Octavia could not believe it, she was flabbergasted. This must have been a joke played on her, they hadn’t even been in a courtroom. She hadn't even spoken to a lawyer.
“Now, before I continue, I must let you know that cases for your kind do not need your attendance in court for a verdict. The evidence of from the clinic and your apartment was more than substantial enough to find a verdict.”
“Your punishments are just, I assure you.” Octavia wouldn’t believe Celestia herself about justice at this point. This was an outrage. “In the far past, before the controlling of the sun and the moon, Equestria executed criminal hermaphrodites. We have since created a better way.”
Octavia knew this trick, say the worst, then give a better option to placate who you are bargaining with.
“We have these.” The earth pony doctor proclaimed.

"No," Octavia was quick to counter. "It was their fault. The only thing you did wrong was get targeted by those monsters.” Octavia turned, teary eyed, back to Vinyl. “What those evil ponies did to you is inexcusable, and..." Octavia paused. Regret filled her very soul. "As was what I said to you. The welts along your body prove what you said. You were broken and used by them, and I am truly sorry, For everything."
Octavia stretched her fore hoof through the cuffs on the chair to grab Vinyl’s, who did so in kind.
For many ponies these two were outcasts, others, unthinking animals. But to them that merely described everpony else. To them the only other real pony was sat right next to them.
