The Rare-est of Feelings

It was a calm and simple day in the pleasant town of Ponyville. On this nice sunny day, Spike, the local lovable town dragon was headed to Rarity's boutique with a stack of chocolates in his hands and the biggest grin anypony had seen. Of course, everypony in town who knew Spike at all knew that he was going to try to win the heart of the white unicorn in question; Today would be the day that he would reveal his not-so-secret feelings to Rarity.
As Spike knocked on the door of the boutique, he could hear the fashionista in question. "Just a minute!" he heard her say. Once Rarity opened the door, she cast a huge grin on her face,
" Oh, Spike!" she exclaimed with delight, " It's so great to see you and... Oh! You brought me chocolates! You are the sweetest thing! Please do come in!" Spike proceeded to walk in to the "organized chaos" as Rarity would call it. As soon as Spike had enter though, he had started shaking nervously, Rarity immediately had noticed this and tried to calm Spike down. " Spikey? Are you ok? You look almost as nervous as the time I developed a crush on that Blueblood character?"
".....oh yeah..." Spike managed to say, " Well.... you see.. I..uh.." Spike stammered. " Spike, you're blowing it! Man...er...Dragon up!" his conscious self told him. " Rarity... the carnival is in town and I was wondering..uh... would..you like to go with me??".
As soon as those words came out, Rarity's smile had vanished into a dreaded look of pity. " Oh... Spike, Darling....this is not easy to say, but I already have a date to the carnival."
Spike looked like he was about ready to ball up and moan for several hours, "...a date? Oh, that's....that's lovely."
" Spikey? Are you going to be ok???" Rarity questioned with that of a worried mother being concerned for her child; and yet, all Spike could reply with was, "...well....good luck tonight...I'll be fine.", and quickly left without a second thought.
Spike soon arrived back to the castle with tears in his eyes. The princess of friendship herself, Twilight Sparkle saw Spike in a time of sadness and rushed quickly to his comfort. " Spike? What's wrong? Twilight asked, " Upset tummy? You lost a gemstone? Garble's coming?!?!".
" No, something MUCH worse, so bad it makes Garble look like a stuffed teddy bear!" Spike cried, " Rarity's going on a date!".
" Oh......no?" Twilight questioned, " Shouldn't Rarity be allowed to date?"
" Well, yeah...but....".
" You're upset because it's not you, right?" Twilight asked with concern.
" Well.......maybe."
" Spike, I know this is tough for you, but you shouldn't be upset because she's not with you, you should be happy that a good friend like Rarity can be happy with somepony of her own."
"Yeah, I guess.", and just then, Spike got an idea, a wonderfully awful idea with a smirk included.
Twilight immediately noticed this and began to give Spike an accusatory glare; " Spike, you 're not going to go down to the carnival spying on Rarity...are you?"
"pfffft....like I'd do that. C'mon Twi, I'd never do that." Spike boasted. Spike's conscious mind also backed this up, " Yeah, I'd never do that to Rarity.....without getting a couple churros first.".

