then we take a right after two miles if the map says anything.” Clementine said. Asriel nodded, before swooping her up bridal style, floating up before shooting forwards. Clementine screamed in surprise.

“Are we close to the place?” Asriel asked about thirty minutes later, still flying.“We juuuust past it.” Clementine said, looking down. “It’s that old warehouse.” Asriel stopped, backing up mid air and floating down, right next to a door into the warehouse.“Cool, so they should be here, right? Or were we too fast?” Asriel asked with a playful smirk.“Most likely that.” Clementine replied. “Thank you, Asriel.”“Welcome.” He said cheerfully, smiling, going over to the door. “So, are we gonna go in?” He asked, tilting his head.“No, there are Walkers inside. I want them to see me outside.” Clementine replied.“Okay, I guess we wait then?” Asriel asked, going over to a fallen tree and sitting on it.“You can go though.” Clementine stated.“I wanna hang out with you more though.” He said, pouting and crossing his arms. “Your fun.”“No I’m not, I shot at you.” Clementine replied.“I don’t mind… I regularly spar with someone that does something similar when we do, it’s fine.” Asriel said with a shrug. “So, what do ya wanna do while we wait?”“You do things while you wait?” Clementine asked, shocked.“Of course, otherwise it’s just boring.” Asriel said simply. “So, whatcha wanna do?”“There’s nothing to do…” Clementine deadpanned.“I wouldn’t say that.” Asriel said with a smirk, pulling out a small device. Clementine peered over his shoulder to examine the device.“What’s that?” She asked.“A 2DS.” Asriel said. “It’s something to play games on as you travel, or just around.” He explained as he put a game in it.“What’s a game?” Clementine questioned. “It sounds familiar.”“It’s something to entertain you over a long period of time.” He explained as the game started up. “I won’t turn the sound on, so I don’t attract any walkers, but for now the pictures should be just as good.” Clementine stared at the screen, enchanted by the moving pictures.*A few hours, and several games later…* “Do you want to try this one?” Asriel asked after he had beaten another game, holding the small device out to her.Out of nowhere, a car pulled up to the fence of the warehouse.“That’s them!” Clementine shouted, smiling in relief and happiness.“Cool.” Asriel said, turning the hand-held off and putting it away. “I wonder if they’ll shoot at me like you did.”“Not funny.” She grunted.“CLEMENTINE! You’re okay!” comes the voice of Surprise as she gets out of the car and flew over pulling Clementine into a hug, “When that pipe bomb went off in Flutter’s car we were all so worried. Lightening was almost in tears.” Surprise’s wing then flared out with a hiss of metal as she pointed her wing blade at Asriel’s throat, “Lastly, for now, who the fuck are you?”“My names Asriel.” He said with a smiled, not disturbed by the blades in the slightest.“What are you and what are you doing here?” Surprise questioned while the others were getting out of the car and working on getting the gate opened, Lightning Dust desperately.“He helped me get here! And he says he’s a… Goatboss from another universe…” Clementine said, though twirled her finger in a ‘he’s crazy’ motion.“Because that’s totally the strangest thing that’s happened to you so far.” Asriel said jokingly.Surprise looks Asriel up and down suspiciously before she asked, “How much of a Boss are you in bed?”“Surprise, get this gate open!” Lightning shouted.“Fine,” Surprise stated before flying over and cutting the chain with her wing blade, “Just know that I did that just because I like having your cute ass near me.”“Shut… The fuck… Up…” Lightning snarled, before rushing to Clementine and tackling her into a hug, her wing flaring.“This is all amusing to me.” Asriel commented, chuckling as he simply watched all of this happen, before looking at Lightning and tilting his head. “Hey… what happened to your wing?” He asked.Lightning glared at the goat boy, her wing folding back behind her. “S-sorry, nevermind.” He said, seeing her reaction.“So, how about we hurry along before the Walkers inside hear us?” Surprise asked as she started walking over closer to the warehouse.“Sure.” Asriel said, following.“You’re not coming with us…” Lightning Dust said, glaring at Asriel.“Why not?” He asked, tilting his head.“We don’t know you… And I don’t want your kind around Clementine.” Lightning whispered to him, her eyes dark. Clementine meanwhile was talking to Quibble Pants in the car.