Chapter 2. Star Gaze, Princess of Friendship

Previous Chapter

Star Gaze awoke in her bed, slowly she rose, lifting herself up while resting against the backframe.

"Hold on a second." Star Gaze froze, realization smacking her across the face.

She was in a bed. She was in an actual bed, in an actual room, in an actual castle! Something behind her twitched, she looked to her backside and a pair of pale yellow wings flared behind her. She triggered her back muscles and sure enough, the wings attached to her moved. She rushed out of bed and ran to the mirror hanging from the wall.

Just as she thought, she was an Alicorn. Flight, magic, strength, she had it all. Something glistening caught her eye, causing her to spin around. There she saw a gold framed crown with a six pointed star on its top. Her magic levitated the crown towards her and sat it on her head. She looked at her reflection once more, this time wearing the golden crown.

This was hers. It was all hers. The room, the crown, the power, everything belonged to her. Everything that she deserved to have was finally hers. Everything and more, this was officially the greatest day of her life.

*knock, knock*

"Star Gaze." A voice came from the other side of the door.

Star Gaze stumbled back in shock from the sudden noise. After gathering her wits and composing herself like a normal princess, she cleared her throat and responded, "come in."

The door opened and an orange fur Pegasus with blue eyes and blue mane coming out from the top of his helmet who wore golden Royal Guard armor. "Sorry to disturb you Star." The Pegasus apologized, rubbing the back of his head. "But you'd give me an earful if I let you sleep in."

Star Gaze frowned, tilting her head slightly in confusion. "Shouldn't you address me as 'Princess Star Gaze'?" Star Gaze asked, slightly indicating that she wanted her ascension to be declared.

It was now the Pegasus' turn to frown. "Are you feeling alright Star?" He asked, approaching her and feeling her forehead. "Do you have a fever or something?"

Star Gaze smacked the Pegasus' hoof away from her. "Don't touch me." She glared, causing the Pegasus to be even more confused. His mouth opened to speak but was unable to as someone beat him to the punch.

"Thank you for checking up on our princess Sentry. Please return to your post."

The Pegasus turned around and bowed. "As you command, Lord Amontious." The Pegasus rose and walked out of the room.

Amontious looked exactly the same, except he wore a black suit that covered his entire body except for his neck and head. Attached from the back of his suit was a cape with the back side colored black and the front side colored red. Once the Pegasus had left, Amontious closed the door and locked it.

"Lord Amontious?" Star Gaze raised a brow, crossing her forelegs.

"I see you finally have arrived." Amontious walked over towards him. "Took you long enough."

"Arrived?" Star Gaze said in confusion, uncrossing her forelegs. "What do you mean arrived?"

Amontious took a seat on the floor and Star Gaze did the same, both knowing that a long explanation was about to occur.

"When we changed events, we, as in ourselves, didn't experience those events firsthoof. But rather our past selves did. With the events changed, the spell shot us back to the original timeline we had come from. However, unlike you, I was sent a bit further. So I had to spend some time with your past self while I waited for you to arrive. I also observed your behavior, or rather your past self's behavior until you arrived. In my observations I learned some things you might want to know." Amontious explained.

"Well don't just leave me in suspense, tell me." Star Gaze ordered.

"As you wish your highness." Amontious mocked. "Speaking of which, it seems that no one addresses you as 'your highness' or 'your majesty' or 'princess', they just address you as Star Gaze."

"Why?!" Star Gaze demanded. "If I have a title that shows I am superior to others why wouldn't I use it?"

"Your past self didn't see it that way. She treated everyone she knew as her equal and as such they do." Amontious answered. "The second thing, the Royal Guard you just met. His name is Flash Sentry."

"And why would I need to know that?" Star Gaze asked.

"He's your coltfriend."

If Star Gaze was drinking something she would've instantly spit it out in shock and horror. "W-what?!"

A bright flash blinded Star Gaze as Amontious had taken a picture of her with a camera. The machine spit out the picture of Star Gaze with her shocked face. "Been waiting for that." Amontious grinned. "But yes he is your coltfriend and let me just say, you bagged yourself the greatest guy I think I've ever seen. He was everything you wanted in a mate. Kind, caring, slightly funny, not to smart but also not to dumb, good looks, and...well you get the picture."

"You can't honestly expect me to actually date that...that... that guy!" Star Gaze cried out.

"I do, and I think you'll learn to like him over time. Especially one day from now." Amontious said.

