Strider awoke to a sunny clear day. She got up made her bed washed up and trotted out to one of her gardens. She smiled as she looked through the rows of plants tell she found a nice head of cabbage, picked it and walked back to her house. She lived on a old airfield from all the way back when humans walked the planet, it was big and she even found some things from the past. She stopped at her mail box and found a letter and mumbled, "I'm not coming back to Canterlot."
Strider put the letter on her table and went head and made herself some food and sat down at the table to eat. As she ate something kept telling her she should read the letter and she gave in with a sigh. She opened the letter and read it.
"To Strider Sky, I'm so sorry we didn't see eye to eye but I thought it would best and I know you didn't like the idea but that's what being a Past Finder is about and some times you must take risks and your friend knew that." She put the letter down, it was from her sister and well she may have gotten the fact that Strider won't come back to Canterlot to hunt for relics of the past, she still thought she did nothing wrong.
Strider looked at the clock and realised the market would open soon, she got up and got her saddlebags on and got her cart full of fruit and vegetables she grew.
She thought about the event that led to the falling out her and her sister had well she walked down the long trail that led into the town of Crystal Falls. It happened three years ago when her, her sister Strafe and, her very best friend Dusty where checking a lead for the Canterlot Relic Recovery Service (CRRS) and they had to go down into a cave that had a wind current running through it. The normal way of going in would be to have a pegasus fly each pony in but Strafe who was the only pegasus was to weak of a flyer, so instead her sister had them climb in by rope and Dusty went first. Half way down he fell and got paralyzed in his hind legs and the CRRS just dropped him no aid or anything, soon after that was when she left.
The sound of fillies laughing brought Strider back to the real world she was in the market. She quickly got set up and ready to sell her crops. The day went by slowly but when she sold her last item just past noon she loaded up and walked back up to her home unsure if she dared to read the letter any more. As she got close to her home she looked into the Crystal Mountains and wished she could fly so she could see with her own eyes what they were like.
She got to her home opened her shed put her cart into it and went about her normal every day things. She watered the gardens, pulled weeds but even through she was busy she still was wondering about the letter and what it said but she kept working tell it started getting dark. She grabbed two potatoes and went into her house were she washed them peeled them then mashed them for supper, as they were cooking she walked the to her window that faced the sunset and watched it.
The sun slowly dipped behind a mountain peak hiding the sun but filling the sky with crisp amber rays of light, it looked so inspiring. She dished up her food and sat down to eat, it was good but not the best she had but then again cooking wasn't what she was good at she was good at reverse engineering thing not art or cooking but she still tried and had fun doing so. The night went on slowly as she looked through the things she collected over the years one was a long knife that was seventeen inches long and the blade had holes cut through it making it unique in the pony world, sitting next to it was a picture of her, Strafe and Dusty taken on the day they found the knife.
She missed that life the adventures the places you see the things you did and the ponies you meet it was joyful well tell the day Dusty fell. She sighed what good was thinking about the past when you had so much in front of you. She walked in to her bathroom and looked in the mirror, the days had taken a toll on her. She got in the shower, cleaned herself up then got out and looked at the mirror, she combed out her dark blue mane and brushed her snow white coat. After she finished and was about to get in bed she heard a knock from the front door and when she opened the there standing at her door was the mail pony.
He levitated out a letter and said, "Sorry for any inconvenience but this letter got mixed up in the mail and wasn't delivered so here you go." Strider smiled and the pony walked away, she closed the door and went and got in bed but instead of going to sleep she opened the letter and read.
"Dear sweet Strider. This is Dusty, I hope life is treating you better than me and I don't really know how to say this" She noticed a mark on the letter that looked like it was caused by a water droplet, she continued, "but I feel you should know this. I am" She stopped as tears welled up in her eyes, she had feared this for so long hoping for a letter saying I can walk again but not this she felt like she was bucked in the guts. She didn't know if she should continue or not, she swallowed and read on, "dieing the doctors finally told me the full truth" a tear dropped onto the letter and she wanted to stop but she couldn't, "that I had been slowly dieing since I fell. THEY LIED TO ME! They said I would live a full life, and now they're saying I got six to twelve moons. If so if this is true I want to ask you something"
Strider silently said "Anything."
The letter went on "This maybe weird but we been friends for years so will you please marry me?" Strider dropped the letter on the bed shocked. Yes she thought, by now the tears were running down her face as she slowly fell asleep.
Author's Note
Well here we are what a change compared to my other story but I love how this turned out and hope to write/type more.
