Starlight repeatedly fills Twilight's castle with custard
“Spike! Spike? It happened again!”
The baby dragon moaned and rolled over in bed. For much of his young life he had been ordered around by Twilight, and he had hoped with her own student to command it may have reduced over time. Instead, things had only got worse.
Spike rushed downstairs to where he could hear Twilight freaking out to herself, and turning the corner she looked just as he expected - frizzy mane, eye twitching a little and hopping slightly on her hooves. Starlight was stood next to Twilight, looking sheepish.
Spike groaned “Where is it this time?”
“The second floor library, a good couple of inches”Twilight replied with more than a little stress in her voice. “Some of it is even on the books!” Twilight freaked out.
Spike waddled off and returned with three mops “And let me guess, it’s magic resistant again?”
Twilight, Starlight and Spike had soon mopped up the mess that had covered the library and found themselves sat round the large Cutie Map table for breakfast. Twilight had calmed down after finding none of the books had been ruined, but Starlight still was depressed.
“Come of Starlight, it could be a lot worse. There was no harm done and it took a lot less time to clear up than when you filled the whole of the science lab in the basement!”
“It's not that” Starlight sighed “I just feel so foalish. I mean, it's like I’m a little filly wetting the bed again...every night I just don’t know what I’ll wake up to!”
Spike snorted “It’s not like Twilight hasn’t done embarrassing things in her sleep.”
“This isn’t the time!” hissed Twilight to her assistant
Spike turned to Starlight and with a wink whispered “I’ll tell you later”
At least this put a smile on her face, although Twilight was less than impressed “Oh, you want to swap embarrassing stories do you? Perhaps I’ll wait until a certain unicorn friend is nearby and tell some of the stories of you as a baby?”
“Go ahead!” Spike smirked “She’ll just find it cute!”
Twilight trotted over to her charge and gave him a hug “I would never do that...mostly because your right”. Finishing up the hug, she turned to her student “Look, there's no harm done. Yes, it’s a bit confusing why you keep teleporting custard into the castle, but surely it's an improvement from teleporting yourself to where custard?”
“Is it?”
“It is”
“Well, it means I’m having to do less bathing than before, as only a fraction of the time I’m in the same room as it!” Starlight mused.
“Where does it all come from anyway?”Spike pondered
Starlight shrugged her shoulders “I’ve not been able to find out...I’ll guess we’ll never know.”
(Meanwhile, in an alternate dimension, the management of Ambrosia can’t work out why so much stock is going missing…)
Starlight walked into the main hall of the council of friendship and saw parchment spread all over the Cutie Map. Twilight was excitedly flittering around it, scribbling notes all over the place.
“Er Princess Twilight, what are you doing?”
Twilight beamed a massive smile “Starlight, I thought perhaps if we take this from a purely scientific perspective, we can figure out what's happening with your magic. I’m currently trying to work out if there is any sort of pattern in terms of timing, location, amount or anything
The two worked for a few hours, mapping the various data points and discussing various theories relating to carbohydronamics and manadiary manipulation. Pausing for a quick snack break, they looked at the results.
“It looks like...its completely random.” Twilight sighed in defeat
Starlight’s ears fell “Well, that was a waste of time.”
“Not quite...we’re ruling things out, and as Sher-lock Holmes says “Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth”
Starlight’s horn began to glow. “No, no no no...it’s happening again.”
The pair of ponies started running around the castle, trying to find if and where the desert would have materialised. They turned a corner to find Spike covered head to toe in custard, with a towel wrapped around his waist. “I was having a shower…it’s in the plumbing.”
“I’ll call Fancy Faucet, hopefully he can help flush out the castle’s system”
The best friends were all putting the finishing touches to the manes and outfits. Whilst everypony else was excited and looking forwards to the evening, Starlight looked more stressed than anypony had ever seen her, which for a time-traveling maniac who created alternate timelines including one where all life had been destroyed, was saying something.
“You really think I should be here...I mean, with my problem?” Starlight fretted as Fluttershy was helping style her mane. She found a comforting hoof on her shoulder.
“Relax. The Great and Powerful Trixie is here for you.” Starlights friend comforted her.
Rarity put down her makeup brush “Besides, it’s the Ponyville Days Grand Gala, and you’re the hosting princesses prized pupil...it would be rude not to attend especially with the Royal Sisters in attendance”
“But what if I ruin the evening?”
Rarity ‘pished’ for a few moments “Things happen. I mean, Sweetie Belle has ruined a whole bunch of my things and whilst I might get a little annoyed at the time, it soon passes.”
“And with your best friend…” Trixie shot a quick smug look at Twilight”..by your side nothing will go wrong!”
“We’ll see” Starlight whispered under her breath.
Soon the gala began and entering the main hall Starlight was glad to find it dessert free. As the evening wore on, Starlight seemed to relax and enjoy the pony watching. Princess Twilight was still fawning over Princess Celestia who was desperately trying to find reasons to move, Spike was following Rarity round like a lovesick puppy, whilst Rainbow Dash and Princess Luna seemed to be setting themselves up for a cider drinking contest.
Princess Celestia had managed to escape Twilight's attention for a few moments and was enjoying catching up with Mrs Cake and the stories of her unusual twins. Suddenly, a large yellow drop fell on the alicorns nose, followed by another on her dress.
“Discord!” Princess Celestia yelled. The draconequus looked over from where he was chatting to Fluttershy and then noticed the yellow rain which had started to fall over the room.
“It’s not me!” Discord proclaimed before turning to his companion “Honest!”
Princess Celestia looked over with suspicion, but Starlight Glimmer stepped forwards “He’s right, it’s me!”
“You, Starlight Glimmer?”Princess Luna asked suspiciously.
“She doesn’t mean it.” Trixie rushed forwards “It’s magical accidents, she would never do something to spoil Princess Twilight’s evening. The Great and Powerful Trixie guarantees it.”
By now Discord had floated over to the group “I think somepony owes me an apology?” Discord turned to Princess Celestia “Although knowing you your rather enjoying it.”
“Huh?” Twilight looked at Discord.
The god of chaos sniggered, seeing Celestia’s eyes widen “Didn’t you know the Princess Cay-Cay likes it when things go a little cra-cra? Especially when it involves getting messy?”
Twilight pondered this for a moment as custard continued to fall on all of them “Well, you did seem to enjoy the gala when we disrupted it, and then after the whole Smooze thing...what's up with all that?”
A slight blush formed on Princess Celestia’s snow white fur and she quickly changed the subject “Discord, I apologise, although perhaps you could do something to stop this?”
Discord clicked his fingers and created umbrellas over the small group “Done.” He then slid up next to Celestia “Don’t worry, I’ll think of something for you to make it up to me.”
Celestia sighed and rolled her eyes “It’s going to involve custard pies to the face isn’t, probably during my next court no doubt?” and was meet by a smug nod from the god of chaos.
“But what are we going to do about all of this?”Starlight asked as the rain continued to pour.
“Oh that’s easy!” Pinkie appeared out of nowhere “Custard-ball fight!”
