Misunderstanding

It was a warm spring day when Princess Celestia, ruler of Equestria rose the sun. Hearts and Hooves Day was approaching. The Mane Six all had special somepony’s to spend the day with, except now they are also facing another problem. Parenthood. In the town library lived Princess Twilight Sparkle, her husband Flash Sentry and their daughter Starlight Sparkle. The toddler was as clever as her mother, but also shared her fathers caring heart. Above a bakery, lived Pinkie Pie, her husband Cheese Sandwich and their son Boysenberry. The colt was as fun loving and eccentric as his parents.

Across town, in a fashion boutique lived Rarity, her husband Fancy Pants and their daughter Pearl. The filly was fussy at times but was every bit as good natured and generous as her parents. Above the town lived two Wonderbolt cadets, Rainbow Dash, her husband Soarin and their twin foals, Thunder Dash and Lightning Dash. The twins were already flying before they could walk and had every bit of independence as their parents as they were often away, leaving them in the care of their Aunt Scootaloo.

At the far side of town, on Sweet Apple Acres, lived Applejack and her boyfriend Spike the dragon, her sister Apple Bloom, her brother Big Mac and his wife Cheerilee, their son Apple Bud and her Granny Smith. In the middle of the Everfree Forest that boarded the town, lived Fluttershy, her husband Discord and their daughter Screwball. The little filly was the daughter of chaos and kindness, giving her the power of chaos, but also her mother’s good heart. And living in a small woodland cottage at the edge of the forest, lived Violet-Rose, Fluttershy’s cousin.

Violet was nineteen and now her long lasting boyfriend, Comet Blitz was living there too, he had moved in a month after her birthday. Violet rolled over to see him sleeping there next to her. “Morning handsome.” she smirked as his eyes fluttered open, revealing their icy blue depths. “Morning, what time is it?”

Violet looked at the clock on the wall. “About 7,” She dug her face into the pillow. “and on a Saturday too.” she added a pout that she knew he liked.

He chuckled. “Not a morning pony?”

“No, is there some law that says ponies can’t sleep in that I don’t know about?” she grinned.

“Too true,” he reached out a hoof to stroke her blonde mane. “Why is it that every morning is when you’re at your prettiest?”

“Stop it,” she said, pushing him away.

“What?” he teased. “So have you got any plans for Hearts and Hooves Day tomorrow?” “Yeah, babysitting six crazy foals while my friends go on their Hearts and Hooves Day dates.”

“Bummer.” He then grinned. “Well, we could stay here.” They leaned closer and their lips touched. Violet sighed. “You torture me sometimes Comet. I’ll have to get up eventually I have to take Screwball out to give Fluttershy and Discord some alone time.” she explained. Instead of pouting, Comet grinned and pulled back one of her blonde curls. “That filly really loves you, doesn’t she?”

Violet nodded. “Well she is my niece.”

A minute later, Violet was getting her saddle bag together, she had planned a picnic near the playground. Screwball was now two years old and no bigger than a stuffed animal. The little bundle of chaos was Daddy’s little girl, always spending most of her time practicing her magic with Discord. However, she also loved her Aunt Violet. The two would get up to a lot on their visits; they would go swimming, flying or playing games with the Rainbow of Light.

Ah yes, the Rainbow of Light. Over the years, Violet had taught herself to do tricks with her powers. One such trick she performed at Pinkie and Cheese Sandwich’s wedding. Violet turned around and saw that Comet was rushing to get his own saddle bag together. "What's gotten under your skin?" she asked.

Comet faced her and a bead of sweat trickled down the side of his forehead. "I...I uh...I'm late for work!" he stuttered. This struck Violet as odd. Comet only worked from Monday to Friday, he only worked the weekends unless it was a dire emergency, such as a big storm was due or something happened with the Rainbow Machine and he had to work the extra days. "What happened this time?" she sighed.

"Nothing, I just have to come in today!" he said, knowing that it was a stupid excuse.

"O...kay, well I'll be heading off soon." she said, trying to ignore the tension. Something was off about him. The way he was stuttering and the nervousness in his voice made it clear that he was trying to hide something. But, Violet thought that she should just head down to the Castle of Chaos, spending time with her niece would clear her mind.

She checked that she had everything for the picnic. Basket filled with sandwiches, fruits, vegetables and dip, along with two water bottles and the picnic blanket. The basket was big enough to fit into her large saddle bag. She flung the saddle bag over her, pecked Comet in the cheek and trotted down the road that led to her cousins house. As she walked, she noticed that Comet had not left the house. "It's probably nothing," she said, looking down at the necklace he gave her. "Though he is gonna have to tell me when I get home."

Comet watched as his girlfriend disappeared from sight. He breathed a sigh of relief when she disappeared from sight. When he had told her that he was going to work that day, it was a lie. When she was completely out of sight he picked up his own saddle bag and tossed it on the top shelf and plopped himself down on the couch.

He mentally grinned at what he was going to do that night. He and Violet had been together for three years and now she was old enough to take things to the next step. He knew that she was ready because he got word from her friends that she had been dropping hints about getting engaged. Right now, he was waiting for a package he ordered from Maris. It should be arriving that day.

He sighed as the thought of his girlfriend wearing a pearly white dress and veil. He loved her for who she was; how she cared about everyone in her life and how independent she was. He didn’t mind her being half human, in fact he found humans interesting, though he frowned at how easily they could be angered and how they killed each other over the smallest things.

