The Cookie Princess
Cookies, cookies and MORE COOKIES!
Load Full StoryThe moon sparkled in the night sky. Luna nodded as she looked at her handy work. Tonight she had placed several of the stars in the shape of her face as a joke. Just because her sister could troll ponies didn't mean she couldn't too! She laughed as she walked back into her room from the balcony. She may have had fun with the star placement but she still kind of hated her job. Celestia had promised they would rule together and sure she had fulfilled that promise but it still felt like she wasn't getting as much recognition as he sister was. Her mind flashed to when she had been Nightmare Moon. Sometimes she hated herself for when she'd become Nightmare Moon no matter how many times people had told her it was ok. No matter how many times they forgave her. She still felt a little pain every time she thought about it. She sighed angrily and walked towards the kitchen. There was only one thing she needed to cheer her up. Cookies.
As she walked down the hallway that would take her into the kitchen she noticed a bird sitting on a ledge at one of the window. He looked at her and tilted his head. She walked over to the bird. It appeared to be an eagle. There was a tag on his foot that read: Hermes. She remembered Hermes to be the messenger god. He was fast and very smart. This was truly a good name for such a strong looking bird. She reached out her hoof and he flew to her and rested his claws gently onto her hoof. It hurt but she ignored it.
"Wouldst thee like to consume cookies with us?" She asked. The bird let out a mighty call that punctured her ear drums in a painful yet wondrous way. This bird was the true aspect of freedom. "We shalt take that as a YES!"
The bird flew from her hoof and landed on her back. He sat there as she walked into the kitchen. The aroma of fresh chocolate chip cookies filled her lungs as she took in a deep breath. This was going to be the best day ever. The plate of cookies rested upon the ceramic table top. They were an assortment of flavors such as chocolate chip, butternut, butterscotch and plain. She let out a small sequel as she picked up a cookie. Hermes flew from her back and landed on the table. Luna gasped and went to find something less fragile for him to rest his claws upon. She laid a broom across the table to he could rest on the end of it. He flew to it and let out another ear spiting eagle screech. She laughed as she crumbled a plain cookie for him. She held it out in her hand and he ate a few crumbs.
"Thou enjoys cookies, yes?" She asked with a giggle as he ate some more. Hermes seemed to really enjoy this sugary treat. She went back to her own chocolate chip cookie and took a bite of it. It was warm and sizzles her tongue but not enough to hurt. It was more of a pleasant feeling than that of pain. "These art truly the most wondrous cookies!" Hermes again screeched in response. He stared at her sadly until she gave him more cookies.
"We must be careful that our sister dose not see us eating them. Thou must be quiet, Hermes. Tia will be very angry with us if we are caught." She said as she shoved another cookie into her mouth. The rich and moist chocolate swirled upon her tongue and she smiled, "We must also be careful not to consume too many cookies eith'r. Tia would get suspicious!"
Suddenly Hermes flew to the fridge and sat on top of it. He let out another screech and wouldn't stop until Luna walked over to him, "I hath said thou must be quiet!" Suddenly she remembered something. "Oh art thee wanting some milk with the cookies?"
Again Hermes screeched in response. She praised him for reminding her as she opened the fridge and grabbed the milk jug. She then took a cup and a saucer out of the cupboards and sat them on the table. She poured the milk into the saucer first and then into the cup. Hermes began drinking the milk from the small dish as she dunked a cookie into it. Milk splashed out of the cup and onto the table top. She sighed as she used a towel to clean it up. She would need to be more careful. Suddenly one of the royal guards stepped into the room.
"Princess?" He asked with confusion as he looked at her and the cookies. His eyes then moved to look at Hermes. He tilted his head. "What are you doing?"
"Do not speak of this to Tia!" Luna said to him. "She will be most disappointed."
"Yes your highness." He said with a bow, "But may I ask what you are doing? Those cookies are for after dinner or so I was told."
"Hermes and i art eating cookies. Thee may has't some if thou concur to be silent about this to Tia." Luna said as she offered him a butternut cookies. She had no need for them as she found them to be distasteful and uncouth. He did not take the cookie but only shook his head.
"Tia- I mean the princess will need to be informed of this." He looked at her, "I am sorry."
"Just taketh the stupid cookie" Luna glared at him.
He looked a little scared now but took the cookie anyway. He ate it and then walked away. Luna called back to him to not tell her sister as he left. She smiled over at Hermes and he let out another fearless screech. Eagles were amazing creatures she decided. Not only were they strong and fearless but they also loved cookies. She pet Hermes on the head and fed him another cookie.
"This shall be the last one. We mustn't allow Tia to not have any." Luna put the glass and saucer in the sink. Hermes flew to her back and she put the broom where she'd found it. As they made their departure from the kitchen Luna found herself face to face with a tall and regal alicorn. Celestia. She gulped.
"Lu Lu, what are you doing? Have you been eating the cookies again?" Celestia asked with a raised eye brow.
"No dear sister." She paused. There was actually no need to lie like this. "Actually.. Yes. We did eat some of the cookies."
"That was MY idea!" Celestia groaned with frustration. Hermes let out another screech and she looked up at him, "Who's this?"
"His name is Hermes. He is our eagle friend." Luna smiled as she looked at the beautiful bird.
"Luna..." Celestia looked down at her, "That bird is supposed to be sending mail back and forth between our kingdom and the ponies who are at sea in our fleets. He isn't a pet."
Luna looked at her sister and than back to the bird. He seemed so sad now that she thought about it. He must have flown a lot back and forth and maybe the cookies had given him a little bit of energy. She then looked back at Celestia.
"Then get another bird." She said as she walked back to her room. Hermes perched happily on her back.