"You mean tomorrow? What's happening tomorrow?" Star Gaze asked.

"Why, Hearts and Hooves day of course. No doubt Flash is planning something romantic for you." Amontious said, wondering what things Flash had planned.

"And what if I refuse and don't go with him?" Star Gaze asked.

Amontious' tone became dark and serious when he responded. "Then you have a change of rupturing the spell and time itself will unravel and catastrophic events will occur the likes of which you have never seen." Amontious said darkly before returning to his normal mood. "So, if you don't wish to be the cause of the end of time itself, I suggest you go on that date. Okay?"

"Fine." Star Gaze grumbled in defeat.

"Splendid, I'm so glad I have your cooperation." Amontious clapped his hooves. "Now get yourself ready, we have work to do."

Twilight Sparkle's eyes slowly fluttered open, instantly blinded by the sun's gaze. She groaned as she slowly rose, her body make soft, subtle, cracking sounds as she did so. Twilight winced in pain, it had felt like she had slept on a pile of rocks.

Which was understandable because she basically had.

Twilight's eyes widened in shock when she saw that her bed was nothing more than a blanket lied on top of the ground with small rocks underneath it. Twilight, now fully awake, became aware of her surroundings to see she wasn't in her room or her castle. She was in a house with charred and burnt wood that appeared ready to collapse at any second. Then Twilight became aware of something else, something more personal.

Her wings.

Twilight looked at her backside to be sure. When she did, it confirmed that her wings were now missing. Twilight's brain automatically tried to calculate the reasons as to what was happening. Twilight shook away those calculations and left the building. She was completely confused as to where she was and what she was even doing there in the first place. But to figure that out she needed answers, and the closest thing she could get to that would mean traveling to Ponyville. Luckily she had just the thing to do that.

Thankfully, Twilight still had her magic which meant she was still capable of teleportation. With a simple teleportation spell, Twilight disappeared in the blink of an eye and reappeared in the town of Ponyville. Her town, her home, and the ponies that lived there. Everything looked exactly the same except...different somehow. Almost as if something was out of place but Twilight couldn't put her hoof on it. Wanting answers, Twilight decided it would be best if she asked around.

She walked over to the two ponies she knew as Lyra and Bon Bon who were chatting on a bench.

"Hi Lyra, Bon Bon, do you guys know if anything strange has happened?" Twilight asked.

Both Lyra and Bon Bon looked at Twilught like she was a complete stranger. "Um..." Lyra rubbed the back of head, awkwardly. "Do we know you?"

Twilight took a sep back, frazzled. "Of course you know me. I'm Twilight Sparkle, your friend."

Lyra and Bon Bon shared a glance. "I think you have me confused with someone else. No offense but, I've never seen you before in my life."

"But that doesn't mean we can't be friends." Bon Bon interjected, giving Lyra a glare. "My name is Bon Bon and this is my friend Lyra. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Twilight was about to protest until she caught sight of her best friend Applejack, who was carrying two baskets on her back. Twilight quickly rushed over to Applejack and walked beside her.

"Oh thank goodness I found you." Twilight sighed in relief. "I don't know what's going on but my wings are gone and...we'll let's just say something weird is happening. I think we should gather up everyone and figure out what's-"

"Am gonna have ta stop ya right there sugarcube." Applejack said, stopping in front of Twilight and facing her. "I think ya got me mixed up with somepony else. Could ya mind telling me yer name so I can get ya back to whoever it is your looking for?"

Twilight's eyes widened in horror. "Not you too." Then a terrible thought dawned on Twilight, if Applejack didn't remember her than that meant none of her friends remembered her. Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, Fluttershy, and-

Her eyes became even wider. Before she could even have a second thought, she bolted. Running at speeds that rivaled that of Rainbow Dash. Her intended target was the Castle of Friendship, which came into view. She burst though the doors and ran into the throne room.

Six tall chairs made out of the crystal that made up the entire castle itself surrounded the round table that showed the entire map of Equestria. On top of each of the thrones there was a symbol, one of three red apples, one of three butterfly's, one of three gems, one of a cloud shooting a rainbow lightning bolt, one of three balloons, and the one that once belonged to her. What should've been a six pointed star was now a five pointed star with a sparkling trail behind it.

"Can I help you?"

Twilight spun around to see Amontious standing in the doorway. "You seem to be lost, are you trying to find Star Gaze?" He asked.

"Star Gaze? Who's Star Gaze?" Twilught asked. "And what happened to my throne?"

