Prologue
Ah, hello there, I almost didn’t notice you. I am known by many names throughout the multiverse, however the most commonly known one is The Merchant. I am responsible for sending people from their normal world to the realm of wonder and awe. These people are known as displaced, however what most others do not know, is that there is a specific process that I must go through when choosing a person to turn into a displaced. First, it depends on the needs of the worlds that a displaced might be sent to. Too crazy, and they may lose their sanity, too lenient then they may become soft, too much violence then they may lose their lives. There is always a perfect world out there for each individual person or group of people. I choose each candidate carefully after watching them for a short period of time to gauge just how well their skills may work in a specific world. For example, someone who is quick to anger may be better off in a world that has been ravaged by war, or they could help to better a world that knows almost nothing about violence.
The next step in the process, is what I would turn a displaced into. In about 95% of the worlds I send displaced to, the displaced would need some form of enhancement to allow them to survive in their new environment. If I were to send say a human to a world with poison gas or below zero temperatures, then I would also need to make sure they have the ability to survive in their new environment. Usually, I pick cosplayers from conventions across the globe whether it’s comic-con, brony-con or anime-con. I usually come across plenty of diversity in these places, giving myself more choices of people without having to do anything more than giving their costumes a more “realistic” look to them. If i need, say, a person with magical talents that have never been seen before, then I might pick a cosplayer dressed as Ainz from Overlord or a Leefa from SAO.
Lastly, I must deal with a way to return the cosplayer home, or leaving them in their new world if they wish to stay. For some, it is a simple decision and they were deposited in a world that they had wish to go ever since they were small such as middle earth or Asgard. For others, they may not have a choice, and would die if they return to the world they came from due to a terminal illness or fatal wound. Some are torn between the new friends that they have made in their new world and their home, leaving them with a difficult decision. Then there are the people who wish to return home as soon as possible, sometimes because of family and sometimes because they prefer what they know to what they don’t know.