Strider awoke to a loud Crack of thunder as rain pelted her windows, she stretched and got up. The clock on her wall said it was 5 o'clock. Being it was still early she tried to go back to bed but to no avail so she. walked to her bathroom and looked in the mirror. She was a mess her mane was going every which way and her coat around her eyes was matted from last night. She cleaned up and as she walked out of her bathroom she noticed the letter from Dusty on her bed, she sighed and grabbed it. She brought the letter out into her kitchen grabbing a quill and sheet of paper on her way. She sat at her table and began writing a responds.
"Dear Dusty its Strider. I got you letter and all I can say is yes I will marry you" She stopped did she REALLY want to, She did find him attractive and she really enjoyed his company but to get married? That is different. Where would it take place? Who would pay for it? Who would come? All these questions spun in her head tell a voice snapped her back to real life.
"Say yes, you love him," The voice said and at first she thought she was hearing things but then the voice said, "Do you have a towel?"
Strider turned to see the pony she kinda hoped to never see again, her sister Strafe. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE!" Strider yelled as fresh tears started running down her face. Her sister didn't move as she got up and pointed at her and yelled, "THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT! IF IT WASN'T FOR YOU HE WOULD BE HEALTHY AND NOT DYING! YET YOU AND THOSE STUPID STUCK UP PONIES AT CANTERLOT THINK THAT NOTHING WRONG HAS HAPPENED!" Each word stung but Strafe didn't move tell Strider was right in front of her, tears running down her face.
Strider suddenly collapsed and Strafe swiftly caught her and carried her to her bed and lied her down well Strafe sat with Strider's head on her lap slowly running her hoof over her mane. The words Strider spoke hurt Strafe and she to let some tears run down her face but she knew that the fighting had to stop if Strider and Dusty were going to get married and she was willing to take any anger Strider would throw at her. As Strider slept Strafe watched out the bedroom window. She looked at the mountains and the shadows they cast when there was a flash of lighting. Something caught her eye at the end of the runway. The cliff side at the end of the runway was covered in vines and plants. As a bolt of lighting shot across the sky, she noticed a reflection on the cliff, this peeked her interest.
Ten minutes passed before Strider woke and Strafe was ready Strider to start yelling at her. Instead of getting angry Strider pulled Strafe into a hug and cried saying, "I'm sorry I'm so sorry for yelling."
"It's okay I know you are upset and I understand why. I just want it to stop for Dusty's sake and I feel you should marry him." Strafe said hugging her sister back. Strider didn't say anything so Strafe said, "Let's go outside in the rain like when we were little fillies?"
A muffled "Sure." Came from Strider as she pulled her face away from Strafe's chest. She got up and they both walked to the front door and opened it. It was lightly raining but that didn't stop the two sisters. As Strider walked out into the rain it felt like everything was just washed off, no anger, no regret, no sorrow, just joy. She didn't know why but as she looked at her sister who she could see in the dim light, was flying. She couldn't help herself, she ran at Strafe jump and grabbed her tail with her hoofs giggling. Strafe at first was caught off guard but soon started laughing to, as for a hour they chased each other up and down the airfield in the rain. Strafe flew low so Strider could catch her but after crack of lighting she noticed Strider wasn't chasing her bit instead looking at the cliff at the end of the runway.
"Something wrong?" Strafe asked.
By now the sun was peeking over the mountain tops. "No I just saw something that's all." Strider said walking towards it. As they got close Strafe flew up to it and moved some vines and knocked on it and what she got stunned her and Strider. It sounded like she just knocked on a big medal door. "WHAT IS THIS THING!" Strider said alarmed.
"Maybe if we get these vines down, we can see what it is. Do you have any cutters?" Strafe asked.
"I do there in the shed." Strider pointed at a small shed a quarter of the way down the airfield. Strafe flew down and got them and began cutting. It took half a hour to cut and clear away the vines but it was worth it as what stood in front of them was a huge medal door that was almost twice the as wide as the runway. "Hey what's this?" Strider asked walking to the left side of the door to a little square with buttonson it.
"I got this I read about these before." Strafe said as she covered the object with her wing to shield it from the light rain. After a few minutes she said, "If I'm remembering correctly if we touch these." There was a spark then the door shuttered and slow lowered into the ground.
As dust fell off the door Strider asked, "So you know what this thing is?"
"No but that is used in some of the most important human structures. Which means who knows what's on the other side." Strafe said with a huge smile.
The door was almost all the way down when Strider but a hoof on her sister and said, "Please don't tell the CRRS."
Strafe nodded and said, "Something this size? I wouldn't dream of it."
Both ponies stood there as the door lowered, once all the way the object inside was nothing short of unbelievable.
Dusty lay on his bed when a mare dressed in a red and white outfit handed him a letter. He opened it and it read, "Dear Dusty, it's Strider I agree to marry you and me and my sister have kinda gotten back together and will be coming to get you as we have one heck of a surprise. Love Strider." Dusty smiled holding the letter to his chest as a tear ran down his cheek.
