Prologue:Birth of Balefire
Every new beginning starts with the end of everything you know.
Yakyakistan
8 hours till mega spells are launched
The wind screamed as we flew towards Yakyakistan the snow pelting the pegasi soldiers who flew alongside the sky chariot. I sat in the chariot as the two pegasi piloting the craft began to slow as we approached the target.
“Alright commander we are approaching the landing zone,” One of the pilots informed me, with that I moved my crimson mane to the side, grabbed my helmet and slid it over my head.
“Acknowledged,” I informed the pilots then activated the mic in the helmet. “Alright team squads A and B will target the cannons on the east side, squads C and D will target the west side cannons, I will provide a distraction so wait for the signal.”
“Yes Commander Dragon Fire,” I got from the squadron outside the chariot as they broke formation.
“Alright, Jet Fire and Thunder Cracker you two will be returning to base and Inform them to ready the troops,” I told the pilots before jumping out of the chariot the wind blowing past me as the ground came rushing up at an alarming speed. But before I hit the ground I touched a button on my armor and a magic field surrounded my entire body as I hit the ground with a thunderous boom.
If I didn’t have a mission at hand I would so totally do that again, I thought as I climbed out of the crater I made upon my landing. Once at the top I found a yak pointing a gun at me, his hulking form was covered in thick fur that acted like a natural armor against bullets, which made them a difficult to beat in battle.
“PONY INVADED YAK COUNTRY YAK DESTROY!!” He yelled before pulling the trigger but it hit snow as I leaped over him, grabbing the sword on my back and as soon as I landed I used my blade to decapitate the yak with ease.
“Sorry nothing personal, but I have to make a distraction for my troops,” I said as I ran toward the stone gate that protected the yaks capital from intruders, which they wouldn’t have to worry about if they didn’t join the Zebra’s against Equestria, I thought as I killed another yak who was in my way. Then I heard the alarm go off, I was spotted by the guards on top of the wall. Great now this is gonna be a grand old time, I thought with a smile hidden behind my helmet.
I approached the wall faster than the yaks could follow, reaching into my belt I grabbed a metal ball with a button on it. Pressing the button I tossed it at the wall and what followed was a magical effect that turned the the guards above the wall into small bunnies. I stopped at the wall and balled my hands into a fist and punched the stone wall with all my might putting a huge hole into the wall. Before I leaped through I felt a bullet pierce my armor and my skin, followed by a fierce burning in my skin, then everything got blurry as I lost all form of thought disappeared from my mind and then everything went black.
When I came too, I found myself laying on the ground surrounded by dead bodies of yaks. “Damn it you lost control again,” I growled to myself as I picked myself up off the blood covered ground. “So how long was I out this time,” I stated as I grabbed my sword off the ground and returned it to it’s sheath.
I activated my radio to contact my squadron, “This is Commander Dragon Fire, does anypony read me?” It was followed by static. “Okay so nopony is responding alright so they could just be out of range which would mean they left the city,” I rationalized before Yakyakistan was bathed in a bright green glow. “What in Equestria is going on with the light?” I asked as I looked toward the sky and was greeted by the dreadful sight of a Balefire Mega spell falling toward the city.
“No, the Zebra’s wouldn’t sacrifice all the yaks just to kill one soldier,” I said before I face palmed. “They would if said soldier is an experimental super soldier,” I stated as I sat back down on the blood covered ground and accepted my demise then I heard the crying of a young yak child and hopped onto my feet and took off like a shot towards the sound. When I saw the house it was coming from the megaspell struck and everything went dark as the pain of burning alive became unbearable but I heard the cries of pain from the entire town as they were burned alive.
I soon found myself naked in another dimension surrounded by stars, with chains holding me in place soon I began to hear screams of terror and pleas for help flooded my every thought as I sat there as time passed, I lost track easily soon hours turned into days, days to weeks, weeks to months, then months into years I sat there.
“It is time for you to return to the land of the living,” a filly like voice said to me though it was familiar.
“What do you mean by that?” I asked the voice confused, “I am dead so I cannot return.”
“You aren’t dead Dragon Fire,” The filly chuckled as she walked into my sight she was a pale yellow pegasus with a baby blue mane and tail. “You were simply removed from the mortal plane when your unique DNA structure absorbed a large amount of balefire.”
“Then why have I been chained up and tortured with the screams of pain of those I have killed?” I questioned the filly staring into her rainbow colored eyes.
“Well simply put you did the chaining up yourself.” The filly answered while snapping her fingers the chains disappeared from my wrists. “As for the screams they are not of the dead they are from those who are in need of your assistance.”
“My assistance? I must have gone insane,” I laughed while rubbing my left wrist.

“I assure you it is the truth,” The filly said as she walked towards me. “I chose you to be the instrument of change in the wasteland after the fall of the new Equestrian empire.”
“The new Equestrian Empire?”I asked the filly confused.
“Well it was founded after the original wasteland was cured by the then current Elements of Harmony,” she said before touching my arm, “You have really soft pink fur.”
“What?” I said confused while pulling away from the extremely odd filly.
“Well look at the time, time for you to leave bye now,” The filly said before snapping her fingers and a necklace appeared around my neck. “In case you need my assistance oh and before I forget your name is now Balefire, Have fun!~”
And with that I found myself covered in mud and surrounded by swamp lands on all sides. “Where am I?” I asked myself before I heard a cry for help.
“No please!” a mare’s voice cried out into to the swamp.
“Well, seems there is no time to ponder on that question somepony needs my help,” I said running toward the sound. It is here where my old life ended and my new one began I died as Dragon Fire the soldier to be reborn as Balefire the defender of the weak.
