A Sadow of Loyalty
Gone
Load Full StoryI sighed. How'd I lose them? Correction, how'd they lose me? What about loyalty forever? I guess I was young and stupid. I had lost everything. All those summer afternoons and long winter evenings that always ended with us laughing and joking. I had wished and wished to become a Wonderbolt and I did. But after that? A memory. I had made it into the history books. But now, I'd give that all up. I was now just another name for schoolponies to remember but not actually forget. Sometimes I wished I could forget. Forget everything I'd ever done. What's it do? Would anypony come to my memorial when I die? I know it's going to happen soon. I don't have any family. Would anyone openly cry? Propably not. Why can't I forget? Applejack, Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, Fluttershy, even Starlight and Spike.... I still can't forget them. They all have moved on. Each with a special somepony. I don't see them anymore, and when I do it's out of my window for a slipt second. But I do see their children and their children's children. Spitting images of their parents and grandparents. My children and grandchildren should be out there with them. But I have none. I lived life in the fast lane. Thinking that nopony could keep up with me. Another dumb mistake made by Rainbow Dash. I wish I could just redue the whole thing over again. Everyday every moment I would cherish it, cradle it like it was my own foal. Not like I had any.
Right now I was staring out my window. A yellow, almost white earth pony mare was selling apples from a cart, her name was Gala, she was an Apple. But she was being stopped by a light purple earth pony mare, Talley Toffy. Pinkie's grandfillie. I sighed. If only I wasn't so stupid. If only... before Fluttershy and I lost touch she told me Tank would die before me, and it looked like he, also, had reached the end of his days. He blinked at me, he was sitting on a pillow next to my chair which I watch out the window in. Before I knew what I was doing I got up on my old, wobbly hooves and strolled over to my desk and before I knew what I was doing I had a quill in my mouth and was writing. And not before long I had 1 every long, very emotionally draining letter. I coughed. It seemed like my throat was always getting dry and scratchy. A light knock was on my door.
"Come in its open!" I hollared at the door. I began to cough harder, I rolled out of my chair and stumbled over to my small kitchen, I had become very addicted to the little hard candies that elders always had on hoof. I took two out of my small jar and watched as Lilly Lolly, a light green earth pony with a dark blue mane walked in.
"I'M SO SORRY FOR-oops! Sorry for being late!" Then she face-hoofed. She was Fluttershy's grandfillie. Pinkie had a son with Cheese Sandwich, his name was Cheese Pickle Pie. Fluttershy got married to Discord (why I don't know) but they had a fine little fillie I think her name was like Petal Pansy or something. But plot twist, they got together and had twins, Lilly Lolly, a pegasus, and Talley Toffy, a earth pony. Poor things, Talley got Pinkie's personalty, but Fluttershy's voice and Lilly got Fluttershy's shyness and Pinkie's voice. Lilly was the pony who created the retirement home, her Cutie Mark in caring for others. And so Lilly went around to half of the retirement home one day, then the other half the next.
"Nah, nah you're fine." I told her. A waved a hoof to let her in. She did. I lived in a retirement home apartment. I live on the 3 floor, I wished to be on the highest level, but the doctors said that if I went any higher I could be too tempted to fly. My wings have become very brittle, since I've flown so much that they've become too weak to fly. I popped 2 hard candies into my mouth. Lolly looked at me with a hopeless expression.
"You know that those are bad for you!" she exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever." I moaned.
"Rain! Hey what's that?!" She yelled. She trotted over to my desk and picked up my letter.
"Could you not." I told her. She put it down. Eveypony here at the retirement home calls me Rain, I don't want them to know who I really am. The days of me boasting and become a large narcissus, I also loved to talk about myself. Not anymore. I don't know who I am anymore, I can't fly, I don't boast, and I'm one lousy friend. So much for the best flyer, showoff, loyal Pegaus around.
"So, Riany, what is it?" she asked. I sighed. She would just keep asking and asking about it until I give in.
"Now listen here, Lilly. I'm old and I'm going to die soon. But when I do, I want you to give this to these ponies: Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rarity, both your grandmother's, Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy, also a pony named Starlight and a dragon named Spike, you got that?" I looked up. She obviously didn't get it. "I'll write it down for you." so I did. I gave her the paper and returned to the window. I loved the window. I didn't go out much anymore, my old bones would never take me far enough to go out and all the way back. I loved to watch the world go by. But I hated seeing it go on without me. Especially my friends, it was as if I never even existed.