“That totally didn’t sound racist at *all.” Asriel commented.“Your kind, as in *Displaced.” Lightning corrected. “I won’t let you corrupt her into being weak. So leave.”“Isn’t that kinda hard since Clementine is a Displaced as well?” Surprise interjected as she looked in the warehouse at the Walkers which all seemed idle.“She is, but if she thinks that other Displaced will save her every time she’s in danger, she’ll get sloppy. And she could start acting like you, which means she’d start helping everyone she meets without thought.” Lightning snarled.“You don’t like nice me?” Asriel questioned, tilting his head.“Or me? I thought I had some assets you liked to look at once in awhile.” Surprise said as she walked back over.“I haven’t even really done that much, the most I’ve done so far is kill three walkers.” Asriel continued, shrugging.“Clementine’s father told me the weakness of most Displaced. They’re too heroic, and self absorbed. And I promised that I’d protect her, even from your kind.” Lightning Dust said, eyes narrow.“Too heroic?” Asriel questioned, a disturbing smile forming on their face. “Then you’ll just* LOVEmeeting my *other form.”“Get out. You helped Clementine, but she doesn’t need any help. And if you do anything, then Clementine will** hate you. Maybe if things are better, you can come back, but I won’t have her rely on you.” Lightning said coldly. “This isn’t your world.”“Actually, she hasn’t really accepted much of my help.” Asriel said with a shrug. “But whatever, I guess if you're so set on me leaving I will.” Asriel added loudly enough for everyone to hear.“What are you doing, Lightning!?” Clementine shouted angrily while Lightning stared emptily at Asriel. Asriel could tell that there was nothing in her eyes, not one emotion.“Nothing Clem, just see if you and Quibble can find Fluttershy and Rumble!” Lightning Dust said, but her face made no change. She then whispered, “You think that just because she doesn’t accept means that you aren’t babying her? You got her here. Without wings or a car, that’s impossible unless you brought her here. Stay away from my baby girl, you hear?”“I will stay away when she wants me to.” Asriel said simply with a shrug, before tilting his head with a worried frown. “Your SOUL seems… damaged.” He commented.“I don’t need your analysis. Here’s mine: you have no right to be here. She might think she wants you, but even her father knew better. You’re not good for her, and you should know it.” She then bent over to his level. Lightning added. “You have your own home anyways.”“Yeah, I do need to go back to protecting my own universe.” He admitted, shrugging and winking at her. “But I got one last thing to give before I go.” He said, turning and walking towards Clementine.Lightning held out her hand. “Give it to me. I know what it is. I’ll give it to her when she’s ready.” Asriel tilted his head, before shrugging. He glowed as he grew to tower over her, stretching as his robe appeared on him.“Feels good to be back in this form.” He commented as he reached up to one of his horns, grunting and ripping it off, putting a little energy into it. “Here, just say ‘Asriel Dreemurr’ whenever you need me.” He said, holding it out for her as his horn grew back in a flash of green.Clementine stood frozen, horrified. Lightning took the horn and cleared her throat. “You might want to leave. Now.”“Alright alright, bye Clem!” He called cheerfully, waving and smiling before he was gone in a flash.Lightning Dust stood still for a moment, before tossing the Token towards the warehouse. She then turned and began walking towards the car.“Let’s move on. Fluttershy and Rumble know where we’re going.” Lightning commanded, jumping into the car.

Fluttershy coughed as she regained consciousness. The first thing she noticed was that she was in a small room. The next was that the more severe cuts along her body were stitched. The last thing was the person hovering over her. Someone she thought was dead. Someone she cared for.The woman who stood over her stared back at her, with baby blue eyes that felt chilly looking into them. Her long, pink flat hair all over her face. She wore a black top with a damaged locket around her neck in the shape of a balloon, and a short checkered skirt. Her smile was different than what Fluttershy remembered. It was forced.“Hello Shy…” Her cool voice said, before her hand removed some of Fluttershy’s hair from her face. “It’s been far too long.”