Violet explained to him that she wasn’t like those people and her parents raised her to be nice. That's what made her special to him. She made him happy every second of his life and he was ready to ask her the most important question of his life. Their lives probably...if she said yes.

Violet trotted up to the castle door, trying to put her boyfriends odd behaviour in the back of her mind. Though she made a mental note that she was going to ask him about it when she got home. Violet ran the door bell and the sound of a rooster echoed from inside the house. Violet rolled her eyes. Every day the doorbell made a different sound. She heard the sound of small hooves running to the door and a tiny pink and purple filly opened the door. She beamed when she saw Violet standing there.

"Aunty Violet!" cried Screwball, jumping into her aunts arms. Violet squeezed the filly tightly. "Hello Screwy, ready to go?"

"I was born ready!" the two year old piped up.

"Good to see you cos," Fluttershy said, coming to the door.

"Nice to see you to Fluttershy, I've got a big day planned for us." she said, ruffling Screwball's mane.

"Aunty!" she groaned, pushing Violet's hoof away. Violet chuckled. "Well, should we be heading off Screwy?"

"You bet!" cried Screwball.

"I'll see you two later tonight." Fluttershy said, smiling.

"Bye Mommy!" Screwball cried, waving her mother goodbye as she and Violet walked down the road.

Comet kept looking back and forth between the clock and the window, wondering what was taking so long for the post to get there and also checking to make sure Violet didn't come back. Finally, he heard the doorbell ring. He ran over to the door and opened it expecting to see Derpy, but instead the Mailmare was a light brown pegasus with a blue mane. Her eyes widened when she saw Comet. He did too.

"Azure?"

"Comet?"

Comet's mouth then curved into a grin. "Is it really you? I have seen you since flight school!"

"Yes! OMG it's been so long! How have you been?" Azure said in a Prench accent, shaking his hoof.

"I've been good, hey is that the package I ordered." he asked, looking at the box at her hooves.

"Apparently so, y'know I wasn't expecting to see you here. I thought this was Fluttershy's house." she said.

"She moved out three years ago with her husband." Comet explained.

Azure gasped. "She got married?! Gosh time has flown by. Who's the lucky stallion?"

Comet laughed. "Oh you'll never believe this-" he was cut off when Azure interrupted him with a gasped.

"Don't tell me it's Hoops?! He used to bully her all the time?!"

"What! No, it's not Hoops. Fluttershy's married to Discord."

Azure's jaw dropped. "Discord? As in Spirit/Lord of Chaos, that Discord? I thought he was in stone?"

"Long story, anyway it's so great to see you. Come in, we really need to catch up." Comet said.

Azure looked at the watch on her wrist. "Sure, I have the time." she said, walking into the living room and plopping herself on the couch. Comet picked up the small box and opened it.

Azure watched him from the couch. "So what did you order?" she asked. "It's from Maris isn't it?" she said, pointing out the postage stamp.

"You're right, I did get it from Maris," he opened the box fully and pulled back the tissue paper. He grinned at the sight. Sitting in the box was a deep red dress and a matching headband with a dark violet rose. "Perfect," he said holding up the dress.

Azure started sniggering. "What would you want with a dress?" she asked. Comet glared at her. "It's for my girlfriend." he explained.

Azure gasped yet again. Comet rolled his eyes, she hadn't changed a bit. "Who's your girlfriend?! Is it Rainbow Dash?"

"Nah, Dashie's also married with twins. Her name is Violet Rose." he explained, tucking the dress back in the box and stuffing it under the coffee table.

"Is she nice?" Azure asked.

"Very,"

"What does she do?"

"She works from home, making perfumes from the recipes she learned from her mother."

Azure's eyes widened. "She wouldn't be the same human turned pegasus Violet Rose who is the owner of 'Violet Rose Perfumes and Spa Treatments'? Would she?!"

Comet chuckled. Azure may be from Prance, but she was every bit as crazy eccentric as Pinkie. "The very pony."

Azure let out a high pitched fangirl squeal. "NO WAY! I L.O.V.E HER PERFUMES. AND YOU'RE DATING HER!!!"

Comet moved his hooves in a calm down gesture. "Alright enough about my love life, how have you been going?"

Azure's face fell slightly. "Well, my last girlfriend didn't last long and ever other attractive mare is either married or straight."

Comet put her supporting hoof on her arm. "Hey, you'll find her. There's someone for everypony. Just don't try to catch a fish in the bathtub." he said, grinning.

Azure let out a little chuckle. "Thanks," she said, getting up from her spot and hugging him. Comet hugged her back. Azure leaned back and pecked him on either cheek, as a way of thanks.

A lot of things can happen in a minute. Sometimes good things, sometimes bad. At this moment, Violet made the wrong decision to come back home after she realised she left her scarf behind. It was as if time had frozen in place as the only thing that she saw was her colt friend laying on the couch, hugging this attractive mare, while she was kissing him on the cheek. Tears pricked in the corners of her eyes as she realised what she was seeing. She felt the Rainbow dull inside her as it was powered by love. The love she had for him. Instead of love her heart was filled with nothing but anger and betrayal.

Comet and Azure barely had time to register what had happened when the shrill scream of his marefriend filled the house.

"COMET BLITZ!"