"Rain, you're not going to die, soon are you?" she asked. I shook my head.
"Of corse I have to. You'll come to the funeral, right?" I asked. I wanted at least one pony to know who I was. In Ponyville if anypony passed away, half -sometimes even more- of Ponyville would come. And almost all of them had no clue who they were mourning.
"Of course!" she yelped. I smiled. Then I held out another envelope to her. She took it gingerly.
"Read this at the memorial, ya hear that?" I commanded. She nodded. I closed my eyes and lean my head back.
"Need anything else today, Rain?" She asked. I opened my eyes and rolled my head over to look at her. All I wanted to do was sleep, but I knew if I did I would surely die. I looked her straight in the eyes. So much like Pinkie's. Should I tell her that I knew her grandmonthers, both of them. No, I would never get any sleep. I'll only say the minimum.
"I want to sleep, but listen, Lilly, listen!" I hushed. I had caught her attention. "My name isn't Rain." I told her she gasped and opened her mouth to propably ask a question, but I stopped her.
"I'm going to die tonight I can feel it. But please, when I'm gone, tell those ponies that I mentioned before: I'm sorry. Please, Lilly, they'll explain the things I can't say. Tell them....tell them that the rainbow in Rainbow Dash has gone out. Please....please...please..." I didn't hear what she said after I was done. Because I could hear something else, something I thought I'd lost: the laughter, the joy, the life I was so stupid to let slip through my hooves awaiting me. I closed my eyes and let go. I let go of everything. Everything that I wished I never did. The things I wished I did do. I am no longer the element of loyalty. I am merely a shadow, now. A shadow of my past self. A shadow of loyalty. I hope that I'll someday, maybe see the others too. To say how stupid I was, how ignorant, too.
Dear Friends,
It's been years since you've seen me. And many more years since we've adventured together. I'm old now, and my bones are weak. I know I won't survive any longer. How I did survive this long without you guys at my side, I don't know. But I now I know that I shouldn't of been so stubborn. I had everything I had ever wanted right in front of my face. But you know the saying 'You don't know what you have until you lose it'? Yeah, that's all too true. I wanted to return to Ponyville, to my home. But I didn't couldn't believe that anypony would welcome me back. How dumb does that sound? I was so a afraid of losing you, of being rejected that I never came home. Now, my home wasn't that cloud house, or Twilight's castle, Sugarcube Corner~~, A.J's farm~~ Sweet Apple Acers, Rarity's boutique, not even Fluttershy's cottage. But you guys. You are my home. I wish I could say I'm so sorry in person. But I can hardly walk, and flying is definitely out of the picture. Now, I'm gone. That's that, nothing is ever going to change that, and if you even try Twilight Sparkle you'll be in some bad trouble! I'm sorry Fluttershy, but Tank is still alive and well, although his age is now showing as clear as Applejack loves apples. I will need you to take care of him. I don't know what to say anymore. I said what needed to be said, but why do I feel like I'm missing something? Well with nothing else to say I guess I'm done.
From,
Rainbow Danger Dash
P.S. Tell Applejack that I'm sorry that I missed those years of Running of the Leaves
Lilly did do as she was told and found the ponies which Rainbow had asked her to. She closed her eyes and placed the letter down on the ground. A light breeze blew past her. She shuttered. She nodded her head in acknowledgement. Then left, but the letter remained unopened. For it wasn't anypony that now held the letter, but the letter on the ground surrounded by a semicircle of grave stones. Now in Equestria instead of writing down the name of the pony on a grave stone, they used a gem of their Cutie Mark. And so there was one on each, one with 3 red apples, another was had just 3 plan blue gems, one with pink butterflies, one with 3 yellow balloons, and the last one was a purple star. They were visited often, by their children and the schoolponies. Of corse they were of corse very famous, and was now studied in school and have been given the title: 'Heroes of Equestria, Elements of Harmony' on every book. But that's never what they wanted they wanted to protect their home. And sometimes not even that! But Equestria mourned for their deaths. Each one giving the Alicorn Princesses a reminder that not everything lasts. Rainbow hadn't known that ponies had been searching for her, Equestria's last Element. Loyalty should of been easy to find, but nopony did. But a small piece of Equestria had died that day. The day the last Element slipped away.