Chapter 2: A Rarity Revelation
Later that evening, Spike managed to sneak out to the carnival, unbeknownst to Twilight, who was tasked with handling pony affairs in the central grounds with Princess Celestia ( who was hot because sun goddess.). Spike was jealous to say the least with steams of smoke blaring out of his nostrils and his teeth grinding like nails on a chalkboard; " This so- called stallion better take good care of Rarity!" Spike thought as he stepped through the festival with thuds coming from each step he took.
There, in the distance, laid two ponies, one of which appeared to be a unicorn. Spike pinpointed the pair down and caught up to them in 10 seconds flat. Spike immediately saw the touching of hooves and stepped in front of....... Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy......with a unicorn shaped balloon. " AHA!!... Wait?! Rainbow Dash?! Fluttershy?!!?! What're you doing here?!"
The couple's eyes grew triple their size and cheeks grew red as Spike caught them in the midst of their date. " Oh, hey Spike..... We were just..." Fluttershy began, "
.....doing our....taxes together....." Rainbow Dash finished with sweat pouring down her head. "
You guys are at a carnival.....doing your taxes???" questioned Spike who was not buying the couple's attempt at secrecy. "
"I'll give you 10 bits to forget this" said Rainbow Dash.
"20" countered Spike. "
" I'll give you 30" Rainbow Dash exclaimed as Fluttershy gave herself a face hoof.
" Deal" agreed a confident Spike. After the exchange, Rainbow and Fluttershy walked away with their date still intact.
" We really need to work on your negotiating skills" demanded Fluttershy with Rainbow's face being a dark shade of red.
Finally, at the corner of his eye, Spike caught a marshmallow unicorn all by herself, walking with precision and tactfulness as she was trying to avoid being seen. Spike could care less about this though and ran as fast as he ever did in his life, " Where's the stallion gone off to?!" demanded Spike.
Rarity immediately jumped and attempted to calm Spike down, " Spike...shhhsh... calm...down..." , this only made Spike more tense as he was losing his patience,
" No!!!!! Where is this guy! Did he hurt you?!?!? Trip you?!?!? Get your coat dirty?!?!?!?". Rarity got very flustered by the embarrassment Spike was putting on her, just one more outburst.... " did he try to kiss you?!?!?!", that did it.
" SPIKE! SHUT UP! IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, HE STOOD ME UP, JUST LIKE HOW EVERY DATE GOES!!!!!!!!! I GOT REJECTED!!! THERE, ARE YOU HAPPY?!?!!?!?!?!!?!!!!!!!!". After that extremely loud outburst, Rarity took off galloping with tears in her eyes as every pony paused what they were doing and watched the scene that occurred.
Spike wanted to be happy nothing serious happened, but he just couldn't force any positive emotion as tears filled his eyes as well, " Rejected?!?? Just like every time?!?!".

Chapter 3: An Emotional Epilogue
Spike now began the epic search for the pony he cared about; nothing would stop him from doing what needed to be done. He search high and low for that one dame he needed to talk to. There, at the carnival pavilions was the marshmallow unicorn in question with 2 eaten cartons of ice cream( Fashionistas like ice cream because who doesn't like ice cream?) . Spike knew that while Rarity tended to get over emotional, the feelings were at real stakes here.
Spike sat down on the bench right next to where Rarity was seated. Rarity starting sniffling before she spoke in a shaky, yet beaten tone, " What now Spike?!?! Haven't you done enough?". While Spike tensed at the previous remark, he quickly forgot about it as he spoke with the confidence he rarely had.
" Rarity, no words can express how sorry I am. I was jealous when I heard you were going on this date tonight and I overreacted, I don't know if I can make it up to you but I do know you shouldn't be here, sad and alone."
Rarity looked at him with a sympathetic look and said, " Spike, I don't know if we should da......"
Rarity was cut off by the bang of a small dragon fist on the table, " I DON'T CARE ABOUT THAT ANYMORE! I DON'T WANT TO DATE YOU BECAUSE OF WHAT I WANT! I WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY WITH WHOM YOU CHOOSE! CARING FOR A FRIEND IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN A SILLY GREEDY CRUSH AND I'M SORRY IT TOOK ME THIS LONG TO REALIZE IT!!" Spike roared as Rarity stood wide eyed at the bold scene that was just produced.
" I want what makes you happiest, because seeing you happy makes me happy as well." said Spike with one last tear in the corner of his eye. Rarity immediately began to cry... but with tears of joy instead.
" Oh, Spike!" sang Rarity as she enveloped the dragon in a hug. " You are the sweetest pony...er...dragon... anyone could ask for."
" Anytime, anytime at all" replied Spike whom felt great joy upon bringing the pony he cared for to smile once again.
Later that night.... Twilight walked back to the castle to find a jolly Spike writing in the magical friendship journal, ( now available for $19.99 at Toys R Us, does not contain real pony.) . " What'cha doing Spike??" asked a curious Twilight.
" Writing an important friendship lesson that you taught me." bragged Spike as he wrote down everything he learned.
" Really?" asked Twilight.
" Yep." Spike began, " I learned that sometimes you need to put away your own jealousy in order to support the ones you care about." glimmered Spike as he put down the final word of his entry.
Twilight couldn't help but be proud of her faithful assistant, " Well, I'm glad you learned a valuable life lesson" boasted Twilight as she hugged Spike and quickly heard change rattling in his pockets. " Where'd you get all those bits??" questioned a curious Twilight.
" Ummmmm.... Taxes??" replied Spike as he took the journal and ran to his room, leaving a confused, yet happy alicorn.