Amontious froze, a look of concern flashed on his face for a split second before returning to its calm and collected state. "You must be out of town to not know who Star Gaze is. I mean, she is the Princess of Friendship after all."

"No she's not." Twilight said. "I'm the Princess of Friendship."

Amontious frowned, slowly piecing things together in his mind. Once he had come to a conclusion, he used his magic and Twilight fell to the floor asleep. With a wave of his hoof, Twilight disappeared in the blink of an eye. He turned away and walked out of the room, heading to where Star Gaze was.

Star Gaze had never been more bored in her whole life. When she had become a princess she thought life had been so simple and easy, but in fact it was pretty much the exact opposite.

Star Gaze sat in a crystal throne, her elbow resting against the armrest and her hoof pressed against her cheek which held her head up. Before Star Gaze was a pony, who she assumed to be the mayor, who had been droning on and on about how the educational system should expand.

"Princess Star Gaze, I need to speak with you."

Star Gaze lifted herself from the throne and jumped towards her savior, Amontious, who had just walked into the door. She turned back to the mayor and said, "so sorry to cut this short but I'm needed. Kay, thanks, bye!" She said, rushing Amontious and herself out if the room.

Once she was sure they were out of earshot and sight she groaned and rubbed her temples. "Agggggggghhhhhh! Never before have I been so bored in my life."

"Star Gaze this is important." Amontious said firmly.

"I mean seriously, that pony just would not shut up. She kept on talking and talking and talking and-" Star Gaze's lips became sealed shut by Amontious' magic.

"If you're talking then you're not listening." Amontious stated, releasing Star Gaze's lips. "And I have something important to tell you."

Star Gaze rubbed the discomfort in her lips away, "I don't care what it is, as long as I can avoid that mare I'll do anything."

"Twilight Sparkle was here."

Star Gaze's eyes widened, a smile spread to the very corners of her face. "She is?! Where?!" Star Gaze demanded, frantically searching.

"I sent her back to where she had come from." Amontious answered, causing Star to frown. "But there's a problem. She has her memories."

Star Gaze raised a brow, "so?"

"So?" Amontious blinked. "Do you not understand that this puts my-I mean our future in jeopardy. If Twilight figures out some way to reverse the spell, then this timeline will collapse and everything we worked for will be destroyed."

Star Gaze thought before responding. "Welp, guess we have no choice but to kill her."

"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" Amontious roared before clearing his throat and composing herself. "Twilight has her memories, which means she is connected to the spell somehow. If we kill her then the very fabric of space and time will fall apart."

"You're no fun." Star Gaze huffed. "If I can't kill her then what am I supposed to do?"

Amontious blinked, confusion plastered on his face. "You have no idea how bad this is, do you?"

"Not really." Star Gaze admitted.

Amontious grabbed Star Gaze by the shoulders and rocked her back and forth. "You stupid, imbecilic, girl!" He roared. "If Twilight Sparkle has her memories then who knows what she'll do. She could somehow reverse the spell, or make others regain their memories as well."

Star Gaze blinked, realizing how much of a big deal it was for Twilight still having her memories. "Alright, what do we do?"

"You, do nothing." Amontious said. "The only thing you need to worry about is that date you have tomorrow. Leave Twilight to me."

"Why do you get the fun part and I get the cliche part?" Star Gaze asked.

"Because I said so." Amontious growled. "Now please, just do as I say and our world will remain in tact. Deal?"

Star Gaze was silent before sighing in defeat. "Fine." She huffed before storming off.

Amontious too left the hallway, thinking of how Twilight still had her memories. It didn't seem possible, he made sure the spell had no flaws or openings to it. Perhaps it was Starswirl, maybe he had casted a contingency spell in Amontiouses. No, Amontious would've known if Starswirl had used any magic. So it couldn't have been him, but if not the old wizard then who? Who else could've known about Amontiouses spell and had enough magic to alter it?

Amontiouses eyes widened in realization as he got his answer.

"Clover the clever." Amontious spat the unicorn's name.

How could he have been so careless? Clover was more than capable of altering his spell, and she was in the right place at the right time to do so. All signs pointed to her, and Amontious knew what needed to be done.

"It's time to visit a certain Teacher's Pet." Amontious declared as he vanished in a puff of red magic.

Author's Note

Now I know what you're thinking, "why did this chapter take so long when it's this short?" Well the answer is I just didn't really feel that motivated to writing this story as others. So maybe the next chapter will take a while to I guess.
