Will Wave has always been fascinated with energy. Despite only being 15, he frequently experiments with electrical currents on bent metal objects to study their wave-like patterns. (He considers them Ws, after his name.) Being the grandson of the founder of Wavelength, an electric company based in Cleveland, Ohio, he has the resources to do so. His mother, Skylar, is the daughter of the founder, and she, along with his step-father Blake, love that he has found a passion at such a young age. They trust him with this dangerous equipment because he is very responsible and mature for his age…

When his sister, Nicolle, finds him the template for a perfect test specimen after a hike with her friend, the aftermath is explosive. Then, Will finds himself on a bed in the hospital with a throbbing head and a burning feeling… well, everywhere. Seems like something went horribly, horribly wrong… or did it?

Meanwhile, the weather team in Cloudsdale has been noticing very staticky conditions all around Central Equestria. Clouds forming by themselves, while not uncommon, don't emit electricity without certain properties or by being charged manually by pegasi. Twilight Sparkle and Spitfire, high ranking ponies of the two majorly affected areas, have both noticed strange anomalies between it and normal electricity. Where could all this cloud-charging energy be coming from? And who is going to stop it?
